anybody have it yet? I don’t, just wondering what everybody
thinks. I got my hands on a machine and it just felt like XP with alot of eye candy.

Don’t have it yet, but for starters Internet Explorer 7.0 sucks.
I think my next machine will be a
MAC.
…I think IE7 is fine.
I don’t have
Vista yet, and I don’t intend to for a while. Too many reports of bugs, and it’s too expensive. It’s a good
thing I’m not an avid PC gamer, then.
Hint When it comes to software/electronic devices, try not to get
them immediately. That’s when they have the most bugs and are at their most expensive. A PlayStation 3 for ?425?
Pass. Lemme know when it drops below 300…
aZnCdn- Yeah! Macs are so cool! Did you hear that they can now run windows? So if you really needed to use a
program that’s not mac compatible, you can run it.
I might get a mac too.
Nah – I’ll go for a good ol’ Apple/Macintosh laptop computer when I (or my parents) have the money to buy
one. ![]()
RMS Oceanic - Indeed, I agree. You don’t know how many bugs a PC
can get from all those computer games. You should have been at my house when our old Windows 1998 finally
crashed… ![]()
That’s my whole problem. I wish there wasn’t a such thing as money some times! Macs are
sooo cool, and now that they can run Windows, there practical too.
But back
to Vista…
Macs have the cool factor,
but apparently they’re an absolute pain to use, as they’re so different from Windows. IMO, Macs are for
professionals. I’m gonna stick with my XP as an easy to use home computer. As for the Vista, it’s still pretty
new so not all of the bugs will have been sorted out, and apparently it’s not much of an improvement on the XP
anyway. I think it’d be a good idea just to wait a while before getting a new Windows.
Nope. I don’t have it, nor do I plan on getting it anytime
soon.
My boyfriend’s company got the beta version through last
year to get familiar with it so I managed to have a play. It really looks to me like Windows are trying to
imitate Macs to be honest. The graphics look good but a lot of the changes are dumb, like they’ve changed the
interface around, moved things so they’re ridiculously hard to find, renamed things so you can’t find what
you’re looking for…
Mell_O_Drama - Typical. Never try to copy someone else’s idea if you know that
your plan won’t be as good as theirs.
I’m not that crazy about Macintoshs either, to tell you the
truth. Cool they look, but hard they are to manipulate; perhaps it’s just because I’m not used to them. I’d
prefer the Windows versions as well…if they didn’t get so many viruses and bugs.
Lizardgirl and Mitch- Sorry, but macs are actually
easier to use. That’s their whole selling point. You guys just aren’t used to
them. Macs don’t just look cool, they’re logical machines. Apple actually invented the GUI interface, before
that, you had to type out cammands.
Gasduude - Yeah, exactly. That’s what I meant. They’re easier to use, but
they’re hard for me to manipulate because I’m so used to the Windows versions. (snigger)
Heheh – sorry
I didn’t make it clear.
I thought Xerox Parc came up with the GUI and Apple nicked it…?
XD
Nonetheless, I’m the same! My boss is a Mac fanatic (or a Macnatic, should you prefer) but whenever
I’m trying to do something on his machine, it takes me twice as long because I’m not used to the menu system
and I don’t know any of the keyboard shortcuts! Bah, I think Macs are great for people who aren’t too
comfortable with computers, and especially for newbies, but you can’t really customize them or build your own.
XD PCs for the win!
Mell O
Drama- Yes, Xerox did have the idea first, but Apple brought it to the masses. And I don’t agree
that Mac users are for Newbies or that people who use them are not comfortable with their computers. But oh well,
we’ll just have to Agree to Disagree! (After all their are whole other forums with nothing but this
conversation…24/7)
Anyway, back to Vista…(I said that before didn’t I? How did the Mac thing come up
anyway?
)
I wrote a little review of my time with Vista. It was just a quick use, but I think I saw
enough to make a judgement. ![]()
General- This is where I
was most disappointed. We?ve been waiting a long time for this operating system upgrade, but it still feels like
XP. Maybe it has a shiny new coating, but it still is XP. In fact, if you turn off this ?Aero? interface, it?s
basically indistinguishable from the operating system it replaces. The sidebar is neat, but Mac users have had
this functionality for a long time now.
5/10
Look- This
is one of Vista?s best area?s. The translucency, the feel, and the colors are a big step up from XP. They are,
frankly, fun to use, without being too cartoony. One thing I congratulate Microsoft on doing is keeping the
?Classic? look, so you can switch back to the plain old Win98/ME interface if you get tired of Vista?s sometimes
overwhelming graphics. I?m sure this is because of customer request, because no one really liked XP?s color
scheme. If you go into the ?Appearances? control panel, you find no way to go back to XP?s look. Only ?Windows
Premium?, ?Windows Basic? and a few other specialized looks are options. As for the ?feel? being Mac like, I was
actually surprised by Microsoft?s innovation in this area. A new Start Menu icon, window buttons, and a
completely redesigned toolbar are all quality features that leave no trace of being copied from anywhere.
9.5/10
Speed-
Despite some magazines calling Vista ?slow? and ?sluggish?, I found simple operations quite snappy. Moving videos
around, I was still able to see the video playing with no noticeable dropped frames The speed of your system will
be the main factor in this area. As this was just a quick look, I didn?t do any intensive, in-depth speed tests.
8/10
Reliability[/b
]- I wasn?t able to test this either, but from what I?ve heard, Vista is a lot more reliable than
XP.
8.5/10
Maintenance and
Control- Everyone is blasting this Universal Account Control (The ?security? feature that requires
a password for things like changing a system font). But otherwise, Vista appears to give more control over your
system than in previous versions of Windows. The control panel is completely done-over. It?s probably easier for
newer users, but older ones will find things in different places. Which can be very frustrating.
6/10
Overall-
If you really have to have the most up to date system, or have dough to spare, go for it. But if you?re like most
people, you won?t find anything to drastic in Microsoft?s big upgrade. Stick with XP.
7.5/10
If you have Vista, or
just used for a little bit like I did, feel free to tell us what you think. Trust me: The more the merrier!

Ya I saw that. I was at the apple store during the christmas holidays and almost
picked one up there. We’ll see… I just got my tax return back so I am trying decide what I want to do with
it.
Get one!
(You can kinda tell I love Macs, huh?) I promise, you will not be
dissapointed.
As a long time Win user, Windows
Vista is definitely not a one-of-a-kind Operating System.
It really is more of a remake of
XP in many ways.
And to say the most, this new system is a “Processing Hogger”. The new OS will
likely kill an old computer as early as from the late 1990s. But the newest systems out today will be able to
handle it nicely but that can be in question for recent ones.
Although I do like the graphics and new security
features for this Windows. Is even more secure then XP, and 98/2000 combined. And the firewall has its built-in
advanced service and port configuration program as well which many Internet computer security-holics will
like.
But I do see its not much of a match for Macintosh and Lix. Since it really did not surprise many of
their users at all at the release of Vista earlier this year.
And am pretty sure not many major companies out
there in the world will latch onto this OS for very long in terms of permanent use.
DD - Yeah, I was kinda disapointed too! It’s just XP
with more eye-candy! That’s actually what Vista was originally planned as: a simple, juicy, uprade to XP!
![]()
Yep, Bill Gates probably
was in it mainly for money.
How else would he want to make something like this out of pure something from
previous work?
I had feeling that it was likely going to be remake out of XP all along when I first heard
about Vista early last year.
But I have to say, security things on this OS are even better then they were on
XP.
But meh, want to see how strong this ones is for the hackers to break into this new OS which should take
their minds off more from XP on their list of hacking things to do, and concentrate more on attacking this new
one now ![]()
