when the supers where gone? they must have taken over the world, the police isnt able to control them, and the army…well, theu couldnt handle the omnidroid, did the civils forced the supervillians to leave their supers lifes too?
and then when the supers are back, the underminer rises,
Everyone knows Super-villains are highly dramatic, maybe they all felt that without the supers around to test their wits against there was no point in doing anything.
Or they could have all mostly been already captured, we only really see Bomb Voyage as a villain and he doesn’t seem to be one of the ‘high tier’ foes so perhaps the lack of villains to defeat was one of the factors in banning masked super-heroism.
I feel like I may have brought this up half past some time ago…But in any case, yeah I’ve wondered that too! I’d find it odd if they were allowed to just run rampant and wreak havoc. But they wouldnt have left without good reason. Maybe some of them didnt see it as a challenge anymore with the supers gone. You know, the thrill is gone. Of course, I cant speak for all of them (or any of them, really).
This is an interesting question, and I agree with what’s been said so far. The villains in The Incredibles seem to not be very serious, or rather, they enjoy the pantomime of being a villain (even if, in the days of the Supers, they’d get caught and put behind bars). It’s so much more fun if there’s a powerful opposition against you.
Also, some of the villains might not even have gone down the route of villainy at all if it wasn’t for the Supers. Some normal guy with a boring life might have been sitting at home, watching the TV and seeing the Supers doing their work, and might have thought, “hey, it’ll be fun being a villain, fighting against these guys! And if I try and do something bad, at least it’s very likely that I’ll be stopped before I do any real harm”. Knowing that you’re going to be stopped anyway means that if you go out to try and steal some money, for example, it’s sort of less evil as you don’t expect to get so far. Just an idea.
And you just reminded me, lizardgirl, that yeah some villians may only exist because of the supers. You know, like a personal vendetta type thing. Once the supers are gone. Their main motivation for revenge is gone.
I could be wrong, but The Underminer may had been secretly plotting underneath the Earth all that time (without knowing too much about the things that were going on above him) until he was ready to attack. As for all the other villains, maybe they either thought that they had already won or that the fun of it was gone with no one to challenge them anymore. Most of the villains I remember seeing in Bob’s time seemed to be average thugs or high-tech villains like Bomb Voyage anyway.
