What's Your Religion/Spiritual Beliefs?

A boy named Timmy goes up to a chalk board and writes, “Dear God, Why is there war and hunger in the world? Why can’t you stop people from hurting each other? Sincerely, Timmy.” Timmy walks away. An angel watches, goes to the board, and writes under his message, "
Dear Timmy, Why should I stop people if they are perfectly capable of stopping themselves? Sincerely, God."

It came from something called Jack. Thought about for a while after reading it.

But to me that sounds like a bit of a cop-out. On one hand God supposedly gave us free will, and on the other hand he uses divine intervention when he feels like it or when something good happens. Good events = God, bad events = humans’ fault. Talk about covering all bases.

Ever watched End of Days?

That idea confuses me. I can understand how Hurricane Katrina causing floods would be semi-human’s fault, but if an earthquake rips apart China or Italy, then apparently it’s humans’ fault?

That’s the planet’s fault, blame it!

Ok,I was always secret about this when I came here(my religion,that is),but

this is true weither anybody want’s to believe this that’s their thing. The reason

why things are happing in the world is because of what Adam and Eve

did, eating the forbidden fruit ,right(and because of Satan the

Devil). Now,because of that humans were born into sin and that’s why the

world is the way it is.I hope you are still understanding this…

Jesus died on a torture stake as a randsom sacrifice for our sins,so that we

may be forgiven and have everlasting life. But also you still have bad people on

the earth, and bad things happening to people on the earth, but very soon god

is going to bring an end to all of this mess. How do I know?Look at the world

right now,Jesus said that these things would be happening as a sign of the

end of all baddness. He is just giving people time to change so that they may

be saved and have everlasting life.

So that’s why things are happening on the earth today.

P.S: I would disclose my religion, but I’m afraid of what people will think. :frowning:

There’s this great Calvin and Hobbes strip that really shows my opinion on the matter. I’m not really anti-religion, I just don’t know…

We we say that it is man’s fault, we mean that, because Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden (Genesis), sin entered the world. Therefore, animals killed each other, natural disasters started, and man became sinful.

God could have killed off mankind then and there, but was merciful and allowed us to live. Therefore, any good is God’s doing.

Does that make sense? I’ll answer other questions you might have.

To me that is such a cop-out, though. I could just as easily attribute good events to the Flying Spaghetti Monster and blame bad behaviour on humans, or I could even blame it on the FSM, but it was the humans’ fault for making the FSM angry, and my theory would have just as much credibility as yours.

Also, if God knows everything (past, present, and future) and what is ultimately going to happen, why did he create Adam and Eve if he knew they were going to choose to eat the forbidden fruit and fail? Meaning that mankind forever would have to suffer. Kind of twisted, if you ask me.

Aside from the fact that the FSM has a well documented human-created origin, you’d be mostly right. It would be impossible to prove beyond a doubt that the God of the Bible really does exist. That’s where faith comes in. But beyond faith, there is also some evidence supporting God’s existence (I won’t bother explaining it now. If you are really interested I can show you later.).

We were created to glorify God. He didn’t want humans to sin, but we did despite direct warnings from Him. Adam and Eve had received those warnings, yet they sinned anyway. However, if we repent of our sins, God allows us into his perfect world (heaven), and one day he will return to earth and make it just as it was before the fall. That’s certainly good isn’t it?

I was always told that God did always know, but he wanted to give us a choice anyways.

Sure, if you could post it here I would like to read it. Actually, maybe we could continue this discussion in the following thread: Evolution and Creation

That would be good if it were true. My main point is that God put Adam and Eve through a test knowing they would fail. Even though there was the choice of disobeying God or not, he ultimately knew which result it would be, and that all humans would have to be punished for it. But what you call punishment, I call nature disasters, what you call God giving back, I say it’s natural for both good and bad things to happen in this world. But without reason, you don’t have justice, which is why I think people still believe in religion.

I’ll try to post my evidence there when I get a chance.

However, I think this particular debate has reached its stopping point. I can’t prove to you that God exists, and you can’t prove that he does. As I said before, it boils down to faith eventually. I will debate some more if you want to continue though.

It’s in the Melon!!!

Mitchell and Webb look about 40 minutes ago :stuck_out_tongue:

Umm, what does that have to do with anything, WALL•E? I’m sorry, but it just doesn’t make any sense…

little chef

I’m done. I don’t believe in anything now. I feel that I’m an athiest because I can no longer handle this “My religion’s right and you’ll burn in hell for having a different one!” idea. I want to have a religion, I feel I have a purpose in life if I do, but logic always wins in my book. What if Daoism is the correct religion? How bout Judaism or Mormons? Hinduism is perfectly valid too. I’m probably thinking on this too much, but I’m just sick of all these ideaologies that are supported by circular reasoning and constantly telling me that I am a morally wrong short sighted human being.

That’s what i thought. I went to a church school until I was 11, and I used to think (until i was about 10) everyone in the world was Christian or Jewish (and we all thought Judaism was a different type of Christianity) and we were only taught about the nice parts of the bible. Then i heard about other religions and thought: they say they are the true ones too, so what if christianity isn’t? I thought: this is a load of rubbish, and quit.

LOL. I dunno if it’s a joke or something. But I really thinks it’s funny.

Islam: There’s a bridge to heaven and if you didn’t follow allah’s rules correctly, it’s as sharp as a sword and as thin as a human hair

Christianity:

Judaism:

And some of the other religions don’t say this.

Hope no one minds if I through in my two cents here.

I know the whole “I’m write ,you’re wrong” thing, can get frustrating, but I don’t think you should give up your faith, whatever it was, solely based on that. I’ve been raised Catholic, and went to Catholic school, and I’ve been taught that we should work together, and accept other religions, even if they don’t agree with us. If people tell you you are wrong, ignore them. I know ,from at least the Catholic viewpoint, you can tell them they shouldn’t be saying that, and that they don’t know for 100% sure that they are right. That’s why it’s called faith isn’t it?
