Yup, that’s the one, Jibiti. It says on there ‘import’, so I’m assuming it’s just the same soundtrack but a different front cover for Europe or the UK instead. Seems a lot more expensive, though!
lizardgirl,
Did you get the soundtrack in a physical store, or online?
I thought the white cover was only for France, but maybe it’s for all of Europe.
Other than the cover, is the booklet and CD the same as the US CD? Is it in English or French?
The CD itself in the US version is almost all white, with just “Wall-E” and a little silver-color robot logo and some small misc printing on the top part, but most of it is just plain white. The booklet in the US version starts with a forward by Stanton, then lists the tracks, then production credits, then the orchestra personnel listed by sections, followed by the song lyrics, and a Special Thanks page (with lots of pages of Wall-E pictures inbetween).
As far as the price… maybe they figured, hey, it’s Europe (Continental & UK), the pound and the Euro are strong, they can afford paying twice as much as us poor Yanks If it makes you feel better, I bought something small from the UK over the net (something that used to be $15 here but none of the shops here have them anymore) and it wound up being US$55 before shipping because of the exchange rate. Everyone at work is joking that they want to be paid in Euros now (let alone pounds)…
theowne:
I know I shouldn’t say this, but while I’ve listened to the song again on the CD, during the three times I’ve seen the movie, I’ve paid more attention to that beautiful closing credit artwork than the lyrics…
miafka- I actually bought it in a physical store. I think the booklet is the same, and the CD is white and is as you described it. And so is the booklet, with everything written in English (believe you me, I would’ve returned it and complained if it was in French! )
So, basically, it’s exactly the same as the brown version but with a white front cover instead. Perhaps it is a European release or something.
Well, I paid £12.95, which is probably about $26- still a fair amount cheaper than the one on Amazon! Meh, everything’s expensive here anyway. With cinema tickets at £5.20 a pop, so around $11, I can barely afford to see WALL-E again, and that’s at the student rate, too!
Wow! Thats shockingly high! Especially for a student discount
Yeah, my mum had to pay £6.10- about $14? Ish?
But anyway, I’m going off-topic.
I’ve listened to the soundtrack about five or six times now, straight through, and I have to say that aside from perhaps Monsters, Inc.'s soundtrack, the WALL-E soundtrack has to be my favourite of any Pixar movie. The combination of some real classics with modern, space-like music just works so well. And I love hearing M-O woahing at the beginning of his track.
Yes, prices of things here are insane. It’s all about tax. I swear one day we are going to have to pay a tax on being taxed.
on topic:
Beautiful soundtrack. My favourites are “foreign contaminant”, “first date”, “72 degrees and sunny” and “down to earth”.
correct me if im wrong, but isnt eve just a shorter version of define dancing?
both of them are two of my favorites btw
It is. Composed by the same guys too.
“Define Dancing” is the longer version, but there are slight differences
Something bugged me about the OST and I finally realized what it was. Shouldn’t Repair Ward be later in the track listing? I’ve moved it to after Septuacentennial in iTunes, which seems to be a proper place for it.
Yes, I’m kinda OCD about this. After the Cars soundtrack I spent a long time re-arranging the tracks in chronological order as well
I think your right. Hmmm I’ll have to do that and see how the flow is. Thanks!
As of the date that I write this, I’ve only seen WALL•E once, and it all was a bit of an info overload so it’s hard to remember everything… but so far my favourite pieces of music are…
[spoil]- When WALL•E is going through space (when he first enters space as a stowaway on the Starliner Axiom (?))[/spoil]
[spoil]- When the Axiom “parks”.[/spoil]
[spoil]- The holding hands recurring theme.[/spoil]
[spoil]- Just that eerie music that is present for the first 10 mins of the film. Combined with the desolateness of the environment, and state of the Earth, gave me goosebumps.[/spoil]
- Oh, and “Put on Your Sunday Clothes”, my new favourite song. <3
I enjoyed this music a lot more than the Finding Nemo and can’t wait to buy the soundtrack. =)
miafka - Did you have to record/play “Also Sprach Zarathustra”? Or was that from a music library?

Wow, what a great question! To answer it… yes, we did record it ourselves. We recorded both Ricard Strauss’ “Also Sprach” as well as well as Johann Strauss’ “Blue Danube” (which you hear elsewhere in the film). Only a little bit of each was needed for the scenes, so we played them for a while until they stopped us after getting what they needed. Since they were basically source cues, we recorded both “wild” (without click-track) like a normal orchestra would, with Thomas Newman conducting from the podium.
I suppose it’s a good thing for us all that “2001” didn’t use Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra…
just thought i might let the aussies know, the soundtrack is now available here. it came out on the 30th august and the cover looks like this:
and here’s where i found out about this (sanity…good store):

the cover is bad ass. it is resembling recycled paper. it should really be made out of recycled paper. I think it would show some backbone.
I see the wall e future coming true in the …future.
too many futures.
I’m thoroughly convinced that I wouldn’t have liked this film (WALL•E) half as much as I did had it not been for its entrancing, melodious, and breath-taking score. For me, it’s what made the production all the more evocative – I’ve never tasted such brilliance in a simple tune before…
My deepest compliments to you, your fellow musicians, and Thomas Newman, miafka. I extend my hand in gratitude to all of you for making this soundtrack what it is: nothing less than a masterpiece.
(As of late, I have been listening to the WALL•E soundtrack on YouTube, but only because I am low on funds at the present time. When I begin to receive a steady, sufficient income, I shall not hesitate to purchase the aforementioned CD. It’s worth the $20.00.)

Thanks for the explanation, miafka. It did sound like it was a fresh recording, and I thought it would be new since Pixar stresses about the details. I don’t actually remember “Blue Danube”, but I’ll keep an ear out for it. I have to admit that one of the moments in the film that made me cringe was the use of “Also” since the 2001 reference has been done so many times before, even in another Pixar film, Toy Story 2. Would have been more original for them to use a Thomas Newman piece that sounds similar (but not a parody) of “Also.”
BOOYAH! We got the good cover! Yeah! IMO, Sanity is overpriced, give me JB-HIFI anyday. Thanks for that, Nathan! Wait, $25 isn’t that bad… As much as I didn’t like the US cover in the beginning, I still want to purchase it if only for the unique packaging.
Mitch - Yeah, part of what made WALL•E have a big impact on me, especially in the introductory scene after “Put on Your Sunday Clothes”, was the haunting music. I really hope this gets a nom for Best Score. If it doesn’t, I think I’ll cry.
rachel - Oh, gosh, that ominous music… That was one of those portentous tunes which transported me back in time to when I had a… nightmare of some sort. It was more evocative than anything.
I admire Pixar for taking that leap and not only starting the film off with such a degrading aura, but choosing to tell such a tale as WALL•E in the first place. Their boldness is to be respected, in my opinion.
And yes, I whole-heartedly agree. Everyone knows that the Oscars are rigged, but hopefully they’ll be rigged in such a way so that WALL•E gets nominated for Best Score, if it doesn’t win the Oscar for it.

Any guess as to what Horizons 12.2 refers to, miafka? (yeah, it’s a long shot but I’m dying to know.)
I believe you can hear Blue Danube (An der schönen blauen Donau) when the Captain is woken by Auto and fetches a cup of coffee.
Yes indeedy, that’s exactly when Blue Danube is played.
