WALL-E's Antagonist?

I know… But I’m not saying… :sunglasses:

Maybe Sigourney Weaver with a pumpgun? That would be cool…sort of…

Hold on, I’m confused. What is this whole “Sigourney Weaver robot” thing and “Directive A113”? Is this directive EVE’s goal for for finding the last plant? Or is this “Directive A113” an evil robot?

As you know Sigourney Weaver is the Axiom’s Main Computer. Maybe she’s gone crazy or somekind of “last line of defense system” for BnL. Don’t know…

[spoil]I think that Directive A113 is somekind of routine programming of AUTO if something goes wrong (for BnL). He has to ensure that things stay as they are. The humans aren’t allowed to get back to Earth under any circumstances. Maybee Directive A-113 means “kill all humans” (that would be a bit dark) or “arrest the Captain, destroy every evidence and do things the BnL way”.[/spoil]

[spoil]So this directive could have been when Auto tried to get rid of the last plant by giving it to that GO-4 robot and putting it in the self-destructing escape pod.[/spoil]

Though I haven’t followed WALL-E religiously as I have recently, didn’t even know Auto’s name…

[spoil] I SO too had the thought that Auto would be a Hal! When you think about it, Pixar is good at making jokes relating to well known things (take Helen’s mirror reaction in the Incredibles, I think it was something about after-pregnant effects or something). And seeing as how Space Odessy had made an impact to have Hal parodied allot, Pixar would be clever in putting a little Hal into Auto (that IS the red-eyed computer that shows before the human say’s “Earth’s in trouble” right?)[/spoil]

Buy N Large is the basic villain, from what I can tell by reading the book. And I think A-113 is Auto’s mission to never let the humans return home.

Now that I’ve seen it, I don’t think there is a true antagonist.
Buy n Large was just trying to make a perfect world, but it had bad effects and it wasn’t on purpose.
Shelby Forthright was a man with good intentions. He wanted people to be happy, but sometimes he didn’t know what he was doing.
Auto was just following orders. He did what he was told to do. He never did anything bad outside his programming.
But I do think that GO-4 might have been evil. He tries to dispose of the plant and does not always follow orders.

[spoil]There is no real antagonist in WALL•E, but I would say that AUTO and GO•4 come very close, since AUTO was disloyal to Captain.[/spoil]

possible spoiler

Sorry Axiom, I don’t think so. No, there was clearly a satirical bent in the movie, and I know Pixar fully expects us to root against them all, the antagonist threesome (I don’t trust Shelby Forthright, do you?). Even in real life I have an anti-McDonalds/Walmart/mega-CEO and central power thing, so it was easy for me to grasp!
