I think that 6:30PM Eastern is when we start the conference call and we need to finish the commentary by 7:30-7:45PM Eastern.
Edit: I actually don’t want to go first in the introductions. Whoever goes first will set an example that others may unconsciously imitate.
In addition to the introductions, we may also want to welcome the viewer to the commentary and explain what we’re doing. We can decide who will do that when we’re on Skype, when we can hear who’s best at speaking.
Also, for those of you with new headphones or headsets, you may not know that they have a break-in period. If you play music on them at moderate listening levels for several hours (you could let them sit on your desk while you sleep), you could find that they sound a lot better. I don’t think that the microphones have a break-in period.
Only a few more days to go now! This is so nerve-wracking! But exciting.
Ok, we’ll just have to deal with that if that happens. Is it a good idea to be downloading something at the same time of doing Skype?
It was my understanding that we have already adjusted to the extra time it will take to get things sorted out, by extending the time to about an hour. A113 thougt it would only take 15 mins, but I said that we should always plan for more time than we need to just in case. I’ll probably log on 10 - 15 mins before start time, if you want, but if we want everyone to do this, we have to make it official and adjust the set times again, just so it’s clear.
Plus, I’ll be doing it on a Saturday morning at 8am - you gotta give me some time to sleep in!
Good idea. I second qxgnxamy’s suggestion of working this out once we are on Skype, but if you think this will eat into our recording time, we can just say to do it by alphabetical order.
That’s interesting. I might do that with my headset before the commentary – let it “stretch its legs” a bit.
Thanks for the tip!
All right. Gotcha. Shouldn’t be a problem.
rachel - My thoughts exactly. I really am starting to get the butterflies…
Oh, I see. Well, I wouldn’t everyone to have to readjust their time settings, so I guess we’ll just be starting at the original, pre-appointed time then (6:30 PM, EST).
Ha-ha! Oh no, I wouldn’t want to interrupt your sleep in period. Forget that I ever suggested starting early. Heheh.
I’m also with qxgnxamy on sorting out who shall begin the introductions when we’re all logged in on Skype. Since he mentioned that he preferred someone else (besides himself) go first, we’ll simply figure out the details when the time comes.
So is everyone ok with the newish times I posted a few days ago? We wouldn’t want anyone logging onto to Skype too late and miss the conference… If we were going to introduce ourselves in alphabetical order it would be like this:
A113
lizardgirl
M-O
Mitch
qxgnxamy
rachelcakes1985
The StarSwordsman
I think it’s correct…
qxgnxamy - Nice avatar. Thanks for the advice. I won’t download anything at the same time just in case it limits the Skype connection.
Mitch - Well, I’m usually early with things so I’ll be logging on 10 mins beforehand, but if others don’t do this, it’s no big deal. Just make sure you’re logged on by the appointed time, people.
Nah, it’s ok. I’ll probably wake myself up early anyway, since I know I have to do this thing. Heh.
Well, if you see my previous post, we are going to introduce ourselves in the order of our screen names, but you can say or use your real name, if you want. We’ll sort it out on Skype, though.
All right, everyone. Here’s my problem. My working computer is still being repaired, but i should get it back any day now, if they’ve done their job. If it’s not ready by then, i’ll have to use this somewhat slow computer, which might not work too well.
Do i have to download the software if i create an account? I’d like to create my account now, and download the software later.
A113 - I’ve looked through Skype’s website and it doesn’t look like it’s possible to create an account there. I think that using the software is the only way to create an account.
Guess I came upon this thread too late. Never mind, I’ll work up the courage to voice my opinions in another commentary. Besides, I’ll be working overtime on my Wall-E parody videos (in addition to my usual schoolwork) over the weekend, so no dice for me this time anyway.
Good luck to our intrepid pioneers! Can’t wait to hear how you guys sound in real-life.
rachel - I’m fine with the time(s), and the order in which we introduce ourselves as well. Shouldn’t be a problem.
Heheh. All right then. I always make it a point to be punctual, so you can count on me being early, if not ridiculously early.
qxgnxamy - I agree with rachel: I’m lovin’ that avatar. The artwork in that book in incredible…
Just to let you know, the computer I shall use to commentate on recently received a potentially deadly bout of viruses. My mom is working on fixing the problem right now, so everything should be fine by the end of this week. That aside, a constant shower of pop-ups is the only obtrusive thing at the moment – it doesn’t impair the Skype program I’ve installed, so I should still be able to participate in the commentary with you guys without any problems. If anything pops up on the computer I’m using while the session is in progress I’ll just delete it.
Again, I don’t think that I’ll have a problem, but if I suddenly become disconnected from the session then, well, you’ll know why. (heh)
thedriveintheatre - I hope that you’ll be able to participate in the next commentary/session!
Yay, I can’t believe it’s happening so soon! I can’t wait! My only worry is that I won’t have anything remotely useful to say. And that I’ll sound stupid. But that’s what practises are for, right?
lizardgirl - If you’d like me to send you some of the Your Friend the Rat-related notes that I’ve copied down (via PM), then I’d be more than happy to do so.
Mitch - Thanks. I’m glad you like it. About your computer: You’ve got to be able to see this clock. If you keep getting popups in one browser, perhaps you could try another browser?
lizardgirl - I’m worried about not having much to say too. I’ll definitely have more to say about Ratatouille.
qxgnxamy- I’m pleased someone else feels the same! Well, perhaps we’ll get into the flow of things as the short film plays, get a rapport going between everyone.
Mmm, I think that the problem is actually much deeper than that, regardless of varying browsers, unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
As for the link you provided, I don’t think I’ll have a problem keeping that up during the commentary, unless the internet suddenly shuts down or something. Hopefully, that won’t happen. (heh)
