I’m getting anxious about finishing Christmas presents on time… ![]()
Just made a new Youtube video.
So, the High School I graduated from has an American Government/Political Science course required for graduation. And it turns out that the textbooks for that class were published in 1997.
Seriously? That is ridiculous.
Here are A FEW of the things that happened since 1997:
*Presidencies of Clinton, Bush, & Obama
*Bush V. Gore
*The Great Recession
*September 11, 2001
*The wars in the Middle East
No wonder many people of my generation have a poor understanding of Civics. Words can’t describe how much this bothers me.
I agree, Kenzie. It seems as though this generation is becoming increasingly more ignorant by the day. You would think with all the taxes we pay to our states and local government that end up funding schools, it would help provide enough to simply keep textbooks up-to-date. ![]()
little chef
Taxing is the problem. The United States is extremely undertaxed compared to other nations. People don’t understand that to improve our Education and Health Care systems it involves paying a bit more taxes.
A small percentage of tax money goes to education. New Orleans is still in disrepar from Hurricane Katrina that happened 5 years ago. Because our nation’s priority is to fund ‘rebuilding’ other nations. Our tax money goes to bombing the Middle East. Boy, that infuriates me. We’re bombing other nations instead of buying textbooks for our students.
But then they cry, “Socialism! Communism!” They can deny it, but the US is a partial socialist system. Fire Departments? Police Force? Roadwork? Now there’s socialism. They’re paid with taxes.
And they don’t realize this because they get a poor education in Civics. It’s a never ending circle.
I don’t mind paying more taxes if it means that our society becomes healthier and better educated.
My issue with the way history classes are taught is that there’s a constant cycle. I spent most of my years in social studies/history learning about the ancient Mayans and the Middle Ages, and usually by the time we reached the Industrial Revolution the year would be over and we’d learn the saaaaame things the next year. I’d be lucky to get up to World War II.
Anyway, my issue with this is that many major recent events were either scarcely taught or completely ignored. Honestly, I didn’t even know about the horrible massacre in Rwanda, which occurred when I was alive, until a few years ago. That’s sad to me.
You’ve hit the nail on the head here! I don’t think paying taxes is fun, but it’s hard to complain about failing schools and other flaws in our society when we don’t want to pay more taxes.
I should just move to someplace like Canada or Norway. Maybe Sweden.
I’m shopping for my own Christmas presents…And this experience is making me realize that I really have no idea as to what I want. ![]()
Has anyone seen that hilarious Disney Land/World meme? I can’t stop laughing at it!

The Youtuber that’s obsessed with another one seems to be laying off now, hope it stays that way, then we can be friends with him.

I’m finally finishing The Thin Red Line. This is definitely a contender for one the most disappointing, overrated movies ever. I realize it was released around the same time as another huge war movie, so in a way it was almost overshadowed… but geez, I’ve heard soooo many fellow film buffs call this one of the best movies ever, and I found it a chore to sit through due to the painful pacing in some parts and lack of strongly developed characters (of which there are too many!).
I could have received two other Netflix movies by now if I had sent back TTRL after I got halfway through and took a break from it, but noooo, I had to be a good girl and finish it all the way. It’s times like these when I’m wasting my membership’s value. ![]()
Thanks. I find it hugely overrated.
Need to fill a new application soon.
I hope my family and I go to the beach this week or next.
