Why the sequals?

Another thing to consider is that Pixar IS like the…best animated movie makers in the world. Sure, maybe making a sequel of something that is, probably, the climax of it’s property (take Toy Story, toys coming to life was it’s property. At the time, was a great film revolution and the concept was fresh and was best presented in that way). So it WOULD be kinda hard for a sequel to live up to it’s predeccessor (though I guess there are some acceptions when a sequel does surpass it), if the first one is already the climax of that property. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve a chance.

I just thought about this: Monsters, Inc. might be a bit more open-ended than we thought.

While, yes, Randall was “banished”, eventually he will realize that he can make it back into the monster world by entering a door being used like Sully did. This could lead to a giant revenge/rivalry story that could easily spawn a sequel.

But… nah. I doubt it

Woah never tought anyone would remember me ^^

Anyway I do agree with you guys. Some movies are obviously too closed to be continued. But wasn’t that the case with toy story too? When the first movie ended it was a pretty done deal. Yet pixar took it to another level by introducing a whole new perspective on things (not the story of toys comming to life, but the story of growing up and getting new interrests being told by known characters) So if anyone is innovative enough to make a sequal to ‘done deals’ it would be the people at Pixar.
But after watching Ratatouille again today I must say that in terms of totally closing a book Ratatouille is closed, put in a safe, welded it shut and wasd then moulded into concrete.

Anyway we will have to wait what the future brings us and let them surprise us.

…Mostly that’s the very first thing people notice that makes it open-ended…people seemed to forget the door bit…good you noticed

Yes ^^ Not so much a revenge story…more of a redemption one ^-

I know right? That’s been in the back of my head every time I watch that. It’s like, Randall can get out of there and open a door just like Sully, dont mike and sully realize that? Oh well.

NetBug009, Bug’s Life could not have a sequel because Joe Ranft is gone and he was the voice of Hiemliech! (not sure if i spelled that right)

But the guy who did the Binoculars in Toy Story is also gone, ad behold, Toy Story 3.

That’s true, but in comparison to Heimlich, Lenny (I think that’s his name) is not a key character. They don’t really have to explain his disappearence in TS3, or they could just have him as a non-speaking role. On the other hand, Heimlich can’t just disappear or have a non-speaking role, because it would be too obvious.

They could get a voice double, but it’s never quite the same.

also the voice of Slinky is gone, so no idea how they’re gonna do that.

That is true lizardgirl. No matter what happens, you can neve replace the original of something, no matter how similar or talented the voice is.

Unfortunately, we will probably have no Filmore out of respect for Cars 2 as well.

Well, he is writing up his report right now, Ill post some bits of it when he is done

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Andrew Stanton: Oh, I’m sure. Sadly there can always be a sequel. It just depends on whether it should be a sequel, and you know, personally I don’t think I’ll be involved in any sequel soon just because I’m, you know, you spend four years on these things and you’re ready to move on. I’m done with fish, and now I’m done with robots and I love these characters. You try to make them so endearing that you won’t mind seeing them again, but there isn’t anything in the works right now like it wasn’t pre-planned to have a sequel, no.
