This is a link that I learned of through the original
“Never Forgotten Foster’s Forum”, which describes people in terms of their personality types.
Basically, we are genetically pre-programmed to act a certain way, based on our personality types, depending on
the amount of stress we are placed under, and for how long. The more severe the stress, and the longer it is
applied, the more “unhealthy” the “levels” of our personalities become, and without
intervention, they can reach a fatal point. Like it or not, folks, humans, and presumably those monsters that
are descended from humans-are still very much slaves to our instincts. As a naive college kid, I really believed
that we had 100% “free will” to choose our own courses, but like most older adults, I really do not
believe that “free will” exists except under optimal spiritual/mental/emotional conditions.
This is a link to a description of a personality Type Three, which fits Randall Boggs to an absolute T,
right down to the most unhealthy and stress-filled level 9. Incidentally, it also fits Mike Wazowski to a T, and
Mike’s levels of personality and behavior were not so “healthy”, either. If you consider the
possibility-no, make that PROBABILITY-that Mike KNEW where the door led to when HE picked it out and held it open
for Sulley to throw Randall into it, and KNEW what would likely happen to Randall once he was thrown inside, Mike
was all the way down to rock-bottom, a level 9, himself. There is a link further down on this page that you can
click for a detailed description of a Type Three personality, and what to expect from them. Be aware that most
people are NOT solidly “locked in” to one personality type, but often waver between two. One of my
other favorite characters, Wilt from “Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends”, is a Type Two most of the
time, driven by a need to help others and be loved and feel useful, but he has many times ventured into Type
Three territory, being every bit as competitive and determined to win at all costs as Randall can be. I have no
trouble imagining that if all that mess with the Scream Extractor and Waternoose had not happened, and if the
situation in Randall’s off-work life had been better, he would have been just as nice a guy as Wilt can be, but
even the strongest camel’s back will support only just so much
straw.

I, by the way, am a Type Five, driven by
intellect, the thirst for knowledge, and logic, so it naturally is far beyond my comprehension how people can
only see one side of a character, or can only feel(I refrain from using the word “think” in this
case)that Randall deserved the worst “because of what he wanted to do to Boo”, based on how they feel a
HUMAN should treat a HUMAN child.
