In the audio commentary for TS3 (in the scene where Buzz is going to escape from the Caterpillar Room), Lee Unkrich said that originally Michael Arndt wanted Rex to say “What’s a transom, Buzz?”. Apparently, it was an uber-obscure reference to a movie that Arndt liked, but I think Lee should have included the line so that younger kids could understand what that word means. Heck, I was 22 when I first saw the film and even I didn’t know what it meant. What do you guys think?
I can remeber hearing that line in the commentary.
I don’t really think it needed to be explained verbally,as all the toys look up,and the camera then shows what a transom actually is.
It’s the thing above the door that Buzz goes through! I think that’s what it is, anyway. Ever since I heard the commentary, whenever I watch that scene, I can practically hear Rex “What’s a transit, Buzz?” Hee hee! Love that Rex…
That went over my head too.
If I’m right, the reference comes from a film called Drugstore Cowboy and is originally “What’s a transom, Bob?”
