Look, if you read my previous posts; you will come
to see I have previosuly stated I appluad the crew from Happy feet for trying theyre best. As An Animator myself
I applaud an effort, and I feel that it is great to have ALL of the animation community together… just as it is
here.
But I’m not the only one that feels cheated these days… dont you relize how many films big suited
executives have been poping out mearly for profit??? I’m not saying Happy feet is joining that croud of movies…
but by the presentation thats what it looked like to me. To me, it looked like some random guy who knew nothing
about animation, but had a a couple of computer guys on hand to render the beutifully executed "icey
wonderland" and made a movie. I agree theyre were some cute parts here and there, but nothing too genius, or
clever.
With Animation you can do anything you want. ANYTHING. And the Happy Feet crew choose to make a
movie about a penquin who cant sing. I mean "the whole story plot- to me seem like they could have done so
much more with it; even if it ment the penquins built a rocketship and flew it into space to find the penquin a
new vocal box; that they heard about from the much wiser penquin… the storys ideas were endless.
It’s
“Animation with Imagination” , it’s all part of making not just a good movie but a GREAT movie. You
have to shoot the film to the moon and back, and then once you think you’ve got a good movie on hand thats when
you start over and make it even better. Take a look at Studio Ghiblis work; they have some of the greatest
imaginations of all time and they use it in their film. Or what about Pixars Toy Story, and now they went agenst
the grain. Disney having had some of the greatest Animation eras of all time with Bambi and Snow White, made a
big mistake and fireing John Lassetter, only to have John lassetter prove them wrong… and boy did he ever… if
I ever had to think of an Animated film that had heart it would absoutly be Toy Story. What exactly is the story
behind Happy Feet???
The Cars story? Where would I even begin. How about the death of Joe Rantf? He did
so much for the Animation Commuinity, working on movies people never knew he worked on (Nightmare before
christmas, Corpses bride, The brave little toaster, beauty and the beast) the list goes on forever. Cars did
not lack heart; the very soul of Joe is inside of that movie and that fact takes the
movie Cars to a whole new level… the end of the movie dedication to Joe simply touched my heart on so many
levels… and I’m more than possitive others here will agree full-heartedly.
I dont expect anyone to agree
with me. but this stuff has never been far from the truth. it is the truth and I could never settle for anything
less. I feel it would be appropriate to remember why Pixar’s legacy continues, and why so many people love their
films so much. They are more than a legacy now, They belong to the hearts and souls of everyone who ever enjoyed
their films. and it will always be frozen forever in time.
