Your Friend the Rat

That’s the title to Pixar newest short film.

We’ll be able to see this short when the Ratatouille DVD comes out.

This short film will be Pixar’s first short film in 2-D!

Ooh! Sweet! A 2-D short film! I am excited to get the Ratatouille DVD already! I can’t wait to see it! Thanks for telling JV!

Cool  I can’t wait to see it. I still love 2-D

Yes! 2-D! Oh, I thank Pixar just for that!

Heheh. Sounds like this film is gonna be a cute one. Thanks for the news, JV!

This will be the fourth short film based on a feature then? Pixar doing 2D would be fun to see. I mean, they pulled it off in Ratatouille
, so I’m all for it. Thanks for the info, JV .

I know! It’s almost hard to believe, it’s that awesome! :sunglasses:

No problem guys! I actually reported about this short film over a month ago, but I guess I forgot to post about it over here…

Wow, that sounds so cool…I’d love to see Pixar tackling 2D for a change. Thanks for the information, JV!

The title sounds really cute. I wonder what it will be about…

My guess is a rat who happens to be a best friend like remy?

rachel - Whatever it is, I hope they include a Pixar Planet reference in there. Not that that would ever happen, but there’s no harm in keeping our hopes up!

OH Mitch, I think it would be an absolute miracle if somethine like that happened. This site would then be world famous!

Oh, man. That would be totally wicked!!! Even if it was just the logo hidden somewhere, or maybe in code (like India Golfer Niner Niner in The Incredibles for example).

I think Pixar Planet would be better suited to be a reference in Wall.E though, simply because of the space theme…

rachel - Cha, it would be beyond awesome.

Hey yeah! WALL-E! That would be perfect. Good speculation. It would make perfect sense…

Ahh, good old 2D animation… I can’t wait to see it!

I wonder if it will be hand-drawn 2D or computer 2D (like the TV cartoon “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends”). I assumed that the Ratatouille end credits were the latter, but I’m not sure.

I’ve always had the image in my mind of it being a bit like the introductory sequence of Monsters, Inc., but I’m probably wrong.

^

That’s what I thought of when I saw the Ratatouille end credits (and I loved both of them!) I also assumed that the Monster’s credits were digital and not hand drawn 2D, though, once again, I don’t know for sure.

I actually had the very same question pop into my head during the few seconds while I was waiting for the page to load. My guess would be computer 2D, because however much we admire Pixar for taking risks and doing things differently, computer animation is their realm of expertise, and I would guess (though I’m not sure, since it’s not my realm of expertise) that it’s rather quicker than hand-drawn.

And we don’t know yet whether it’s even going to be the same stylistically as the end credits, do we? So far it’s all been assumption. Personally, I think that that style worked beautifully for the credits, but a different style might be better-suited to storytelling. If I remember correctly, I think the drawings in the end credits had lines that were somewhat sharp and not necessarily rounded all the time, or lacked very extensive shading, or something like that, I can’t recall… It seemed a little too un-detailed and “carefree” a style to be able to mesh with plot. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I feel that that style fits the dialogue-free, no-real-plot, whimsical animation of the end credits more than it would a short film with an actual story.

However it’s done, of course, we know that the Pixarians will have thought long and hard about what’s best and no matter what it’ll be a treat.

Interesting question. I must side/agree with DElf on this matter: Pixar will use the medium that they think is best for the tale in question. However they do it, I’m sure it will turn out beautifully.

DElf - The style in question looked something like this (only a little more “choppy” and sharp-edged):
