Where's Doc???

What is this I hear about [spoil]Doc not coming back in Cars 2??? I’ve been hearing around that he might possibly die, and Mater was clearly wearing crew chief apparel in the trailer. Would Pixar really do that? Doc was a centerpiece of the emotional scenes in the first Cars! I am seriously going to cry if they kill him off. :frowning: [/spoil]

Sadly, it seems he won’t be coming back, since Paul Newman passed away.

Yes, but they managed to keep Slinky around with a new voice actor. :frowning: And I think Ed Asner could do Doc well if he was cast. Not to mention Doc is a more major character than Slinky, I just can’t imagine them getting rid of him.

Sadly, I think BuzzandWoodyForever is right. :`-(

Nyeeehhhh… :`-( So not fair.

It is sad, I liked Doc, but I think that’s the way Pixar’s going to go.

Despite the fact that they recasted Slinky, they’re not gonna recast Doc out of respect for Paul Newman.

Do we know this for sure? :frowning: Is it announced official somewhere?

Larry The Cable Guy already confirmed that they would have some storyline where Doc has moved on or something.

Yeah, I remember reading that. :frowning:

Anyone have a link to it?

I hope they don’t try to replace Paul Newman, personally. I’m still mad at them for replacing Jim Varney. :frowning:

I’m kind of hoping they don’t replace him, either. I think it could be kind of good for the story.

Being both a Paul Newman fan and a Doc Hudson fan, I’m on the fence. On one hand, I would hate to see Doc not be in the film. He is at the heart of some of the most emotional scenes in the entire film! But on the other hand, I would cry in the middle of the theater every time I see Doc’s mouth move, but don’t hear Paul’s voice. It’s a tricky situation for me. But I trust Pixar, and whatever they decide to do I will support all the way.

Yes!

Slinky’s voice, I felt, was a much more justified example for needing a replacement voice. He was, after all, a central character to both the first and, unlike Bo Peep, had a very central role to the second film. He’s got a veteran’s tenure in this sense having lived through both films.

Since this is Car’s first sequel I can understand the reasoning by PIXAR should they choose not to return this iconic character. I think it would strike a much more emotional blow to the cast to not have him be there.

Slinky Dog’s replacement in ts3 was a close friend of Jim Varney so it’s understandable why Slink got a new voice actor for that movie.

I’d rather they just passed him off as “dead”. You can’t replace somebody like Paul Newman.

I agree 100% with this statement.
