Which languages can you speak?

I just noticed in the “Hi, my name is…” topic that some are welcoming Maité in Spanish. So I thought it would be interesting to know what languages you can speak (with exceptions of English  ) and maybe with a sentences in that language or two.

Well, I start:

Naturally I can speak German. Ist ja immerhin meine Muttersprache (After all it’s my mother tongue). I once learned Spanish but I’m not good at it and I was never able to say simple sentences on my own.

What about you?

Well, the most natural language for me is english. (No surprise there   ). I took a Filipino language class for 3 years in High school. I know a little Japanese, and a couple words in Chinese and Spanish.

Je parle Francais (still learning), Ich spreche Deutsch (still learning), and english naturally.

Here’s my little Dora the Explorer type script!!
My original language is Spanish.
Mi lenguage original es espanol.
But I always studied english.
Pero siempre estudie Ingles.
That’s why I speak both fluently.
Por eso hablo las do fluentemente.
I live in Florida.
Vivo en la Florida.
Where I can speak both with whomever.
Adone puedo hablar los dos lenguages con qualquiera.
So yeah, I speak English and Spanish fluently.

English. The end.

I did French for a year or two at high school, but only because they made me do it. I hate languages.

Aside from Latin, but that doesn’t count, since we don’t speak it and we can’t translate from English to Latin, so basically what we learn has no use whatsoever.

I’m always impressed by people that are bilingual. I can’t even begin to comprehend how one can learn an entire new language from scratch.

I speak Tagalog (Filipino Langauge), English, and I’m taking basic Spanish in high school.

I Speak English…lol :sunglasses:

I think I can speak english pretty much fluently, mostly thanks to the american tv series and movies I watch. I could probably understand it better than speak it though.

Et je parle, à l’évidence, le français - étant Français moi-même, ce serait bien.
And I can obviously speak french - being French myself, that’d be good.

lol

yes of course archibald :sunglasses:

I can speak a little bit of French, but only if I really need to. I took 4 years of it in high school, but I didn’t retain much of it at all…I really wish I would’ve studied more, though. Knowing another language is almost invaluable.

i’m looking at taking french as my language in college.

In the order of which I’ve learned:

Farsi
English
Spanish – not perfectly fluent yet, but can hold simple conversations
German – I start class tomorrow!

Hopefully Italian and French soon.
Ultimately, I want to be fluent in Spanish, German, Italian, and French.
I’m majoring in comparative literature so that I can learn translation studies and be able to speak many languages, travel, and interpret.
Also, I sing opera so I have to know how to pronounce Italian/French/German. And maybe in the future, I can be a language coach!

Sheila

I’m going to be taking French this year. (When school starts.) And I’d love to learn Italian, as well.

English is my mother tongue, in case you didn’t know that we speak English down here - my dad went to the US recently and he said he got quite a few of “Do you guys speak English in Australia?” questions, lol. I took 7 years of Italian in primary (elementary school) but can’t remember any of it, 4 years of German in high school but have only remembered the basics and what I’ve picked up from watching Inspector Rex, and know a few phrases and exclamations in Japanese from watching TV shows. I really admire anyone that can speak more than one language. =)

martini - Really? I’m very impressed. I would have thought your first language was English!

Archibald - For only learning English from movies and TV, you are very good at using it, sometimes better than people whose first language is English.

I took 5⅓ years of Spanish.

You’re probably wondering about the ⅓ of a year. They divided 6th grade into thirds, and we learned the basics of Spanish, French, and German during each third. At the end of the school year, we had to choose which language we wanted to continue learning.

When I chose Spanish, I was thinking ahead of time. Back then I knew a job in animation meant living in Florida or California, although now my destination is clear.

My Spanish is kinda fuzzy, so having a Hispanic boyfriend helps. I like to impress him with words and phrases I know, but he claims I know more than he does. Heheh.

HA HA HA HA HA (no offence to you americans with IQs higher than your shoe size.)

I am italian. I studied languages in “high school” and now I can('t) speak and write fluently english, french and german… I’m able to read more than write, that’s why I read more than write on this forum :stuck_out_tongue:

but… ich erinnern mich keine deutsche Wort an (exactly… ;_:wink:

That’s “Aber ich kann mich an kein deutsches Wort erinnern”

watched Das Wunder Von Bern a few weeks ago.

danke schön
