Why he's called "The KING"

Richard Petty, who “THE KING” is based on actually held the name throughout his career. I was watching the NASCAR race tonight and saw the top ten record for highest winnings ever, he still holds the number 1 spot winning 200 races during his career. So I decided I would do some research and found some pretty cool stuff! He’d also won 127 pole positions (meaning he qualified to start the race in the first position for all the non-NASCAR fans out there) had 700 top ten finishes in 1,185 races and won MOST POPULAR DRIVER 9 times! The design for The King that we see in the movie is based on the Plymouth Superbird he’d driven in 1970, right down to the baby blue color and high spoiler. The Kings crash at the end of the movie was also recreated from his real life accident in the same year, except for the fact that it wasn’t deliberate. So yeah, I can see why he’s called “The King” :sunglasses:

Sorry! That may not be very interesting to anyone but I though it was cool!

Wow – well, what do you know? His title sure fits his career, that’s for sure. Wonderful bout of information there. Thanks for sharing it!

Yeah, I figured he was probably legendary but I had no idea he was that good :sunglasses:

You are abolutely right. I read all that on wikipedia.com

That’s where I got it, there’s alot more I left out though. It’s pretty cool

My stepdad’s a big NASCAR fan , and I watch it myself sometimes , and I always heard them talking about how Petty had his own character in the movie . They even said Mrs.Weathers (who’s played by Petty’s wife) is a station wagon because Mrs.Petty used to drive their kids to the races in a station wagon .

Not interesting? That’s amazing, man!

I’m not a NASCAR fan, but I do still the point in the sport where others do not, so it’s still pretty cool to me! :sunglasses:

I’m glad you find it intersesting! Some people just roll their eyes when I start throwing out information so I didn’t know if anyone would find it as intersting as I did

Life isa Highway – (Heehee) Anything to do with Pixar’s films is interesting to me…

I’m a huge NASCAR fan and having Richard Petty in the

film is a great touch. I also love they they worked in a few others like Darrell Waltrip (as Darrell Cartrip),

Mario Andretti (as himself, right before the final race), Michael Schumacher (as himself, at Luigi’s), Humpy

Wheeler (as Tex), and Dale Earnhardt, Jr (as himself).

I agree. Pixar tries to put in some references to the

subject every chance they get. And welcome to Pixar planet Lightning95.

Who is Humpy Wheeler? All the other names I

recognize.

(sorry to resurrect such an old topic, hope nobody minds)

Do you have the DVD? Watch the

little bit about the inspiration for Cars. It tells there…not that I paid much attention…I have ADD.
