Which scenes shocked you?

Kind of a follow-up to the ‘which scenes made you cry?’ thread. Which scenes in Pixar

films just made your jaw drop? Like… plot twisters, cliff hangers and such.

Here’s a list of scenes that

just made my heart jump:

-The jet explodes with Helen, Violet and Dash in it (The Incredibles)
-The

King crashes (Cars)
-Nemo says, “I hate you,” to Marlin (Finding Nemo)
-Nemo almost gets caught

in the tank fan (Finding Nemo)
-A speeding car blows the flame on Woody’s match away (Toy Story)
-Hopper

drowns three grasshoppers in a pile of seeds (A Bug’s Life)
-Waternoose pushes Mike and Sulley into the human

world (Monsters, Inc.)

A lot of scenes almost made me

jump out of my seat. Conincidentally, they are all from the Incredibles.

The Incredibile, tree, squeaker,

and gun chase.
Elastigirl first appears.
Suicide jumper
Bomb Voyage
Buddy and the bomb
The

train
Fighting siblings durring dinner
The fire
The copsicle
Mr. Huph gets pushed through the

walls
When the jet flew by (whoosh!!!)
Omnidroid appears out of nowhere
Bob vs omnidroid
Deaths of

all the supers with capes
The omnidroid pops up again
Mr. Incredible and the bomb underwater
Gazerbeam

skeleton
When Mr. Incredible hurled that giant monopod ride thing at the entrance and the guards.
The

garage door lifts caught me by surprise
Bob gets caught with the homing device
Syndrome shocks Mr.

Incredible
Missile Lock
When the body of the plane crashes underwater
All of "Lithe or

Death"
The rocket almost killing Violet and Dash
Mirage takes a sudden jab from Helen
100 Mile

Dash
Violet is swept to the ground and almost killed
Dash saves her
Incrediball and the two

explosions
Family fighting for the first time
Syndrome catches them
Omnidroid invades the city
The

final battle
Syndrome invades the house, slames them onto the furniture and takes Jack-Jack

away
Jack-Jack’s powers revealed
The explosion that destroyed the house
Underminer emerges.

And

that is all. A lot isn’t it?

Uhmm…Hmm…

Well, when you first see the scuba

diver in Finding Nemo, it’s a bit like ‘woah!’ And when Waternoose suddenly starts trying to bang the door

down of the scare simulation room, because of the panic that Sulley’s in, it always makes me jump.

Another

excellent thread!

Hmmm. Well, I guess my list would go something like this…

Cars - 1) When McQueen blows a tire (it was so loud in the theater that

I jumped out of my seat); 2) When “the King” crashes; 3) When Doc relives the old days and races around

Willy’s Butte (this scene “drove out” a feeling of exhilaration in me rather than shock or fear; as of

today, it is still my favorite scene in Cars).

The

Incredibles - Oh gosh; there are too many shocking/jaw-dropping scenes to name from this movie!

I’ll just say that the whole thing surprised me…in a good sense.

Finding

Nemo - 1) When the diver appears behind Nemo; 2) The first “tank escape” attempt by the

tank gang and Nemo; 3) When the fishing net breaks off from it’s “captor” and falls perilously to the

bottom of the sandbed (as if things weren’t bad enough, Nemo has to get smashed); 4) When Marlin tells Dory to

leave (shocking; I almost cried my eyes out from shock…); 5) When Dory gets caught by a jellyfish ([shudder];

I was ready to leave the theater if she died…).

Monsters Inc. - 1) When

Mike almost falls victim to the Scream Extractor; 2) When Sulley roared in front of Boo; 3) The first time we see

Randal…

Toy Story 2 - 1) When the Prospector’s true nature is revealed;

 1. When Woody almost falls from the plane; 3) When Gerry wipes off Andy’s signature on Woody’s boot.

A Bug’s Life - 1) When Flik gets beat up by “Thumper”; 2) When

Hopper buries three of his cronies; 3) The rain…

Toy Story - Pretty much

anything with Sid… :unamused:

Welp…that’s my list! Kinda long, but oh well…

Well, I can only

say truthfully that I was really “shocked” about anything in their more recent films, say, Nemo and

later; I can’t remember my emotions from when I was a young’un and watched their earlier movies for the first

time, yet when I became the huge giant fan I am today and rewatched all their movies a bazillion times, I still

remembered enough about the movies to not be really shocked by anything that happened.

That said, I’d say

Lightning screeching to a halt at the finish line would be the biggest shocker for me, moreso than the King’s

actual crash. I’m deviating a bit here from the “shocking” aspect of it, but that was an incredibly

well-done scene; absolutely no music, no sound but for Lightning’s idling engine, and then just seeing Chick

zoom past the finish line without changing camera angles or anything, it’s just an amazingly beautiful piece of

cinematics right there.

A lot of the scenes having to do with Doc’s past were fairly surprising to me,

too. It was obvious from the moment Doc challenged Lightning to the race that Doc had some history with racing,

although I was shocked when Doc just sat there at the starting line; I’d been expecting Doc to beat Lightning

flat-out and completely dumbfound Mr. Confident, so when that wasn’t the case I was pretty confused, and

interested to see what was going to happen. And even though I’d figured out that

Doc had a past in racing, I was still pretty darn shocked to find that he had three Piston Cups!

Moving

away from Cars to their other films, they aren’t as fresh in my memory, but the main instances I can think of

are:

 • in Finding Nemo when Nemo disappears after Nigel brings news of his dad, and he goes to try to stop the

filter again

 • in The Incredibles when the camera zooms in on the bird camera after the first Omnidroid

battle; when Syndrome makes his first appearance; when Bob finds Gazerbeam’s skeleton; and the whole "new

babysitter" thing.

As I said already, I can’t really say about Toy Story through Monsters, Inc. All

I’d really be able to know with cerainty would be the stock things that are big giant plot twists: Sulley and

Mike’s banishment, Stinky Pete, etc.

Awesome

threads! (Hhm, that really sounds like I’m talking about clothes…) Let’s see, which scenes shocked

me?

-Well, for starters, when Hopper buries three of his followers under all that grain. You don’t

really know how heartless he really is until that moment.
-The whole beginning of Toy Story 2 shocked me.

When Buzz suddenly gets vaporized from the waist up… :open_mouth:
-The Stinky Pete plot twist shocked me as

well, although it made a lot of sense looking back.
-The Waternoose twist was an absolute shocker too. When

he pushed Mike and Sulley through that door, I went “Wait, what just happened?” In fact, if it

weren’t for Mike saying “Too bad he was in on the whole thing!” I might not have gotten it. :unamused:

-I was shocked by the death in the opening of Finding Nemo… it was just really atypical of Pixar.
-The

scuba diver surprised me a little bit, too.
-Gazerbeam’s skeleton made me jump.
-I was shocked by the

King’s crash- it just surprised me that it was so intense. It didn’t look like Chick really hit him that

hard… but I guess it doesn’t take much.
-And I have to agree with DElf. McQueen screeching to a stop just

inches before the finish line really surprised me.

 Yes! I know I said I

don’t really remember much of anything from pre-Nemo, but now that it’s been mentioned I do vividly remember my

jaw thudding onto the floor when Buzz got ion blasted.

Wow, we have

something in common.

Nothing too much: Just . . .

Buzz breaking his arm.

Knew he was going to fall, NEVER thought he’d break. (TS)

Stinky Pete ripping Woody. Just thought

“Yee - that was a tad violent!” (TS2)

Sulley & Mike go through the French Door - You know

the one where they fall through vertically, but land horizontally. I basically had

a Kari thought: “Well that was wierd!” (MI)

That’s pretty much it!
