What's next for Pete Docter?

Pete Docter directed Monsters, Inc. in 2001, and eight years later he returned to direct Up. Why so long? The only other things he did for Pixar in that time was additional voices, and the story for WALL-E. Do any of you know why he waited so long to do something? Was it because he was working on Up? (for eight years? I don’t think so! :stuck_out_tongue:  ) But anyways, do you think Pete Docter will direct another feature at Pixar or turn to Disney like Andrew Stanton?

Well, in between Monsters, Inc. and Up, Pete Docter was directing the English dub of Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle. So it’s not like he wasn’t busy. Also, Pixar General Manager Jim Morris has said that after Up, Pete Docter has another original idea and that he’s eyeing a Monsters, Inc. sequel.

That’s interesting how Pete Docter directed the English dub for Howl’s Moving Castle, martini833. :stuck_out_tongue: Also, I’m extremly exicted for an original Pete Docter movie! And I forgot about Monsters, Inc. 2. Maybe it won’t be so bad if they do the original voices. Oh, and one more thing. I guess Pete Docter did go to Disney for Howl’s Moving Castle.

Would he have helped out with other Pixar films in between Monsters, Inc. and Up? I’m not sure how much Pixar directors chip in with each other’s productions.

lizardgirl- He’s part of Pixar’s Brain Trust so yes, he did help in between Monsters and Up. What the members of the Brain Trust do pretty much is plus the movies with tips and advice and watch story reels etc. It’s basically directors helping directors.

I think it’s fine. Andrew Stanton has just reached his second directed film too (Finding Nemo, WALL-E), and so has Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille). Pete Docter has now reached his second directed film (Monsters, Inc., Up).

martini- Ah, I see, that’s cool. So it sounds like he’s had plenty to do anyway!

Well its good to know that well be seeing some more of his work, not to mention a Monsters Inc. sequal, which is totally awesome!

Another original idea from Docter? This guy’s amazing. Another Monster’s Inc would be awesome… much better than another Cars…meh.

I personally think that Cars could expand a lot more than Monsters Inc. Monsters was pretty tied up in the end.
