Well It's True: Some People Actually Didn't Like Ratatouille

Our local newspaper’s critic actually specifically mentioned Ego’s bit, going so far as to say that Bird was anticipating poor reviews and using that to preemptively lash out at critics. Which is complete crap, I got the sense that the view of critics that that gave was in fact the very opposite, that it saw them as admirable and underappreciated. I try to steer clear of poor reviews, especially before I see the film, but I generally read our local review, whether good or bad, after seeing the film and then comparing it with my own opinions. I don’t want to feel like I’m ignoring the other side of the issue and only reading what I want to hear, and every so often there will be a good point that makes me think, but no matter how negative reviews I read, I always have my mental rebuttals and my view of the film remains more or less untainted.

As said, opinions are just that, and are valuable things, and we shouldn’t attack people for having them as long as they truly are what that person feels.

I totally agree that Anton Ego said it best (and incidentally that speech was one of my fav parts of the film). To quote author Meg Cabot’s grandma, “You’re not a $100 bill. Not everyone is going to like you”. I remember getting angry at the poor Cars reviews last year, thinking that the critics just didnt get it. And there are a lot of people who think animated=comedic. In my city there are 2 major newspapers, one critic loved Ratatouille, the other thought it was average at best. (of course this was the same critic who gave Nemo a B- when every other critic I read was giving it an A) So you gotta take these reviews with a grain of salt sometimes. It’s more important that you see it for yourself and form your own opinion, which is probably the one that matters most.

I think it’s good to Okish…It was Ok.

Well , like my stepdad always says , “not everybody can have good taste .”

Seriously , there are some people in the world who say bad things about a movie because they think too many people like it , i just hope that’s not why they said it …

lennonluvr9 : I know what you mean . This one critic gave Cars two stars , but I guess she or he came to their senses this year , since they gave Ratatouille 4 stars …

Well, in my opinion, Ratatouille was a big improvement on Cars, so I can see where most critics are coming from… But for any of them to say they didn’t enjoy Ratatouille, or they wouldn’t even recommend the movie, well, that’s just a downright lie for attention.

gottalovepixar and rachel - Heh. I agree with both of you on this…
