NOt a lot of things have been annoying me as of late. However, I’ve been annoying myself. Just recently was my birthday. I am annoyed with myself for not telling my friends and family what I want and therefore, I have a lot of presents on delay because of my procrastination.
Today I’m very angry because a lot of eateries in my area are closed on Monday. This wasn’t a problem a few years ago when I first arrived here, but for some reason, they’ve now decided to take two days from the week off. I understand that a work-life balance all that is important, but why on Earth would you not want to do business on a weekday? In Malaysia or Singapore, you could go out for supper as late as 11 pm any day of the week. Or morning breakfast, or even afternoon tea. Here, the shops are only open during ‘lunch’ and ‘dinner’ hours, probably due to the strong labour laws and demanding unions. This is utterly ridiculous.
I’m also filled with dread because one of my interviewees gave me a very terse reply saying that I gave her too short a notice (I sent her an email requesting an interview on Thursday, and the assignment is due tomorrow) and that she won’t be answering my questions by email either. I’m really at a loss as to how I’m gonna finish this last hurdle now. ![]()
I’m not very easily angered. But I do get annoyed at things. An example of a late situation is people criticizing my stand on the use of no foul language in anything period. Even acting. And people sit there and tell me: “it’s weak”
Well it’s better than showing that you are morally irresponsible.
I’m sorry to hear that Andre!
Well, thanks for your empathy, EJE. If it’s any consolation, I managed to dunk it in (it’s an online submission) 1 minute after the deadline (at midnight, when it was listed as due at 11:59 pm). It was just like my last assignment, my computer gave out on me just when I was ready to submit. Murphy’s Law, I guess. I’m so bummed, it was such an anticlimatic end, though I’m glad I’m done with my assignments now. ![]()
Draco in Leather Pants-ing, (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M … atherPants) especially since its been done on this very site (Randell, anyone?). Now, I’m fine with liking a villain and finding them cool and all; well written villains can be a lot of fun to watch. However, excusing their actions as “justified” or “not really their fault” when they are just not/have given no evidence to show them to be is really, really annoying, even more so if you demonize the protagonists to make it seem as if THEY are the ones at fault for taking down this person. It gets even worse when fangirls basically say “Well, they killed a bunch of people, tortured the hero, abused their girlfriend, and kicked a puppy, but OMG THEY ARE SOOO HOT I WISH THEY WERE REAL. 'CAUSE THEY WOULD LOVE ME. AND I WOULD CHANGE THEM.” Case in point: The Joker. Hey, I love him as an awesome villain too, but really girls, watch the episode Mad Love. Harley Quinn’s backstory ring any bells?
[spoil]For those unaware, Harley Quinn, the Joker’s blindingly in love sidekick/girlfriend whom he abuses and almost kills constantly, actually started out as his doctor at Arkham Asylum. Through their therapy sessions, he uses fake stories of an abusive childhood to gain her sympathy and eventually her love, to the point where she starts blaming all his issues on Batman, thinking that if she just got rid of him, they could be happy. Its when she sees Batman bring in a battered escaped Joker to Arkham that she goes wacko, dons the costume and helps him break out. Watch the episode; its great, especially the ending.[/spoil]
Another example: The Phantom of the Opera.
When people try to constantly turn things on you, it grinds my gears.
I agree entirely. I’m very tired of everyone, especially some of us here, villifying the protagonists in…certain movies just because the villain is appearently “Awesome”(which never occurred to me for one.).
I like some villains, but as villains, because they’re evil. I find it terribly annoying when people irrationally defend the villains, particularly Syndrome. Lots of fandoms drive me nuts, but to me, this might just be the second most annoying one.
People who come into my work 10 minutes before we are suppose to close.
Oh my God, I forgot about Syndrome. TVTropes actually mentioned him because of all the DILP-ing he gets. Yes, his backstory was sympathetic. Yes, Mr. Incredible is a tad prejudiced against non-supers. Yes, its kind of cool he was going to sell his inventions. No, that does NOT excuse the fact that he brutally killed countless heroes just to get to Mr. Incredible, gleefully shot down a plane with TWO CHILDREN aboard, readily “gambled” the life of his associate just to prove a point, and launched a robot attack that would kill God-knows how many people just so he could play hero. No, he should NOT enter a relationship with the fourteen year old girl he tried to kill, no matter how attractive the self-insert Mary-Sue…I mean Violet fic author finds him.
You like him as a villain? Fine, I do too. But don’t you dare tell me it was “all the Incredibles fault” and Syndrome was just a discriminated-against victim, because I can turn you to plenty of superhero sidekicks I know who had much worse blows given to them and DIDN’T turn into a murderous
psychopath.
I’ve seen a similar phenomenon with Randall. But those are thing I’ve only seen in this site.
It grinds my gears when you’re done in the bathroom, then you only just discover that there’s no toilet paper left.
Another thing is when you leave a certain object somewhere, then you can’t find it as if it’s disappeared off the face of the earth.

Yes. This started with Randall; it was the first one she mentioned. I hate both occurrances, but I hate the Syndrome fandom much MUCH much worse. Now, people like [b:95dnnx68]Arkie[/b:95dnnx68], [b:95dnnx68]Nexas[/b:95dnnx68] and [b:95dnnx68]mentalguru[/b:95dnnx68] seem very sensible and not insane to me on these things. I think most of the crazy Syndrome lovers are on DeviantArt, and there is only really one Randall fan who angers me and seems irrational ans nuts.

EXACTLY
I like Syndrome. He’s cool, and slightly sympathetic. But killing dozens of people, and attempting to kill a non-super women and under age minors is not okay. Especially if it’s because one guy made you mad. One guy made you mad, so you must kill everyone like him and even his innocent, minor children
Wow, that’s cool.
Thank you for the shout-out IV ![]()
You’re welcome. That chat we had a few weeks ago was a real relief, and I just wanted you and the other said people to know I am not annoyed by them. Actually, I’m only driven crazy by the most intense, annoying, brain-beating cases. Everyone has a fandom. Some people are just crazy.

[/quote:3pje6n4l] I think Lewis Lovhaug (Linkara) said it best when he said "There is a difference between having a sympathetic back story and actually BEING sympathetic."
Agreed. I swear my entire pencil case just vanished into thin air… ![]()
That’s awesome!
I love that quote. What is Linkara?
What really bugs me is this whole “DC comics reboot” crap. For those unaware, DC is planning on, or so they say, rebooting their entire universe and starting off with new #1s and “hipper, more modern” versions of their characters. Now, this is obviously just a ploy to get readers, and I am not buying for one second that it is going to be nearly as big as they claim it to be (DC is infamous for doing this kind of thing). However, don’t know what insults me more: The possibility that this is true and some of my favorite couples in the world (Lois Lane and Superman, for instance, who are being deemed “too boring” for the hideous crime of getting married and changing their precious status quo, are possibly being broken up, or at least restarted in a place before their relationship. It is also rumored that they are setting up Wonder Woman and Supes. Yeah, that’ll last five minutes before they go right back to Lois) could be split for no real reason, some of my favorite characters might lose 20 years of character development, and a basic middle finger will be given to the fans of said characters. Because really, I highly doubt any up in sales will last very long–people will pick it up, get bored, and move on, like they always do when DC makes a desperate media spectacle.
Or, if what I think will happen does indeed happen, hardly anything will change, enforcing DC’s long belief that a couple costume tweaks will fool us into thinking the world is changing, couples will be broken up just to get back together again (for the most part, American comics are terrified of the new. This can be a good (keeping the spirits of the original characters, respecting the historical icons that are their pairings) and bad (retconning any changes made because its not like comics were when they were kids, goddangit!))if they actually break them up at all, and DC’s continuity will then be left even more convoluted then it already is, which will just alienate new and old readers, which means sales will drop, which will lead them to do something like this again and auuuugh…
Or they will do the other thing I expect them to and just make it an alternate timeline, keeping the one they have right now just the way it is.
Really, this can work out well if they did it intelligently, erasing their crazy and admittedly confusing continuity and starting from scratch. Thing is…I don’t really trust them to. DC, I am admittedly the exact type of “new reader” you want. I’m a 15-year-old girl will a few extra bucks in cash who, at first glace, would probably not seem the type to read comics. And ya know what? I didn’t get into comics because of some stupid media hysteria, I got in because a cute, funny guy in a nice hat got me interested in your characters and helped me jump in right at Supergirl #64, my first single-issue comic book. THAT is how you get new readers.
^Incredigirl: THAT, m-dear, is Linkara, the greatest reviewer of bad comics of all time. Here’s a good example of an awesome episode:

Wow, this was WAAAAY longer then I meant it to be.
Oh, okay. Thanks! ![]()
