Why is A Bug's Life so underrated?

A Bug’s Life was my second favorite, but, since i’m a huge fan of the car world, Cars is now my second favorite! But, I can’t disagree, A Bug’s Life was really decent despite the wrong timing in production.

I’ve always seen this film SO underrated, it used to be the funniest pixar film, but what makes it a masterpice is its screenplay, the circus gang idea and how they build the big bird is mind blowing, and Hopper’s death is one of the darkest out there, simply a joy among animation films

honestly I am dying to see A Bug’s Life SHORT, or a sequel

I’d like a short. Anyway, today my sister mixed ABL up with Antz. :open_mouth: I’m ashamed of her…this movie needs more love. REALLY.

Huh!? ABL and Antz are completely different films! :frowning:

Exactly!! The ants even look different!!! But, maybe I over reacted. I’m such a huge mega fan of most animated films, and my sister…isn’t. I guess it’s just the ignorance of the masses. :stuck_out_tongue:

The ants in Antz look so weird!

I’ve been reading The Pixar Touch, can’t remember the author, and there’s a whole chapter (half a chapter) about the little “war” between A Bug’s Life and Antz. A Bug’s Life did better as a whole, and outgrossed Toy Story worldwide, but not domestically. Which makes sense I guess, because from what I remember at the time-and I was only 5-A Bug’s Life was pretty big in the UK, y’know. There were balloons and banners and happy meal toys and a lot of advertising, and as for Antz, I can’t recall any advertising at all.

A Bug’s Life is the clearest example of Katzenberg revenge against Disney and Pixar, when he left Disney, he already knew all the upcoming disney & pixar projects
then, he in his company decided to make his first computer animated feature film, and guess what, it was ANTZ, he also pushed the animators to finish up the film before the ABL release date, Antz was launched 1 month before a bug’s life in 1998,I read this story a long time ago

Yep. I hate Katzenberg for a lot of things, but Antz is #1.

I thought Dreamworks and Pixar could be equals, but, seeing Dreamwork’s meaningless pieces of scrap (other than Shrek), Pixar is bountifully better than Dreamworks. Yes, they grab the attention of the kids, but they definitely can’t grab the attention of the rest of the age body, like Pixar can.

They can go to Hillbilly hell!

Nice reference!

8D Hillbilly hell!

I was going to say it was a little harsh, but, in context… 8D

A Bug’s Life is my favorite of all the Pixar films. It’s got their first princesses, their best villain, their best ending, and their first ‘the end’ title card. It’s almost impossible to find stuff on it, which rots if you’re a huge fan like me.

There’s nothing to not like in my case (aside from the force romance between Atta and Flik, but that’s another story), and why it’s ignored most of the time baffles me.

Eh, I wouldn’t say that about a whole company. Should J Katz go to Hillbilly Hell? Sure. But not the company. And KFP and HtTYD were just as good as Shrek. Better, IMO.

Anyway, this movie is under rated because most people don’t have taste.

This movie is, logically anyway, underrated because it was in between the Toy Story films (which are flawless to many, many people), (almost) boycotted by another company, came out in the same year as the wonderful Mulan, and, if you live in the UK and don’t get Seinfield or NewsRadio, the voice actors with the exception of Kevin Spacey are completely unrecognizable-which is, in theory, a good thing, but people are often attracted (unfortunalty) to big names, which is a road Katzenberg took with Antz. So yeah, I guess it is a case of wrong place, wrong time.

It’s too bad that voice over for the caterpillar want-to-be-a-‘beautiful’-butterfly is dead…

Good actor.

Aw man, Joe Ranft was awesome. I still feel sad that he’s gone :frowning:

He was one of my favorite Pixarians, too. :frowning: And Glenn McQueen.

yeah. And after coming off a success like Toy Story, it is always hard to go over the top again and again and again.

He’s probably a beautiful butterfly in pixar heaven now…

I think one reason that contributes to abl being underrated is the fact it was such an early film. Toy Story is an exception, because it was groundbreaking. Also I’m ashamed to say I know some people who confuse this movie with Antz.
