I try to ignore the Synlet subculture, because it’s kind of disgusting, and I don’t want to hurt feelings. BTW, where is Arkie? I miss her. She was cool.
yeah. I’ve had some people that try to explain it to me. After a while, i’ve kind of understood it, so when I start to read synlets again, I can feel a little more comfortable about it.
For me personally IV, I actually like it when I know i’m driving people nuts. Part of that means i’m either doing my job, or the other person gets frustrated easily. And they are so funny when they overact. i guess it’s just the people i hang out with.
Well,I understand where you’re comming from , but I can see why it might be taken the wrong way given, most if not all of the members on here are shippers of some kind…
SoA and EJE: Aw… you are missing out on a wonderful aspect of the fandom experience! Some fanfics are really good, the first one I enjoyed was from Nevuela, a prolific Cars writer (although now she’s dabbling in other fandoms). ‘Cruising Down Love Boulevard’, you can find it on her dA or Fanfiction.net. Then I read a couple of Bolt fanfics (fans couldn’t resist pairing Bolt and Mittens, because obviously a guy can’t be just friends with a girl right? Especially if they’re a dog and a cat. ), before reading some great ones by TSS, little_chef, JSWeC and Arkie. None of which have been continued and have been gestating for eternity, BTW. Right now I’m following an excellent Rango fanfic by RogueDraken on dA and I have a couple planned in my pipeline.
It’s really one of those things you gotta try once in your life and (unless you’re a story purist) has little risk beyond time investment. But reading about it is not so much as fun as writing!
And I love fanpairings as long as they’re not slash or bestiality. So, like Mater and Sally is perfectly fine with me (if anyone is a Lightning and Sally purist, please don’t take offense, it is merely my personal opinion). There was an excellent fanfic I read a while ago which described Sally and Mater’s kiss (which was pretty stupid actually, Sally just did that to annoy Lightning who was flirting with one of the Miata twins) that ended up being a declaration of their long gestating romantic tension. There are signs, like Mater greeting Sally with a “Miss Sally”, and her defense of Mater when Lightning flippantly promised him the helicopter ride, etc.
Synlet is pushing the inappropriate age gap a bit, but if Violet was grown-up and a legal adult, it could work in a ‘role-reversal’ kind of way like Megamind.
Marlin and Dory, there’s always potential there, although Mr Stanton was pretty adamant about it being purely platonic.
Hiccup and Ruffnut, totally. Ruffnut expressed her crush on Hiccup, although he eventually went for the ‘mean chick’ who bullied him throughout the entire movie only to do an about-turn in time for the third act.
Lightning and Doc, nuh-uh. Their relationship was nothing more than a father-son figure (like Gibbs and Abby in NCIS), and there was nothing that indicated they had anything more than a mutual-respect friendship.
Hiccup and Toothless, nuh-uh. Boy and his pet, nothing more. Besides, as sentient as Toothless is, the species gap is too wide for it to not be potentially offensive, which is why a few people try to humanise Toothless. Unfortunately, that makes it weirder.
You get the drift. Everyone has their level of tolerances. Some people dig yaoi fanfiction. Others can’t bear to see anything other than the canon OTP. I think we should be able to understand and respect other people’s preferences, while still being firm and convicted in our own opinions, which is not a really hard thing to do.
But yeah, I agree that there are some fanfics and fan pairings I can barely fathom or comprehend, but it doesn’t bug me too much since it is just a movie. Heck, it’s not even that, it’s just a fanfiction.
…
You know what really grinds my gears? Spambots. Thumbs up if you agree.
