Why all this Cars 2 hate?

^He gave it a negative score :frowning: The summary:

“I have such high regard for Pixar and its creative team, led by John Lasseter, that it actually hurts to knock one of their movies-something I’ve never done before. But then, I’ve never gotten a headache watching any of their previous films.”

^ I specifically remember reading that one. It hurts me to see Pixar go through this. I know I’ve said this a lot, but the whole thing is completely unfair.

I don’t think it’s unfair, I think it’s quite honest. People shouldn’t feel obligated to grade PIXAR an easier time for this just because of their previously perfect movie score. It’s very harsh review, but he’s being completely truthful.

I think it’s interesting how while some people are bothered by it or creeped out by the idea of a world populated with only talking cars, other people are perfectly comfortable with the idea. Maybe it’s what separates the gearheads from the non-gearheads? :stuck_out_tongue: Though if that were the case, there’d be a lot more gearheads… We may never know!

Agreed. I think the point of “it’s a very illogical world” is totally invalid. That’s an aspect of the movie, you have to use your imagination and enter this new world that we don’t know everything about.

The problem I had wasn’t really the world itself or the seemingly absent logic behind it, it was that unlike every other PIXAR film I had no real emotional investment to it.

Which one? Cars or Cars 2? Cars had a lot of emotion behind it in my eyes despite popular belief but I would have to agree that the sequel lacked emotionally a great deal.

Cars 2. The first Cars did indeed have a very strong emotional tie to it which is why, even though the story was…not as strong as their other films, it still felt like a PIXAR brand film.

Cars 2 felt more like a DTV sequel.

You are so right. Besides the loose theme of friendship there was hardly any substance to it. That disappointed me the most.

Yes. I was partial to Cars 2, and I don’t think it as bad as Maltin gave it out to be. But he was just saying his opinions and being honest of them.

Has Armold said anything yet?

I really don’t see how it lacked emotion. I think it had a lot more emotion than the first Cars.

If it there was any, I completely missed it.

The film did have a lot more drama than the first film though.

I guess humiliation, finding out your best friend is embarrassed to be near you in any public area that isn’t your home, and having no one ever take you seriously while constantly laughing at you aren’t things to get emotional about.

Pixar Fans and Cars Fans seem to be disappointed of the film and People on the internet just hate it, but outside, GENERAL AUDIENCES are loving it

an A- in Cinemascore is GREAT

Real Pixar Fans should not faint despite of critics and haters, we have to support it because it is indeed a great film, I have seen it 2 times so far, and it has grown on me even more, that is just awesome!!

Go Cars 2!!!,

Don’t speak for everyone if it isn’t everyone.

ok, but MOST of them are doing it

Okay, but is making a fuss going to change a thing? Of course it won’t, so don’t act the way they’re acting towards the sequel right back to them. Did they change your love for Cars? No, so you doing this won’t change them either.

You already know that most people also think the ratings are ridiculous, even the ones that didn’t like Cars 2 that much. They still thought that the rating was way too much and still deserves to fresh.

Indeed. And this is slightly off topic but I love the pic in your signature.

Barely, but it was so weak and those aspects were handled so haphazardly. I know what they were trying to get across in he end was to “Accept people as they are” but the way it came actually came across in the film, to a lot of people seemed more like “No matter how disruptive someone is, NEVER under any circumstances, tell them to quiet down.” Even Mater’s big dream epiphany about how he’s perceived seemed really forced, and that was the only attempt to have any emotion in the film, which is completely retconned by the end- he doesn’t learn a thing and stays the exactly the same.
