Why I loved Toy Story... and still do...

What I liked about Toy Story

Here’s my TS expereice and why I’m the big fan that I am of Toy Story.
Back when I was five or four when it first released in '95, I remember seeing commercials for it and I was really into the movie. I remember seeing Burger King commercials for it and the whole bit. In fact, my favorite TS1 character was Buzz because I see him most in the Burger King commercials, but now they are Woody, Buzz, Rex, and Hamm, and the Aliens too I guess.

I also remember seeing the Toy Story treats, but only few of them. I really liked the Fast Food shorts, and the ones that took place after Andy redecorated his room (Buzz Lightyear style). I liked it better when Andy redorcorated his bedroom. It looked SO much better Buzz-style than Woody-style.

I also liked his cloud wall paper in his room! I wish that was in TS2. I loved it. It looked better than TS2.

I wish Pixar would’ve made Toy Story into a full blown TV show like they with Buzz Lightyear. It wouda made a great TV show,

What I liked about Toy Story 2

I can’t really say much about TS2. But I did like the new characters intoduced- Bullseye and Jessie! I liked TS1 better.

I also liked the airplane scene.

How the franchise could’ve improved?

If Andy didn’t move away at the end of TS1. His TS1 bedroom looked better than in TS2.

I liked Toy Story itself better than the Buzz Lightyear series (I liked the cartoon Buzz Lightyear seires too but I liked Toy Story better) but I liked Patrick Wrburton’s voice as Buzz better.

If Jessie and Bullseye were introduced somehow in TS1. I would’ve loved to see Jessie and Bullseye in TS1 Andy’s room, and Zurg too I guess.

If they made more Toy Story treats… for Toy Story 2 that is.

The scene with Zurg and Buzz playing catch at the end of TS2 kinda sucked.

I dreamed of being a 3D modeler so I can render and make my own Toy Story animations but it’s not too late for me to do that.

Okay I’m done.
Thoughts? Opinions?

Very interesting to hear your thoughts, emergencyexit42. I agree that Andy’s old bedroom is better than his new one, and his old bedroom is always the one that comes to mind whenever I think of Andy’s room, but I also think that the transition of moving house was needed to physically show how both Woody and Buzz (and the other characters) were able to move on mentally. Woody wasn’t jealous of Buzz anymore, and accepted him for who he is, Buzz realised that he isn’t a space ranger, but that being a toy isn’t such a bad thing, and the others learnt not to be so quick to judge. So Andy moving house sort of demonstrated the characters’ progressions, leaving behind the more negative emotions.

Patrick Warburton was very good as Buzz in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, definitely. But I think that the Buzz in this spin-off was sort of…different to the Buzz we see in the movies, so each voice actor was appropriate for each situation. Plus, I just love Tim Allen as Buzz.

I liked the introduction of Jessie and Bullseye (as well as the Prospector) in Toy Story 2. I think they were really needed for the sequel more than anything, because the risk of creating a sequel is that people will just think that it’s more of the same. Introducing new, plausible characters meant Pixar was able to show the world that a sequel could still contain original ideas that don’t feel out of place in the world of the original.

Haha, come on, you’ve got to admit that seeing Buzz and Zurg playing catch was funny! And it also demonstrated in Toy Story 2 what Buzz learnt in the original, that they’re only toys. The overacting of the whole father and son situation just made it funnier. But each to their own.

I’m totally with you in that I too prefer Toy Story to Toy Story 2. I love both films, but the original has a sort of x-factor, a special quality that the sequel (I think) doesn’t have. It doesn’t stop Toy Story 2 from being an absolutely amazing film, but I didn’t grow up with it in the same way as I did with Toy Story.

Once again, thanks for sharing your opinions, emergencyexit42. I like a good in-depth discussion.

Thanks, Lizardgirl for showing an interest in my post.
I do agree with you about the whole chracter development thing. But I wish TS spent more time in Andy’s room than at Sid’s house.

In Toy Story 2 I really wasn’t a big fan of the Prospector, just Jessie and Bullseye. The Prospector was a villian and got what he deserved lol.

Despite that it was rather short I also enjoyed the piece of animation at the beginning of the Buzz Lightyear movie. It’s like they were showing Buzz who he thought he was.

Well, Buzz and Zurg playing catch was kinda funny but I found it funny in a lame way. But I did like the Star Wars reference that happened before that thoguh! I thought that part was lame because that was the last time seeing the Utility Belt Buzz. I wanted to see him make a friendship with the real Buzz and the other guys too.

It’s also kinda silly in a stupid way that they had Tim Allen voice Buzz in the Toy Story movies, and in the Buzz movie but then have Patrick Warburton voice Buzz in the TV show.

Sadly, I won’t be looking forward to the upcoming Toy Story 3. I was hopping TS3 would be about Buzz being recalled to Taiwan. Unfortuantely, Pixar didn’t use that plot. But for the sake of my fandom of Toy Story, i will go see it anyway.

sighs I wish I still had the TS figurines, b/c with them I would make some fan films.
