In a matter of hours, my host country Australia will clash against Germany in one epic face-off! Go Socceroos!
Kinda disappointed Singapore and Malaysia didn’t get in (especially the former, since they actually had an ambitious World Cup 2010 plan which was scrapped a few years ago).
What an embarassment. The worst part was the skipper actually talked up the Germans pre-match, so the Socceroos went in with a negative mindset, not to mention with a confusing formation. They’ve lost before they even started. Utter humiliation.
I saw the Dutch score the second goal just five minutes ago. No doubt some Dutch members here would be feeling swell now.
I would be supporting Germany though I am not from Germany. In fact, I had nothing to do with the Germans!
Blame my childhood.
For yesterday’s match, it’s a hard decision for me, I really like OZ, but I’ve been supporting Die Mannschaft* for years!
The Socceroos had a great start and has made the Germans petrified by the early try. But somehow their performance are so poor after Germany;s 2nd goal. I’m not sure it caused by poor tactical or the team’s mentalities.
And I’m sure my fellow Aussies will questioned the straight red card for Tim Cahill. I’m shocked!
Normally I’m not a big sports fan, but this year, my friends got me into it. I’m supporting England, Germany, and Australia. Mostly England. I had high hopes for the socceroos, but…well, you know. They’d need a miracle to advance now. My favorite indiviual players are Steven Gerrard (England) and <3 Lionel Messi <3 (Argentina).
My brother was lamenting this is the craziest World Cup ever. The Socceroos’ hopes are rapidly dwindling, as are Italy (who my bro supports) and France’s poor performances. Japan and North Korea are surprise winners, though my bro is punting on Spain being the dark horse. I’m too tired to keep up anymore, my bro says anyone who bets for this World Cup would surely lose a lot of money due to sheer unpredictability of things!
Two of the teams I’m rooting for are doing okay, but not as well as everyone expected them to do. Italy isn’t doing so great either I expected them to own Paraguay, and New Zealand, but they had to come from behind to tie in both games. Ah well, unpredictability makes it more interesting
So, it’s Friday, 9 something in the morning here and Japan has WC fever. We beat Denmark 3-1 5:30 this morning. We play next Tuesday night, Japan time, against Paraguay in the knock-out round.
Can’t believe USA were knocked out of the WC by Ghana yesterday I feel sorry for all you America supporters.
Mind you, it could be the same for me in a few hours. England are now playing against Germany. It’s going to be a tough game, I just hope it doesn’t go to penalties or else I won’t watch!
I was rooting for England and Germany equally…I wish the game had been closer, but oh well. Both teams played pretty well. Germany plays Argentina next Saturday, I’m really excited for that match! Once again, I like both teams equally, so I’ll be happy no matter the outcome.
England were awful! Their defense was crap. They weren’t passing the ball to each other enough. That’s why they were hammered 4-1! Terrible performance.
So the Americans, Brits, Aussies, French and Italians are out for the count… my sis supports Brazil, so maybe they stand a chance.
It’s really interesting that what used to be former powerhouses are now losing to ‘less-renowned’ players from developing countries, something I think is not only reflective in football but in the real-world as well… The rise and fall of empires.
I’ll have to take your word for that, Ami. I don’t know much about the strategies and fine points of soccer, I just watch to see who wins
I’m watching the Netherlands vs. Slovakia game right now, 1-0 Netherlands so far. I know this has been brought up multiple times (on other websites at least) but is anyone else annoyed by those vuvuzelas?
