I’m not a huge fan, but that’s what I mean, it isn’t him. What he does is great, because he does it, but Pixar isn’t the studio for that IMO. But I bet if they tried to do something Tim Burton-y they’d succeed, of course.
Yeah, I’m definately sure they could, and I’d really like to see them try something a bit darker in the future. I bet it would turn out great
I actually came across a really neat film that was made by a student at CalArts that reminded me of a mix between a Tim Burton film and a Pixar one. It was very cool
You know, there’s rumors that WALL-E will be very dark, so there ya go!
WALL•E is Pixar, so I don’t think it will be “dark”.
Pixar’s never disappointed me before, and they never will. (that’s why they’ll never do any Tim Burton stuff )

It’s not my opinion, check out what the test audiences said: http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2008/01/29/toon-tuesday-how-pixar-fixed-finding-nemo.aspx
[spoil]Obesity[/spoil] is not a “dark” subject, if you know what I mean.
WALL•E’s going to be great.
I’d love to see Pixar to take on a more serious subject (I’m sure someone’s mentioned this, since I see we’re talking about Tim Burton. I just haven’t read all five pages yet). Something more adult-like. And not something in the R range. I just want to see what they could do with something that wasn’t an in your face child’s movie. All of their movies are targeted at all audiences, of course, but you can tell that they have huge child-like overtones.
If Pixar took on a more serious subject than previous films and downplayed the comedy and child-like style, they’d attract so many more fans. On top of what they already have, they’ll be on their way to taking over the world!
PS: I’ve also heard about Wall-E being a much darker movie. Reading that article, it seems peoples’ problems with the movie are about it being too depressing and in the way it depicts humans? That doesn’t seem like much to me.
Like many of you, I’d love to see a classic fantasy Pixar movie with dragons and everything. I’d totally nerd out over that.
In our society, it is very difficult to create a sympathetic character who is not a white American male. You may argue that Ratatouille took place in France, but did you notice that every character in that movie had a French accent except for Remy and Linguini? It would be more difficult to hold the audience’s attention if Remy had an accent.
I’d like to see Pixar make a movie with a black man as the main character. That would be a first for animated movies.
I would also like to see a Pixar movie with a woman as the main character. I’d also like to see one that has an equal amount of male and female characters. You know, like real life? Most animated movies are either overwhelmingly male, or they present a stereotypical view of women, such as the Disney princess movies. Pixar employees are supposed to love Miyazaki films, so they should know something about representing women in a movie, but I have disliked their portrayal of women in most of their films. They try to create a modern tough female character, and they usually fall short because their writing staff is 100% male.
My favorite American animated movie that portrays women as regular human beings is Lilo and Stitch. The girls in that movie aren’t princesses, and they aren’t ridiculous tomboys either. They’re just people. There needs to be more movies with women like this - especially children’s movies, because most children are introduced to concepts about their place in society with movies. Have you noticed how little girls always want to be like Dora the explorer, or one of the Disney princesses? Animated women are important to these little girls. The fact that animated movies are so male orientated can’t be good for their perception of their place in society.
Fantasy stuff just isn’t Pixar’s thing…now. I’m not into that sort of stuff, but if Pixar does it, I probably will be into it.
Fantasy stuff just isn’t Pixar’s thing
Are you sure not their thing? Because taling animals, inanimate objects and SUper Heros dwell along the lines of fantasy. BUt I think they can pull off a great medieval tale if given the right stuff.
I think A113 is sort of referring to the more traditional fantasy stuff, like the classic Disney films of Snow White or Cinderella, that kind of stuff.
If Pixar were to do the whole medieval thing, they’d really have to put their own twist in it or have a different sort of aspect to other movies that have come out based on the same sort of thing. The thing is, they’d always run the risk of being accused of copying Shrek, and all that sort of stuff is pretty done.
I remember seeing something on DeviantArt that was a poster of a fictitious Pixar movie about flowers. I personally would love to see Pixar do this, although the terms of mobility are veeeeeeeery limited… But I think if anyone can make the best of it, it’s Pixar.
CGI Clownfish - As far as the “flower” project you are referring to goes, I believe that it was PixarVixen who first conjured up the basic idea and plot-line to/for that fictional, Pixar-related film.

Kudos to PixarVixen!

Well, of course they could; they can do anything. But they just might get scolded for copying Shrek, even if the Pixar version is better (which it most certainly would be).
Nobody in their right mind would accuse Pixar of copying a Dreamworks movie.
Fantasy is one of those things that goes in and out of style. Right now fantasy is in style, and I think Pixar would rather try to create a fantasy movie when it’s out of style.
Nobody in their right mind would accuse Pixar of copying a Dreamworks movie.
Amen to that… I think everyone darn near forgot that Antz came out before A Bug’s Life, because I don’t recall it getting busted for “copying”. But I believe that’s because A Bug’s Life was a much better story, in my opinion.
I seriously think Dreamworks and Pixar have this thing going where it’s like: “Oh, a movie about fish? Let’s see who can make a wider-accepted movie!” At least that’s how the trend has looked for Antz/A Bug’s Life, Shrek/Monsters Inc., Shark Tale/Finding Nemo, and Flushed Away/Ratatouille. I think Dreamwork’s win of the Oscar over Monsters Inc is what set it off.
Nobody in their right mind would accuse Pixar of copying a Dreamworks movie.
100% agreed.
Problem is, the news media isn’t in their “right mind”.
Nobody in their right mind would accuse Pixar of copying a Dreamworks movie.
Actually, to be contrary, I think people would. They really would. I mean, most people who know something about the movie and animation business would know that Pixar produces films of better quality than those of Dreamworks. But a lot of people don’t know much about the different companies and who made what, so yep, even if Pixar made a fantasy film that was a hundred times better than Shrek, lots of people would be saying the phrase, ‘hey, isn’t that movie sort of like Shrek?’
I’ve just thought of the idea of Pixar doing a feature film biopic of one of the past U.S. presidents.
