You know what really grinds my gears?

My best friend studied in a German school, and she currently lives there.

The teaching of what happened in WWII is difficult, but they take it very seriously. AS e-j-e said, if we ignore our past, those bad moments can happen again. Education is the only weapon against that, and Germans are doing it quite well. They even left some of the ruins in the cities so that people can remember the costs of war.

So they do teach about it? Yes, that must be difficult. I suppose we have bad things our country has done as well and we still learn about that so it’s no excuse to be ignored. You are right though, education about it is so necessary and we should never forget those types of things that happened.

I would love to study WWII in Germany, if I could afford it, and speak the language. I’ve got a friend who actually does plan to study abroad in Germany sometime within the next four years, and so after that, I may just have to travel up there with her. Studying world events, in general, is very important to our society, and people just blow it off.

Heh, the ignorance due to people’s lack of taking education seriously makes me mad.

Heehee, thanks! I loves Canada. And The Great White North is what I call it! It’s a reference to a comedy act from the 1980s about two Canadian sterotypes.

And Mohawk? That’s crazy cool!

As for teaching of Hitler. I’d assume it’s an important part of their Curriclum. Not just because they live in Germany. Since Hitler was a part of a World War, most countries around the world study it. It’d be foolish not too, as I said before history repeats itself. There’s a member on these boards from Germany, Witch of Night. She could help you, but she hasn’t been around in a couple months.

And I’m happy you share my sentiments little_chef! And lots of people don’t think history is interesting. I think it’s FACINATING. But then again, lots of history classes in school take the fun out of it, go over basics and dates, and clean out the more, erm, risque parts of it!

 I didn’t know you liked Canada so much! On behalf of myself and my fellow Canadians, merci! I would love to see that comedy act. Mohawk is pretty cool but it’s also super difficult to learn from what I’ve heard. I’m curious though…

I didn’t know history had “risque” parts. 8D My school must be doing a good job of cleaning out those parts. Actually, there was this one time that we watched a part of “Hope and Glory”…

It’s too bad are country’s alway’s don’t get along.

What do you mean? Which countries?

this is starting to become “you know what really doesn’t grind my gears?”

USA and Canada.

Hahaha, it is isn’t it?

Hmmm, yes I know. I think we’ve got a pretty good relationship though.

What grinds my gears is people on online games who break the rules and do certain things to ruin other people’s fun. You’ll see what I mean if you read my rant on the Current Mood thread…

that grinds my gears too.

Same–kinda. I also hate people who immediately bash a movie before seeing it.

What grinds my gears is research projects. I can’t find a book for my topic. :frowning:

Hahaha, not really! Think about it. How many wars have we fought against each other? We have the longest unprotected border in the world, and no invasions on either side (unless you take in mind the British troupes entering the US to burn the Washington in the War of 1812, threw Canada. And the two countries are allies. On a diplomatic side, we’re quite good friends, mostly do to our similarities.

MissCarrera: And yes. History is made up of people. People like you and me, people who you know. And humans are well known for their desires, shortcomings, and greeds.

I think we learn negative numbers in 4th or 5th. Yeah, our math and sciences are low because honestly our care from students (and teachers as well) are low. I’ve always understood math and science fairly easily, but there are some kids who will complain about it until the world ends.

And I have watched Waiting for Superman, rented it from work one afternoon. It is a little biased, but not much, or I share the same views. I’m fortunate enough to be in a really great program in a really great district, but I’ve seen what’s around us too, and it’s sickening. The failing schools they showed on the documentary are our downtown schools as well. Texas has the highest drop-out rate in the country as well, and it sickens me.

I think, if more respect were given to our education system, I would become a teacher, and quickly too. Even my teachers have told me I would be a great teacher, but I just know there’s more bad schools than good schools, and that really turns me down because although I love teaching, it’s really frustrating to teach someone who won’t learn, just as frustrating to want to learn and has a teacher who doesn’t teach.

And I know! It’s heartbreaking, especially since I’ve been there too. For high school, the junior high students have the chance to enter the T-STEM (Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program that’s offered at the high school. They picked in November and I wasn’t chosen. It wasn’t until nearly two days until school let out, that after the 5th or 6th round of lottery draws that I was accepted into the program. But not being picked, that’s such an awful feeling.

All these exploding threads with people trying to be cute, but in actuality just ending up plain annoying, is really lame. I think more threads will disappear. :frowning:

I hope not.

Me too. I cam back, like a day later, and the member thread, my favorite thread, was gone!!! Was it my fault? Why did it happen? Was it because I said who were my friends? I’m confused. :`-(

Another thing that grinds my gears is 90% of documenteries. They’re all so one sided. That’s why I avoid watching them, because I don’t want to be misled. Like look Food, Inc. Everyone raves about it so much. I have an agricultural background, and most of the stuff they were saying were BS.

As for animal rights videos and documenteries. Most of the videos they show of the animals being slaughtered inhumanely are 1) from foreign countries or 2) Outdated by at least 10 years. And it gives a bad view to the agriculture industry.
