Your Friend the Rat

That was funny! xD

I have to work at Pixar now…or the Cartoon Art Museum. xD

I don’t work at the Cartoon Art Museum, I’m just a member on the mailing list. I think that’s pretty much what it is… My parents signed me up as kind of a graduation gift. The website is http://www.cartoonart.com, in case you’re curious, though.

I’m not sure if any of you guys noticed this during the short, but…

Throughout the Pixar Animation Studios short film, “Your Friend the Rat”, the scene sporadically cuts back to the classroom (where Remy and Emile are standing/narrating) about three or four times. Each time we cut back to this scene/shot, you’ll notice that the apple in the back of the classroom (behind Remy and Emile) will have been eaten a little bit more. Obviously, Emile must have worked on this tantalizing morsel in an attempt to satisfy his hunger.

Mitch, yes I noticed that.
Besides the apple, other things in the background change such as the map and the stamp.

Really? Dude, I need to…oh, no. I am saying “dude” now! What has this site done to me!!! :astonished: LOL…anyway, I seriously need to watch Your Friend the Rat much, much, much more often.

A very kind friend in the US sent me for christmas (and arrived today) Cars and Rat on DVD. Rat’s not due out till later this month here, so I watched all the special features including Your The Friend Rat.

With Mitch’s help, I spotted those little differences, as well as everything else others pointed out. One of my favourite scenes is the Rats with the Beatles.

Cool. I’m glad that some of you guys spotted it. Pixar always takes the time to insert even the simplist of the things into their productions, no matter how insignificant they may seem. It’s awesome…

bawpcwpn - Wow, how awesome! How blessed and cool is that?

The “Beatles” scene was genious. Too bad it only lasted half a milisecond…

There’s even a “Little Golden Book” version of “Your Friend the Rat”:

lolzors!

WOW! I had a billion of those books. Ahh, memories… <3

 And now parents will get mad at the book company because their toddler started bawling and telling them rats are nice through tears when a rat trap is needed to catch one.

LOL, just kidding. I had a ton of those books as well when I was a kid. <3

remy - Ha-ha! How awesome! That sure brings back memories. I’ve gotta get one of those…

Thanks for the link.

P.S. Is it all right if I call you “remy”?

just RMSH, ok?

Your Friend the Rat seemed more like a mini-documentary than an animated short film, but it was great nonetheless. (Being from Canada, I found the whole “Alberta is rat-free” bit rather hilarious).

This short film is yet another testament to Pixar’s flexibility. A lot of movie studios are conflicted as to whether they should move on to something new or continue doing what they’re doing. For Pixar, either option works, because they understand that whatever choice they make, the important thing is making the best out of that choice.

The thing about Alberta being rat-free is tremendously hard for me to believe, because:
-If all countries/states/provinces dislike non-domesticated rats, then why is Alberta the only place that bothered to keep rats out?
-It is difficult enough already to keep terrorists out of NYC, let alone prohibiting rats from inhabiting a Canadian province. Is it even possible?

remy_must_save_henri- Apparently it is possible.
From Wikipedia (there’s a source on this!!):

Notes:
• Why was Alberta one of the only places to stand up to the rat problem if everyone else hates them, is pretty obvious. Because the government took action. For example, everyone hates getting F’s, but not everyone does something about their grades.
• Rats and terrorist (although commonly associated) are not controlled the same way.

I don’t care: DEATH TO WIKIPEDIA! :smiling_imp:

Here’s some trustworthy text from the link Martin provided us:

Check out that page, instead of stupid, lying, wiki Wikipedia.

Sorry A113, but I happen to be a diehard Wikipedia supporter, thus I like martini833’s source. Everyone has their opinions.

I found some additional little in-jokes in this one…some ppl may have caught them already, but they’re fun all the same.

The first one I caught was an obvious characterture of Peter Sohn.

See 'im to the right?
The second one I didn’t catch until a couple of days ago, but…

Anyone recognize the little guy driving the rocket?

Again, don’t know if anyone’s noticed these, but it’s still fun.

If I’m not mistaken, the WALL-E one was mentioned before, but I didn’t ever recognize the other one :stuck_out_tongue: Do you know if it was actually supposed to be him, or are you just guessing?

Although I’m not 100% sure if it’s supposed to be Sohn, the caricature looks just like him. I guess it’s likely since he’s had a cameo in Finding Nemo as a tiki, and of course he voices Emile.
