Where's Doc???

Yeah…my mom said the same thing…you can’t replace a voice like that…but even if Doc was in Cars 2 he wouldn’t get a lot of screentime because of Mater…

Eh, I think it would have more to do with Paul’s death than Mater’s enhanced role.

Well, if they do choose that Doc will die in the course of the movie, that’s a mixed bag as well. :frowning: I would personally cry, but it would make for a gripping motivation for Lightning and everyone else in the town, especially someone for Lightning to do his best in memory of.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens and trust Pixar - they love their characters too much to give one a bad sendoff.

I’ve seen some Toy Story Bo fans who would kind of disagree with you there really (as well as other character fans in other movies). Though her getting put on a bus to begin with kind of made sense given the fact she wouldn’t be able to survive the rough and tumble of their escapades.

(But then Bo wasn’t really as important as any of the previous TS movies, compared to Doc in the first movie).

But it seems to be that Mater is the most important character, with Lightening as the ‘best buddy’ in this one. It will be interesting to see how Pixar deals with placing someone different in the main character slot. They haven’t done that before. In all the TS sequels Woody was the most important in some way. (Though of course he would have been nothing without Buzz and the rest of the cast).

I agree with the not a lot of screentime, but I’m sure it’s not Mater’s fault. Not like he’s locking Doc in a barn or something.

Which makes me wonder why I STILL haven’t heard anything about Sally…And that’s what irratates me…and dissappoints me…Why can’t they do Lightning and Mater the same way they did Woody and Buzz?Unless Lassiter is a money hungryyou know what:confused:

Well it sort of seems like Cars2 will be going down the “Buddy Picture Path” as Toy Story First did, so I certainly think it’s more Woody and Buzz in that sense.

And I’m not quite sure what claiming Lassiter being “money hungry” is supposed to fit in. I mean voice actors don’t get paid that much and are really only doing it for the film. And even when the film has less voices, PIXAR spends that money on other aspects of the film (WALL•E had the least number of voices in any PIXAR flick and it cost $185M to make, 30 M more than Ratatouille which had nearly three times as many voices).

Well considering all the merchindise sell with this…character and Lassiter being at the top…it smells like him…

I don’t think John Lasseter would want to make a movie just to make money though. He’s stated that on several occasions.

Exactly. Remember people, Pixar will only do sequels if they can find a story better than the original.

JL has proven to be trustworthy in my book.

I have complete faith in Mr. Lasseter. I know a few people who are family friends with him, and my father’s met him too. He’s one of the most down to earth guys ever, and money isn’t the most important thing to him. Just because a less popular character isn’t in a trailer doesn’t make him a money and power hungry SOB.

I <3 John Lasseter. He wouldn’t make a cheap cash-in sequel.

If I ever meet him (which I’m determined to) I’ll mention you to him since you like him so much! He wont’ know who I’m talking about though, lol!

Doc was my favorite character. I will be sad to see him go. :frowning:

I like him too. He’s like what I would like for a Grandpa lol

The problem being that that can be exceedingly subjective sometimes though
. Personally I feel that while TS3 was overall a good movie, it wasn’t better than its predecessor TS2 or TS.

Plus people are indeed curious as to why Cars is getting a sequel to begin with- xCarsLuverx isn’t the first person to think this is a ploy for cash and she won’t be the last- it will be up to Pixar (when this movie is shown) whether those fears will be vindicated or not, or heck even if it is true whether it actually matters in this movies case. Though I doubt money is why Lasseter is putting it forward (he loves cars in general which is why he did the first), it’s possible however, when he put it forward, how it got GREEN LIGHTED. (Partially at least). If it was absolutely terrible with no redeeming features what so ever… I kind of hope it wouldn’t be greenlightened- but it certainly would ‘grease the cog wheels’ so to speak with some members in the financial area. Even if he’s pretty much in charge- he still has to answer to people and people probably advise him etc.

They are a company too. And they don’t only sell movies.

Cars sells merchandise it’s their little boy market. Hell, it’s one of the only two Pixar movies merchandise I’ve spent cash on. (Cars for a member of my family. M.I for me.)

Granted even something intended as an advertising ploy can turn out okay I guess- granted you more or less come up with '80s cartoon quality sometimes which… isn’t terrible, it’s just not OUR quality and can be hit and miss sometimes. (Transformers anyone?)

I can understand people being concerned regarding this sequel myself whether or not they have a personal stake in the original movie. I’m still unsure if ‘spies’ and everything would fit Cars yet. (Personally it would more fit the Incredibles or something.) Though the idea of the small town car having to deal with big world issues is interesting in a sort of mirror sort of way.

I mean overall, I think the reason I might have felt TS3 (while still good), wasn’t as good as its predecessors was because a major reason I loved the first two was the relationships Woody had with Buzz (and other characters), but especially Buzz. They are one of my favourite platonic Pixar
relationships and well, with the real Buzz in ‘Spanish mode’ in addition to other characters we didn’t see as much of it. We still saw a bit, but it has to be said that watching their friendship is a major draw of the TS movies to me. (Heck, becoming friends pretty much makes up ALL of the first movie, practically). While sure, there was a little bit of the reduction in the second, it was still important, we really saw their relationship having had undergone development and growth (Buzz isn’t afraid to call Woody out on harsh truths he needs to hear).

TS3 was at times a bit too… ‘hip’ as well.

Overall was it still good? Yes, though the others were better to me.

So if someone is incredibly invested in Lightning’s and Sally’s relationship… it doesn’t look like its a movie for them- granted we’ll still probably see a fair bit of at least ONE of the main three relationships Lightning has and who knows- the trailer might be drawing the little boys (who… aren’t big on shipping).

Granted the trailer is almost… Dreamsworksy… not that means its terrible… it’s just not very Pixarish. But perhaps it will be okay like TS3 (which also had… dodgy trailers IMO. )

Yeah, mentalguru I agree with you…thanks for looking at both sides of the issue because I feel like I’m alone in my opinion…again sorry if I’m annoying anyone…

Aw, that’s nice of you. Thanks!!

I’ll miss Doc, too, but it’s for the best.
