WALL•E sucks- Really?

Well, I can certainly see it in that aspect MissCarrera. One-liners, well written dialogue and voice acting are certainly a key staple in any PIXAR film, and especially in a visual medium like animation a good voice cast helps bridge the suspension of disbelief for the audience. And with any key factor, some people feel its more necessary than others.

What I can’t understand though is that how either because of WALL-E’s non contemporary language, lack of human characters, and dystopian nature of the film it can be labeled as “Pixar’s Worst”, “unwatchable”, or even “a good half-film” (what does that even mean??). Yes give and take people’s differing opinions but seriously, the worst PIXAR film? I like to think with all of the non contemporary factors WALL-E attempted, it just makes the film stand out more and becomes a relatively poetic tribute to PIXAR’s desire to take new risks.

And at any rate, I much much much prefer that PIXAR didn’t have WALL•E conversing in concrete sentences for the entire film.

Because they didn’t want to put any dialogue in it, they had to take more effort into putting non-verbal communication and sounds, which really makes a great substitute for the lack of dialogue because you are still able to tell a character’s physical and internal shape and system. That’s really how they monitor the whole ‘lack of dialogue’ issue, is making a whole cornucopia of sounds and pantomime animation to really tell a character from the outside and inside without the use of dialogue, and i’m just glad that Pixar was able to do it so gracefully!

I’m glad you can see my opinion. However, I don’t think there are as many people who hate Wall-E as you perceive. It seems like it is everybody’s favourite around here and outside of the site too. My favourite movie is Cars…do you know how many people think that is Pixar’s worst. I’ll tell you…a lot.

I know, it’s just I tend to get rather defensive when people start hating on not only one of my favorite PIXAR films but also one of my favorite films.

And for the record, I actually enjoyed Cars although I’m looking more forward to Cars 2.

Really? Well, i’m not doubting you and I have no intention of coming across as rude, but WALL-E always seems to be a “marmite” film when I discuss it with others; people seem to love it or hate it. And I’ve never come across as somebody who hated Cars, either. But, I guess it’s each to their own experiences!

I think for most other people, Cars is simply a lukewarm film. It wasn’t necessarily a bad film, but it wasn’t one of PIXAR’s best either. For the Most part Cars was just sort of…there, it didn’t really take anything away from PIXAR’s legacy but it didnt add anything to it either. It was just an ok film.

However this is not a Cars thread, so probably want to get back to WALL•E.

Well, I can deifinetly understand getting defensive over your favourite Pixar film. I am the exact same way. So whenever I make a comment about a movie that isn’t necessarily good I try to do it in a polite and respectful way…unlike some people. (Nobody on this forum but I’m sure we all know one or another).

Yeah, it’s understandable. And people who are downright rude just annoy me.

Hahahah oh yeah. I am normally a pretty passive person but when somebody is being flat-out rude that’s when I start getting steamed. :smiling_imp:

Saaaame, I mean, each to their own, but some are so angry about it! Agghh!

I know! Some are just so inconsiderate about it and sometimes they purposely post it with intentions of getting drama and anger to rise. Honestly, just keep it to yourself. o_0

I enjoyed Cars as well, still, not my most favorite from Pixar (Wall-E obviously), but it is one of the tops i would put in Pixar’s line of work. BUT BACK TO WALL-E.

Unless someone has something specific about the dialogue they dislike, i find that criticizing dialogue is one of the lowest of the low criticisms. You can make magic with no voice if you put your mind to it!

Just take a look at some of PIXAR’s short films too. No one can debate something like Geri’s Game, Presto or Lifted weren’t utterly fantastic at storytelling.

Exactly! You don’t need dialogue to tell a story, especially amongst children, who are, or at least should be, visual beings who take in what they see rather than what they hear.

I can’t believe the complaints some people spit out.

Oh…I’m sorry, I didn’t know you felt that way.

probably my favorite thing about the film. you don’t have to hear it because you can see it and feel it without any words and just…wow. it’s really, really lovely.

I’m sorry you feel that I dislike your criticism and find you a bad critic, but i have this same kind of feeling for music, most music in some cases, where instrumental sometimes prevails over vocal songs.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying…

What i’m trying to say is, i’m not going to let your criticism get in the way of our friendship!
