So just a question about Sid in Toy Story. When do you think he started his habits of torturing toys? He was quite young in Toy Story (10-years-old), so who knows. Since some of his mutant toys do use parts from baby toys, it could be earlier.
It’s known that Babyface was probably his first mutant toy, however, he could have been torturing toys before that. I personally think that the red pickup truck in his sandbox was one of his earliest cases, since it was relatively undamaged, and it was buried so deep. He may have just forgotten about it, too. The Combat Carls in the mud puddle also appear to have been there for a while.
The other question is “why?” I guess the only thing that’s been hinted by Pixar is that he was nasy from the start. Since Babyface was his first, it was probably made to torment Hannah. Though, him torturing Buzz and blowing up Combat Carl show that this is also how he gets his kicks. Another factor that was just barely hinted at by Pixar was his dad, who seems to rarely interact with Sid, and Scud appears to fear him.
There are a lot of guys who did the same things as a kid. Usually to a lesser extent, but the point is he only comes off as evil to toys for the most part. he’s just having fun. sure he screwed up his sister’s toy, but that can just be sibling rivalry.
my cousins used to burn and break toys they got bored of all the time. doesn’t have to have an underlying psychopathic motive or dady issues behind it. Joe Rant said he was a sid as a kid, while Lasseter was more like Andy. kids entertain themselves however they like.
And its not like we’re ever shown him disobeying his parents, so we don’t even know if he was truly a bad kid. obviously no responsible parent lets their kid play with matches and rockets, but they seemed to be lousy parents anyway.
His mom seems like she’s just given up trying to control him, but they still have a normal relationship for the most part.
Sid’s room basically says all that ISN’T normal about him. A ten-year-old with power tools, a makeshift workbench, and all sorts of creepy stuff dedicated to torturing toys. Not to mention all the locks on his door.
And it’s been said that Sid was a bad kid anyways, being refered to as the neighborhood bully. His whole skater attitude is porbably linked ot his defiance and such. I mean, his parents probably sign him up for summer camp to get him out of the house, only for him to get kicked out regularly anyways.
But for the most part, I’d say your right. It would probably start off minor, like the Pixar staff, and build up from there.
I think he was “misunderstood and creative”, like JL says in the audio commentary. He’s not evil, he just has a crappy dad, and tries to…occupy himself with art projects.
I agree with Incredigirl Virginia - I don’t think Sid’s evil, either. I think he’s a misfit kid with a dysfunctional family and a warped creativity that is his coping mechanism. I always thought that, with a little luck and guidance, he could grow up to be the next Tim Burton.
This, right here. He even has a waffle iron in his room. I also noticed root beer cans around his room, leading me to believe he’s an underage drinker.
By the way sids also Destructive with things not only His He Destroyed a whack an alian Machine at Pizza planet and banged on a crane game window also at pizza planet
Creative indeed, but some of the stuff he makes is just disturbing. He had to be influenced somehow. And maybe “evil” wasn’t an appropraite word, but let’s say disturbed instead.
As far as the root beer goes, that just shows he’s unhealthy and has a very messy room.
Yes because if you look closely on the milk crates, it says that you will be fined $10,000 if you steal them, yet Sid still managed to get away with it.
Unless his dad is a milkman, though I highly doubt it.
No, there was a sourcebook that said he has all these fines for stealing milk crates. And I can only assume that he just snagged that traffic barrier he used at the launch site unlawfully.
For the rockets, he might’ve forged his parent’s signatures or something. Though his mom lets him play with matches after all (she just seems to be pretty clueless).
Exactly, she seems to be the type just, “Can I order this?” “Yeah, sure.” Same goes for the Matches.
I can picture Sid just wandering around and grabbing up the stuff he used for the launch site, and the milk crates, unless his parents have them and he grabbed them out of the garage.
