Um … call me crazy, but … isn’t Pixar already 3D?

Oh, wait, do you mean IMAX 3D?

I’m confused.

Actualy, Knick Knack was shot in 3D and presented in Disney Digital 3D with TNBC so…
They already did. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think what MB1000 means is 3D as in wearing those cool glasses and everything jumping at you from out of the screen type 3D. And as for whether Pixar should do it…Well, that’s a difficult one to say. On the one hand, it is a bit of a gimmick and I’d rather Pixar focus on story than on special effects. On the other hand, it seems as though if they don’t, they’re going to be accused of being ‘behind the times’, as several animation companies, most notably Dreamworks, have already practically announced that most, if not all, of their future films will be presented in 3D.

Pixar may not be all about making money, but sometimes decisions do have to be made based on what makes business sense, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Pixar does have to include 3D showings of their future films.

Okay, thanks lizardgirl. Now that that’s cleared up … eep, no. Pixar cares only for story, not for wowing people with effects. Their stories deliver just fine on an ordinary screen. Besides, I heard 3D movies with the glasses don’t do much anyways. So it’s a pointless waste of 3 extra bucks or whatever the heck it costs. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, but I just had to say, Pixar doesn’t ONLY care about story! They prioritize it and THEN when it’s perfect they do the grand effects, that’s why Pixars movies look better and better, they arent only story. But, don’t get me wrong, if Pixar went 3D it would just be corny a 3D computer animated movie in 3D that’s just pushing it, you would miss all the details in my opinion.

Sorry about that- I meant to say they put story first, and I myself think story is a key element. I love Pixar for their stories, and they’re fine without an in-your-face 3D presentation.

It was presented with TNBC? Urgh, I didn’t see it when I went. That would’ve been awesome!

I would be open for it, but I voted no. Pixar Animations are already 3D. Making them even more 3D would seemingly break some boarder between the audience and screen, you all kinda get what I’m saying?

Well in theory they’re already in 3D…

Understanding the process of how Disney makes films into 3D it would actually be quite simple (well - simple from an overall technical standpoint) to go back into any of the Pixar films and redo them in a 3d format on the computer. This is true of anything that is filmed in a 3d plane. So I would be very open to 3d showings of their films as long as there were certain rules that were followed.

  1. 3D showings are special releases and only in addition to the standard release.

  2. Films are shot for a standard format and not altered to give a better 3D effect.

Number 2 is a big one for me because if you ever watch a film that’s specifically made for 3D then the directors use some very odd angles angles and shots to make a film more stunning for 3D but it feels awkward - especially when you watch it in a non-3D format.

Also, you must remember that things don’t always work in 3D like if part of someone’s body is out of frame but that person is in 3D - it feels really weird that you can’t see all of it unlike on a 2D screen where that’s a very normal occurrence. Meet the Robinsons is a good example of the director taking into account the 3D and not letting 3D objects go out of frame but at the same time not doing awkward angles and such just for the sake of 3D so it holds up in 2D as well. Still, I wouldn’t want Pixar to make any consessions just to accomodate 3d but I’d still like to see it in that format just for the experience.

I would like just once to be able to see the last four films, Nemo, Incredibles, Cars, and Ratatouille on an IMAX screen and in 3D (There you have the added advantage that the screen is floor to ceiling so you account for the cut off edges. ) I believe that experience - seeing every detail, with full sound, would really make you feel like you’re right in it.

TSS, that’s sorta the DEFINITION of 3D. :stuck_out_tongue:

I mean 3D animation in 3D would be a little mind spinning wouldn’t it?

Why? 3D animation is just trying to make it look like Live Action. It imitates real life. Hardly mind spinning. Look at Beowulf, watching at the IMAX in 3D is the way to go apparently.

Oh yeah, I forgot for a second that Beowulf was presented in 3-D. Wasn’t that an advanced version of 3-D? Anyway, I voted yes completely. The potential is unbelievable, and Dash is right, the 3-D releases are in addition to the original theatrical release. Take The Nightmare Before Christmas for example : This October was the second 3-D re-release and that only adds to the lifetime box-office totals : boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa … istmas.htm

So, yeah, I’m all for Pixar features presented in 3-D in the near future, paticularly if it was the same advanced version of 3-D that was presented with Beowulf .

Beowulf was incredible, but there were instances of what Dash mentioned- the tendancy to shoot strange, awkward angles just to make the 3D seem more 3D. It was as though they were trying too hard. But yes, if Pixar have standard releases of their films as well as 3D showings, it should work well.

nah. At least, I never thought about it. I guess I wouldnt object if they did but I dont think they need to.

I doubt that pixar will do a true 3D movie any time soon.
But if any of you guys and gals want to watch any Pixar movie in true 3D right now. Your going have to spend some money. For around $100 you can get this: razor3donline.com/converter.html . It works with any dvd player, VCR, Cable TV, ect… . But with that you can see a Pixar Movie in true 3D.
I might buy one some day but I’m fine playing my DVD’s, VHS’s, and Wii Games just the way they are right now.
