What could've Andy said about Bo to Bonnie?

During his big monologue on the toys he kept, I kept thinking what Andy could’ve said to Bonnie regarding Bo Peep. There are a few reasons why he said nothing-

  1. It’s technically Molly’s toy

  2. It’s a porcelain figure, not a toy technically

  3. people get sick of me using the word technically. :stuck_out_tongue:

  4. Bonnie might not have cared for a figure like Bo Peep

However-

  1. Mrs Potato Head was also technically Molly’s toy but Andy kept that.

  2. Bo Peep was clearly the heroine in Andy’s play scenarios- the “damsel in distress” whom Woody would save

But the only problem I came up with personally is that everything Andy could’ve said regarding Bo ties in Woody, which would ruin the speech he gives on why Woody is his favorite toy, his buddy, his pal –

Something along the lines of, “This is Bo, she’s always losing her sheep. Baaa. But Woody – manages to find them–” Ok even now its not really working unless I somehow substitute Buzz instead of Woody in the equation.

For that matter, I don’t see how Slinky as a toy is really that fun- now mind you, I absolutely love Jim Varney and Blake Clark for their acting abilities and voices, and Slink is an awesome character in of himself as a living toy, as are everyone else. I just didn’t see him as being a great toy to actually play with.

I was really talking about Bo. When I wrote “Belonging”, I tried to naturally put Bo into the sequence of events and think about how Bonnie might actually play with a figure like Bo.

Any thoughts, suggestions, hate mail? :stuck_out_tongue: -Omar

Well, I guess he could have said something along the lines of, “This is Bo. She was Molly’s toy, but she’s a nice Damsel in distress.” But I think it’s better that they didn’t keep her. It would have messed with the plot, and I don’t like her.

You an interesting point there, I never thought of that but it’s very true!

I think Virginia summed it up nicely, he would say she’s the damsal in distress or something along those lines.

There’s basically nothing good about Bo for Andy to say to Bonnie. Andy plays her as a damsel in distress, but that’s boring. I think Bonnie would make her something else, but it’d still be weird for Andy to give her this lamp.

Face it, Bo peep is boring. That why she’s not in 3. The whole point is, Andy kept the toys he kept because he was attached to them. Andy had little to no attachment to Bo peep, and neither did Molly.

And the comparison to slinky, of course slinky is more fun! Bo peep is glass and has no articulation, slinky is a lot more interesting. Plus the whole “built in force field” thing is genius.

It´s reall easy to talk about she. If they didn´t put her in the movie was because they didnt want Maybe because she was procelain, but ham never was supose to be plastic in the first movie… so…

“She is Bo, a damsel who is always getting in trouble for taking care of his sheep. It is sweet, tender and delicate but never leave their friends if they are endangered.”

Also some procelain dolls survives for decades or centuries…

Sumori, thank you so very much.

I know I’m in the minority of people who actually like Bo as a character. I really do like her a lot, because she gives Woody someone to love and who in of herself is pretty darn lovable.

Hamm is pretty sturdy for a porcelain piggy bank, and in TS3, we see Andy has the foresight to place his pillow on the floor to save Hamm from breaking.

I always thought that Bo Peep could’ve been the orphans’ teacher or ward and another person in the train that was to go down in Andy’s play scenario. I keep remembering the scene from Back to the Future 3 where Doc and Clara are on the train during the movie’s climax. But I digress.

I really love what Sumori said about Bo, and what Virginia said too. Granted, even if Bo was Andy’s damsel in distress, Bonnie didn’t have to necessarily play with Bo in that manner. The lamp itself could’ve been broken years ago and Andy kept the figures of Bo and the sheep- I mean, he did use them later for his play scenarios as well, regardless of the lamp being there or not.

I personally found Slinky as a boring toy- that’s my opinion. Some of us feel that Bo is a boring toy, that’s their opinion. We’re all certainly entitled to our opinion and I didn’t expect anyone to agree with me, but gosh darn it, it sure is nice when some people do feel the same way I do and vice versa. -Omar

I always thought Bo peep wasnt in toy story 3 coz she can’t move fast. well i mean she is not the character that showed lots of movement.

You see she moves slow in toy story 1

and she didnt go out to rescue woody in toy story 2. she was usually the one who gets saved. not who goes out to save someone…

Mrs. p wasn’t also in the woody searching team in toy story 2, but however mr.p was in the team and as we can see, he wasnt that slow to run or walk. as mrs.p is techinically female version of mr. p, mayb thats why she was in toy story 3… you see all the andy’s toys in toy story at the scene who wanted to escape sunnyside isnt as slow as bo peep either.

I dunno. its just me. its my interpretation.

Bo is as or faster than Hamm. In fact she has arms to cling to things or people, she does not need to be in a saucepan to escape the crusher. It also has a very versatile shepherd’s hook.

Her dress is flexible as it is made of fabric (seen in TS1 and TS2). The only problem he has are his sheep, as slow as Hamm, but with three heads with which to bite.

Recall that the aliens have less mobility than Bo. They can´t climb and need help to get to things, not to mention that they get stuck in the dumpster.

Of course, Bo would never have survived the Caterpillar Room, as Barbie was changed from room conveniently. Any teacher with half a brain would have gone to Bo from the box, maybe let her with the monkey (she could have seen everything from screens and eventually take over the ape).

Let’s face it the only reason that is not in the movie is because they forgot her or did not like the character. Perhaps Mattel did not want that the doll has been created to substitute Barbie share scenes with her.

They didn’t just “forget her”. Reasons Bo isn’t in the move according to Lee Unkrich:

"That was a very difficult decision to make. We wanted to show that time had passed in Andy’s room, and things had changed. We decided that most of Andy’s peripheral toys would be gone, since he was now 17 and wouldn’t realistically have all of his childhood toys. We also wanted to create an environment of danger – that time was short for the remaining toys, and that any of them might be next to go. We also thought it would be powerful to have one of the central, beloved toys be gone, and to be emblematic of the fact that as we live our lives, change happens and we sometimes lose people that we love.

Bo Peep as a toy was actually part of a nursery lamp. We figured that lamp wouldn’t be around any more, so we decided to make Bo Peep the main toy that was no longer around. We also felt her absence would give Woody a deep feeling of loss, since she was the love of his life. We decided that any of the toys that were not part of the core gang of toys (Woody, Buzz, Potato Heads, etc.) would be unfortunately left behind. Andy is now 17, and it just didn’t seem realistic that all the toys would still be around. It was hard for us to say goodbye to many of the characters, but we felt it was the right thing to do for the story that we were telling."

“We made this decision to not have Bo Peep in the movie, because we took a main character and had her be gone and kind of emblematic of the fact that times have changed and they don’t have everyone in their lives that they used to, and it presents an aura of danger for the other toys — they can be out the door or donated or thrown away. But we also knew we wanted to open the film with that crazy kind of Western opening. And originally when we came out of the fantasy of the opening, we’d find ourselves in modern times with Andy grown up. At a certain point we realized that wasn’t quite the right way to go, and so we came up with this notion of the whole video montage of Andy kind of growing, so you could see the glory days of his time with the toys. But that decision didn’t come until later, and as a result we didn’t have any plans to resurrect Bo Peep and have her be a character in the film. So in retrospect — sorry, long answer — but if I could go back and redo the movie, I would have had Bo Peep as character in the opening and I think it would have made her absence moments later even more powerful.”

Got these from interviews found in a quick Google search, and are pasted directly from Lee’s answers.

I know i don’t comment a lot on here, but obviously i like bo peep and to have her out the movie really s .a realization of how things can change with in so little time, and reality that any of our favorite gang of toys could be separated at any given time

Still i think that Even though she was a core character and they wanted an emblematic affect, she was still Woody’s love interest and apart of the family of characters.Bo didn’t have the largest Role, but im sure if she was TS3 Andy could have had something to Bonnie to describe.I Bet if it was up to John Laseter and Joss Whedon who had did the story in 1st film, then she would have been in…but hey that’s just me!!

I think over the years that Molly broke Bo’s lamp or it just stopped working, but as Molly got older she used Bo peep and her sheep as “dolls” to play with, and just kept Bo all these years, that way it would have been easier to transition Bo’s donation with the rest of the toys to Sunnyside more smoothly without lugging that big lamp.or ei

Dude why are you being so negative towards the character,we don’t need the attitude much.what do you mean “Face it”?,no one disputed or even brought up anything about her being boring.you are right she doesn’t do much, but her personality is what makes her so likable, you may think she’s boring but for some reason i don’t and some others don’t.

btw people bo peep is NOT a glass doll, she is porcelian.two different things. and i don’t like how lee described bo,the whole “technically” crap doesn’t cut it. lee described bo like she was the actual lamp that lit up lol.she was a removable doll, figurine if you will.to me and most people bo was a toy because she was a porcelain doll.now true every toy is not made for play, and bo was obviously for display.but still lamp or not bo was a doll,so still she’s a toy.i’ve always seen bo and sheep as dolls that came with a lamp, kind of a gift set.but andy made her apart of his world as a toy,and might i add for a 5 year old kid he took great care of her.most children his age are super clumsy and would have probably broken her on accident.

We don’t need to argue. I personally wasn’t distressed by her absence. It made me a little happy. But that’s no reason to argue about her.
