79th Annual Academy Awards

As n Animator; i’m

discusted that Happy feet won… it’s not even real animaton most of it is motion capture.

I was

fine (but disappointed) right up to when I discovered what won best song: I Need to Wake

Up? I’d have thought if anything, Listen or

Patience would have won it, had not Our Town won. This makes me

strongly suspect that both votes were swayed by what’s vogue in Hollywood politics

at the moment: the environment. I think a large chunk of people voted for Happy Feet

and INtWU mainly because of their environmental message, rather than the quality of the respective candidates.

Political Correctness riles me.

Having just watched my tape, I am very disappointed. Darn

dancing penguins. :imp: I still haven’t seen that movie. Meh.

And although

Dash didn’t ruin anything for me on the phone last night, his tone was more than a

hint that the night was bad, so I suspected Cars lost. We both believe the Oscars

were rigged.

James and Randy’s performance of “Our Town” was a treat though, and so was the

glimpse oF Lifted.

~~=oP

The fact that Cars and Little

Matchgirl(Disney’s own entry to the Shorts category) were snubbed angers up my blood. Now if you excuse me, I’m

going to the angry dome to calm down.

Well. What can I say that hasnt already been said? I am pretty bummed that Cars did not win. There was obviously

something political going on there. The Academy likes to do things like this sometimes. Of course i think Cars

should have won. Of course i’m way disapointed. But to paraphrase what someone said one year at the People’s

Choice (which Cars did win an award from) "This isnt like the Oscars or the Grammys where if you lose it’s

not because the Academy didnt like you, or the committee didnt like you. If you lose here it’s because the

people didnt care for you." Whether or not that means anything to anyone i dont know but i thought it was

appropriate.

Well, it turns out that Cars just couldn’t match

up to the awesome power of dancing penguins and lively musical numbers in Happy

Feet.

Huzzah!!! I’m so happy that it won! I was hugging my

sister and screaming, I was so excited. The Oscars only come once a year folks, so someone has to shine.

Poor Mater looked pretty disappointed when Cars didn’t win, but I

applaude John Lasseter and the entire Pixar team for their collaborative effort anyway. They certainly deserve

it, as does Lifted and Our Town.

Congratulations

to the winners!! We’ll see Ratatouille win the Oscar next year… (snigger)

Excuse me? Heh – I’ll just pretend

that I didn’t hear that… :stuck_out_tongue:

I must also comment on the fact that you can’t judge a book by its

cover…especially if you’ve never read it. It’s fine to root for a particular film if you haven’t seen the

others; but really, how can you judge correctly if you take that specific approach? If you have only seen

Cars and neither Happy Feet nor Monster

House, how can you say that Cars is the best if you haven’t even

seen the other two? Maybe it’s just me, but that doesn’t seem to make sense…

Actually I agree with PV. :stuck_out_tongue: Just Kidding,I’m in a playful mood today.

I really disagree with their choice for the

winner .HF has , like , 5 different plots in one movie , it left me very confuzzled .

Cars was a low point for Pixar, there’s no

point in denying it, and I guess the fact that most people have come to expect amazing things from Pixar meant

that generally, yes, Cars was disappointing although it is actually a good film. Pair that with the whole Green

Theme that’s been going on, and we can see why Cars didn’t win (although it might not be completely

fair.)

But hey, Cars won other awards, and anyway, it’s not the awards that a film wins that makes a film

good- there’s plenty of films out there that have never recieved a nomination for anything, yet are still good

films in their own rights. Cars is still an enjoyable film, and it not winning the Oscar shouldn’t spoil the

experience for anyone.

Though I have a good feeling about Ratatouille for next year…

You have a point lizardgirl , Happy Feet does

also talk about saving the penguins from what we’ve done , and cars is mainly about a machine that has been

making this situation worse . Besides , Cars was paired next to Pirates of the Carribean 2 when it was released ,

and many children would unfortunately see fighting than a good movie with smiling , animated characters . Kids

these days shakes head:wink:

lizardgirl -

Good points. I agree with you on the fact that it doesn’t really matter whether a film wins an award or not –

it’s what the movie means to its audience that counts.

For example: Monsters

Inc. lost the award to Shrek a few years back (what’s up with

that?), but that doesn’t mean that “Monsters” wasn’t fantastic in its own right.

Amen!

A motion Capture movie wins An oscar for best “animated” Feature… i dotn know whats counted as

“animated” in everyone elses book; but back in the day Noone would even consider trading orginal

Animation techniques for live actors and a computer. I love the idea of real animators sitting in front on a

mirroracting out how the chacrhter would act and then using their imagination to create a frame by frame version

of whats in their head… It seems so much more cafeful and more thought out… there was no exageration with happy

feet! Remember when Lighting was in the first race and he bounced off the tires and flew up sticking out his

tougne… I mean you can tell what he’s thinking, it’s just an amazing few frames… how are they going to motion

capture that… seriously. It was a POOR judgement.

I love Animation, and people invovled with animation

and I applaud the whole crew of happy feet for giving it a go, I think theyre work was worth the jounrey, But

I’m sorry guys I dotn think they deserved the oscar… it has nothing to do with being a “pixar” fan

and being faithful to them… there is a reaosn why people defend Pixar films and I am willing to bet it isnt

about being “faithful” it’s about good films…

Gah!?! the utter shame of it all!!!

Considering the lesson of Cars - Life is not about the destination, it’s about

the journey - we don’t have to be too angry because it didn’t win : the important thing is what we felt and

what we are feeling when we’re watching the movie, not that it didn’t win any oscar as a result.

Wow.

That was pretty deep :open_mouth:

Wow , if Lasseter’s reading this topic , he’s probably thinking " Haven’t I taught you anything ?

How many times does Doc have to say it people : It’s just an empty cup ! " .

Sorry sir , we’ve

learned from it now . Although I’m guessing Lasseter is pretty upset himself .

it’s just an empty cup… Why

didnt I think of that. Your right.

That’s true. We got so caught up in winning, that we

forgot about what was truely important. Even if Cars didn’t win, that still doesn’t mean it’s a winner. I

mean, look at all of the fans here.

Ya’ Know…I’m not going to agree with this

“empty cup” thing. (Forgive me: I’m still mad) I mean, the reason we all love Pixar is because they

create super high quality animation with a value on story. Nobody else has this combo. When they lose the oscars,

it’s like a slap in the face.

What happened to Lifted? Who’d it lose

to?

That’s so true, there is more to movies than just winning awards.

gottalovepixar - Hey

yeah, I never thought about that before: the “empty cup” theory! Thanks for reminding us about that.

Gasduude - Lifted lost to a hand-drawn short

film entitled The Danish Poet, I believe.

GLP has a very good point. It

is just an empty cup, and a movie doesn’t need an award to show how great it is to other people. Of course, I

still believe Cars should have won, even if I haven’t seen Happy Feet yet… but hey, Pixar hasn’t given up on

ruling the world of animation yet.
