Woody's "Inactive" Face

So, in the movies, when the humans are around, Woody’s face generally stays a closed-mouth smile. Not like an elated smile, but certainly not anything of negative emotion. It does change a couple of times, but generally he always has the same face (which makes me wonder if every time he turns dormant for a human, does he control what his face will look like? Feel free to speculate!).

But anyways, is anyone mad that the TS collection woody has a different face? I was counting on it being an exact replica. The only reason I would see for changing the face is to make it more attractive to children, but I think it would look great anyways. Plus, TS Collection is mainly aimed at collectors anyways, they have another version of Woody they can do whatever they want to. I don’t know, I was just mad…but I’ll probably end up getting him anyway.

I know at the very beginning of the 1st Toy Story when Andy is playing with Woody that you can see his face changing expressions, and I think that was done intentionally just to give a hint to the audience before the big reveal that the toys actually come to life.

Yes, I also would question the new Woody toy being an exact replica when it has a different expression, but I’m fine with it anyway since it’s still on-model. It’s also great to finally see the Woody’s Roundup box for Woody just like the one for the Prospector.

Have you seen the early prototype that did have the right mouth?

Yep, I did. Not exactly a smile like in the film, but more of a serious look. They may have thought he would look more appealing to kids if he had an open mouth smile than a closed mouth, though I would like it either way.

No, I’ve never seen the early prototype, very interesting. Yet, it is till not accurate. I expect it to be like as seen when Andy’s holding him in this: youtube.com/watch?v=6cIeT_AS … re=related

And, as I said, they already have the cheaper version that parents would buy their kids anyways, while the Collection version is probably bought more by collectors.

The mouth was accurate, it was just the eyes, they needed to have him look straight at you, and not have his lids showing.

The only problem with the mouth was a lack of paint I think.

I actuly don’t mnd his face since they said it’s film accurate they just didn’t say accurate at which time in the movie. I think its supposed to be hes alive.

Newbie here, I think I’ve gone through several Woody dolls, searching for one that (was never produced) had a closed mouth. Short of hacking apart one (which I’ve done a few times), I could never get one with the right facial expression. Oh well, here’s holding out for one with a closed mouth someday -Omar

This Woody even had the right hands. I’m guessing it was a mock-up made by Thinkway, but changed to reflect Pixar’s digital data.

Anyways, here’s a pic from Toy Story 2 (this was before the rosy cheeks were added, so that’s the only think that keeps it from being perfect).
