Man am I late to the game on this one!

Anyway, since the films been on DVD and Blu Ray for several months now, I think website policy is that I don’t have to worry about those annoying spoiler tags anymore and can speak freely about plot points without having to hide them covertly.

So basically, was anyone else surprised Lotso didn’t press the Emergency Stop button? For me, even though I knew he was a villain that one scene was the biggest turning point in Lotso’s morality of no return. Even other PIXAR villains like Stinky Pete or Randall I can honestly imagine would’ve stopped the incinerator, considering that the heroes literally risked their own lives to save them moments before. That one scene not only cemented Lotso as a Complete Monster but also as the most evil PIXAR villain.

No, because the Official Movie Magazine’s comic adaption spoiled it for me.

That’s true, I guess I should be a little more specific about my choice too though.

See ever since November when the preshow Toy Story 3 Lego sets got released, I always knew that the climax would be at the Dump, they would get saved by The Claw, and that Lotso was partially responsible. What I didn’t predict was that literally minutes earlier, Buzz and Woody would’ve headed back to rescue Lotso, thus making him in debt to Woody and Buzz. And by having him completely blow it off like nothing, that was what surprised me the most.

In the theater I was kind of thinking “Hmmmm…He might…?” but when he was just standing there doing nothing and the others were yelling at him to push the button, I was thinking “Nope. Evil bear.” So I wasn’t really surprised.

I was surprised.

My 5-year-old daughter was very upset about it. I think she was traumatized. lol. After seeing that she begged and begged us for a Lotso doll. We were surprised she’d want him. She said she wants one so that she can love him so much that he will be happy and next time he has the chance he will press the button. We bought him for her and he is everything to her. She takes him everywhere (except school). She took him to Disney World with us to every park and on every ride. She sleeps with him every day. She is convinced that if the situation arises again, he will press the button.

My only problem with the ending is that Lotso left the garbage dump without seeing that the other toys survived. It would have been great for him to see them walking out of the garbage dump just as he was driven away.

Well, I expected someone to turn off the belt since the button was revealed, and when Woody helped Lotso to climb up, I thought he should do it… until he stood there just looking at others. So - a little surprised, yes.

I also wondered why Woody didn’t climb up behind him as soon as he pushed him up.

Because he couldn’t do it, at least that’s how it seems. The conveyor belt took him away right after he pushed Lotso. And it looks like Woody’s legs get stuck in garbage more than Lotso’s, so he couldn’t jump that high.

Let me just say that Lotso’s character was played out perfectly during the movie. By that, I mean that every move of his was unpredictable after his true nature was revealed. In the beginning, he was so nice that I almost disregarded the blatant rumors of him being the villian. The way it was revealed was still a surprise, nonetheless. After Woody and Buzz saved him, I was actually rooting for him making a comeback as a hero. Which, I got kinda iffy as he hesitated, but once his expression changed, you knew he was a villian beyond the point of no return.

Lotso not pushing the button surprised me very much. I thought he would want to redeem himself and go ahead and do it. This scene really showed me how heartless he was, even as a stuffed pink bear. It made me cry the first time I saw the movie, also because of the looks on Andy’s toys face when he said “Where’s your owner now, Sheriff?” and walked off.

This scene, and the entire incinerator scene, made me surprised as well because I thought, in this being a Disney Movie, that the bad guy might redeem himself. But I was happy when the toys ended up surviving, thanks to the aliens, :astonished: and that Lotso got the terrible fate of being tied to a garbage truck.

YES! I was shocked, I tell you, shocked! I really really really thought Lotso would redeem himself - because he was THE new meet-n-greet character at Walt Disney World! They had the Sunnyside set where you could meet him and give him a big hug and get your picture taken… I knew he was supposed to be the “villain,” but the way they were presenting him at WDW, as this big cuddly character, I thought, “OK, yeah, he’s the bad guy, but he’s going to redeem himself in the end…”

Yeah I was pretty suprised.
I was thinking he would help out since Woody risked everything to save him. Plus, Lotso’s attitude made me think he had changed…but I was wrong…

Good point karly! Lotso in Disney World was big and cuddly and nice.

I was really surprised but it really did give us the unexpected… made for a good movie. Although maybe not for a younger audience.

Not sure if I was surprised or not.
Mostly I was stunned at how Woody and the others were going to get out of the situation with the smelter. Have to admit, Pixar did fantastic with that, bringing the classic “THE CLAWwwww” moment. It was truely a great set-up.

Back to Lotso…
Personally I DO feel bad for the guy. Not so much as with Randall, but at least equal to Syn…I mean…Buddy Pine. I mean the guy was basically forgotten and replaced. I mean most people would think about it in the HUMAN sense “aww she loved that pink bear…don’t worry hunny I’ll get her a new one just like it”. But in the TOY sense, it was a serious blow, like a best friend after a long time betraying you (but not intentionally). And that’s AFTER taking a journey (who knows how long) to get BACK to them.
However…Chuckles was right…she replaced LOTSO not him or Big Baby. But like Chuckles stated…something “snapped” in him. He was no longer the fixed “Lotso” (for reference, take Buzz toys which started out as “space rangers”, but in the case of our Buzz…realize they are in fact a toy and not what they are designed for) type, but now bitter and manipulative (sorta like Waternoose)

looks up Oh…sorry…getting a bit too explainable here…felt to express my opinion of Lotso first…

Anyways…I’m unsure what I felt, if he was going to press the switch or not. To me, it felt like he was GOING to when he noticed it. I mean afterall…why point it out? Why not climb up himself and leave them to rot? Ok sure, he most likely needed Woody or somebody’s help to push him upward…

But still the look on Lotso’s face…as he was climbing…it was one of determination. He was looking upward, AT the switch, not down to make sure his footing was right, or smiling devilishly as he did so. And the first second or so of him starring after Woody and the others…by then you KNEW he wasn’t going to do it…but that look…
Lotso saw Woody and the others as what he was, a toy determined to be reunited with his owner, who had faith in them. And the dark part of Lotso convinced the other side, Lotso as he was before, that such faith lead to pain and anguish, and it aimed to make Woody and the others an example.

I was spoiled by Upcoming Pixar’s review of the film, which I read anyway, that Lotso wouldn’t redeem himself. I knew he was going to be a villain from early rumors to the LEGO sets being revealed.

Ever since I found out he was a villain, I was anxious at midnight June 18th to see when he’d finally show his darker colors. The lighting in the closet as Lotso’s smile faded, and the appropriately darkening music… it was making my heart pound. “This is it… he’s a villain”.

I was… well, I don’t know if I was surprised if he didn’t push the button. On one hand, he’s already proven to be bitter, abusive, and violent (both physically and emotionally). So, yes and no. I was not surprised he was so evil that he didn’t push the button. I still felt surprised, however, simply because I was so into the film, and it just shocked me anyway, with the music, the dire situation, and horror of realizing, “How the HELL are they getting out of this one?!?”

I didn’t really expect it to go one way or the other. So, I was surprised.

I was very surprised. I remember after seeing the movie, my dad was like, “Old Lotso was a bad-***, wasn’t he?” and I was like, “Yeah…”

I really thought he wouldn’t, then I thought he would. I was surprised, because i couldn’t decide.

There were several trigger points, times where the situation with the TS gang saving Lotso a couple times could have turned him to change to push the button. I WAS surprised at the end he did not change but given the character development, not totally unexpected. The claw was a genius moment harking back to the first movie, Pixar showed just how incredible they are at story writing with this movie.

As for the Pixar Lotso at WDW, it is obvious the bad Lotso is still tied to a garbage truck some where out there. The greeting Lotso at WDW is another off the shelf bear that is obviously good hearted.

I wasn’t suprised, he reminded me too much of Stinky Pete, I had a feeling from the beginning he’d stay a bad egg.
