Though, featuring a memorable villain played by Christopher Lee, this film is incredibly silly.
Wow, great series of Bond minimalist posters, SoA!
Wheredja get them? I think it would look great as a phone or tablet wallpaper without the white borders!
While you’re on Moonraker, one of my favourite scenes is of Bond fighting Jaws on the cable car going to the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio. Some trivia, courtesy of IMDB:
…
During the cable-car stunt high above Guanabara Bay, a real cliff-hanger moment occurred when stuntman Richard Graydon slipped and was hanging off for his dear life. The recce crew, including Ken Adam, were petrified while the camera was rolling and they were watching on from a vantage point.
The film was partly set in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil because Albert R. Broccoli wanted to film the magnificent Iguaçu Falls of Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, Brazil after a trip there.
Moonraker was called 007 Against The Death Rocket in Brazil, and was also the highest grossing Bond movie up until the release of GoldenEye.
…
And the double entendre at the end is one of the best in the series!
Thanks…
This film is my favourite from Moore’s. It is his most realistic one, though it still features the signature silliness and has a horrible score:
Ooo, i like that one! It reminds me of the macaw my Grandma use to have, Seymore.
Thanks ![]()
This one half tried to replicate the serious tone of the previous film, but failed miserably, even getting Bond in a clown suit. It’s also very boring. One of the worst entries:
A truly horrible film, specially because of the character of Mayday. Probably the worst in the series, though there are strong contenders,
Timothy Dalton is introduced to the franchise in a more serious film than those that preceded it, and I, for one, like. The sequel takes that style further, but this a very good film too.
One of my favourites in the canon, the second and last Dalton outing takes further the realistic and tough style of the previous film, creating a Craig-styled film years before Craig. Of course it was too much hard to swallow for the time, so it’s obvious why it got changed back to something more reminiscent of the Moore style in later years.
This film is very good, and made it look like the Brosnan series was going to be one of the best. But, it has the absolutely WORST music score from the series, which always detracts a lot from the overall experience.
The second Brosnan film starts the downfall of his period, despite having an interesting concept for the antagonists that was never fully realized. But at least this was the film that brought David Arnold to score the franchise, and he would do good things.
EJE: Your grandma had a blue-and-yellow macaw? Named Seymore? Awesome! My late grandma had mongrel dogs named Blackie and Chocolate Jim, hardly exotic stuff, and we were terrified of them as kids! ![]()
SoA: Hey, uh, about my question? Wheredja get ‘em?
I’m really enjoying this particular series of your wallpaper, maybe cos’ I’m a Bond fan too!
I really like the above - great reference to that cool stunt where Brosnan and Yeoh jump down the side of a skyscraper - I always loved that scene when I watched it as a teen, along with the remote-control driven car in the garage chase. Oh, and the rooftop motorcyle chase! Oh and the two of them bathing in public (with their clothes on). And that media villain who uses news to launch a global war.
Man, now I feel like watching TND again.
Oh, sorry. They are from a Bond Anniversary series of posters done by some graphic designers.
MGM made them remove them from their site, but I found these low resolution copies.
Do you have an online link to these copies, or you saved them locally to your hard disk?
I saved them in a PSD file as soon as I found them, so I didn’t keep the link.
I just did a quick search and found this: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv-movies/artists-design-bond-poster-day-23-films-article-1.1241514
You can most likely find all of them by typing the name of the film and “Herring & Haggis”. Or maybe their real names, “Maria Taylor and Clif Watson”
A wallpaper of Gollum that my boyfriend made for me for Valentine’s Day.
I don’t now if I like this film or not. It has a couple of good things, but in general, I think it bores me.
haha, how did he get the name Chocolate Jim?
Yep! But once my mother and uncle moved out of my grandparents house as adults, they gave Seymore away. Because he became bored and depressed and started plucking his feathers out, and needed a home with more stimulation.
