There are so many Teddy bears out there, your bound to find a lots-o them (excuse the pun) look similar.
I don’t see a super resemblance, but there are some traits that look similar.
But oh man, Bubba! My grandma had two of those at her house! Boy, was that a long time ago . . .
There are a lot of Teddy Bears out there, and I’m pretty sure Lotso started as a normal Teddy bear, and gradually became the pink [spoil]monster[/spoil] we know today. I personally think Care Bears might be an influence (they were also made at about the same time).
I agree with Dinoco that the Care Bears were an influence. There’s some storyboard art where Lotso looks a lot like Tenderheart Bear.
Yeah, I’m not really seeing it.
I agree with Kyle.
I wouldn’t say “based off of,” but rather partly inspired by. Obviously the features of Bubba are there…really big hands/feet/nose and general shape. His coloring is taken from the Care Bears. The strawberry scent is from Strawberry Shortcake. He’s more of a mash-up of all of these elements.
Bubba was a talking bear and was supposed to be a trucker (he spoke with a heavy accent). Check out the YouTube video: youtube.com/watch?v=fSRQ2RGmDKA
In Toy Box mode on the Toy Story 3 video game they have Lotso in an enchanted fairy tale-like forest, so that gave me the assumption that as a toy he would be partly based off of Care Bears (or some similar bear franchise).
I wonder if there are other bears in Lotso’s line. For example, a purple bear that smells like grapes? Lots-o-Huggin’ Bears in various colors/scents would be insane!
I’d like a yellow one that smells like bananas, but I suppose that would make more sense for a monkey than a bear. I can see how Lotso’s toyline could work that way though [spoil]but then it would make you wonder why he would be so upset about Daisy buying another version of him if he was like Care Bears and had other bear friends in his toyline. Would it have been any different if it were a purple bear instead of the exact same one as him?[/spoil]
Yeah I remember Bubba as being a trucker. I thought it went along with Ned Beatty’s accent. Maybe not as strong, but a similar vibe; at least to me.
I had wanted a Bubba, but thought he’d talk at night and wake me up. I was a strange kid -Omar
