79th Annual Academy Awards

Besides, Cars did

extremely well in the Annie Awards right? In my opinion, that is very important. More important that the Oscar

award because the Annie Awards is the most prestigous award in all animation.

Good Point.

Still, it’s annoying. :unamused:

:unamused:

Extremly good?

?hm, nope.
It only got the Best Animated Feature and Best Song Award.
I know that

Best Film is the highest award, but - it simply disappointed!!! It didn’t get any other award. And there were

some for it to win.

I know this might sound a bit like I don’t care about

Cars or Pixar (although I do) but I didn’t really care whether they won at the Oscars or not. Watching the rest

of the Oscars, I found that I hadn’t even heard of most of the films that were up for awards apart from the odd

one or two. The next day, I must’ve talked to at least 20 people about the Oscars and only two had watched any

of it.

I guess these kinds of awards are important to film companies, because it makes them more known

and when people see ‘award-winning’ on a DVD case, I guess it might make the film more appealing. But, at the

end of the day, the Oscars generally didn’t make that much of an impact it seems. Cars definitely deserved to

win- it was a better film, completely and utterly- but some years you win, and other years you don’t. I’m sure

the people at Pixar aren’t too upset about it, even the people that worked hard on Cars itself, since they’ve

got what they aimed for, which was not an Oscar; they made the film to entertain people, not win awards. The

awards seem to be more of a bonus.

lizardgirl - My thoughts exactly. Who cares, really, if you win or lose? It’s the

people you touched that makes it all worthwhile in the end. I’m sure those millions of dollars that

Cars earned more than makes up for it.

That’s true. Another talk about the Oscar Awards and Cars.

Did any of

you guys see the animation of the characters Lightning and Mater? And how they reacted after realizing they

didn’t win? That was cute.

and yet,

How can you say it was a

better film if you havent seen Happy Feet?! You can only pass judgement if you have seen all the movies in the

category, so I assume you have seen Monster House.
So before you say Cars was better than the other two

movies nominated, maybe you should make an effort to see what Cars as up against in the first place.

Ive seen clips of Happy Feet and,it was kinda funny

,but I guess I liked Cars way better :sunglasses: .But Happy Feet was ok.

Elastigirl- Yeah, I’ve seen Monster House, and although it was

an okay film overall, I didn’t really find the characters that…appealing…As in, I didn’t find that I cared

about them, if you see what I mean, and it’s very important to create characters that you can care

about.

And nope, I haven’t seen Happy Feet, and I know the impression one can get from a film may not

always be accurate (I mean, look at the Cars ads themselves) but I’m passing judgement from what people close to

me- my friends and family- have said about Happy Feet, and the general consensus is the same. I haven’t seen it

as I haven’t had the time, so I’m relying on their opinions, and they’ve all pretty much said that Cars was

the better film.

Elastigirl - I think it’s easy to say that a mjority of us will usually go to a movie because

it sounded good . If the commercials were not appealing to lizardgirl , I doubt the movie will be .

It;s

been days , and I still can’t believe Happy Feet won , I’m sorry , but I don’t think it deserved to win . Not

because Cars was a nominee , if it wasn’t , I still would not want Happy Feet to win . I would have probably

rooted for another movie instead . Like flushed away . even though it was not a nominee , I think it deserved to

be . I mean , have you not heard the slugs ?

Here’s my theory on why Pixar

didn’t pick up any wins in the Oscars:

Animated Short: Lifted didn’t win because the Academy LOVES

picking smaller, independent production companies that might have a chance to produce larger films later. I

applaud them. That’s how it should be.

Original Song: “I Need to Wake Up” was, by far, the

least deserving to win out of the five nominations (I was rooting for Dreamgirls, but I definitely think

Dreamgirls split the vote). Remember when Ellen said that this is the “Greenest Oscars Ever?” Well,

“I Need to Wake Up” has a beautiful environmental message, and any Academy member will vote for

that!

Animated Feature: I liked Happy Feet, just not that much. I can see how the Academy voted for Happy

Feet more than they voted for Cars. My first theory why Cars didn’t win is that they didn’t want Pixar to

control the animation industry. My second theory is that they forgot about Cars, since Cars was released in the

summer, hype died down while Happy Feet’s hype went up. My third theory is this was the "Greenest Oscars

Ever," and Happy Feet fits perfectly with the environmental theme.

Oscar for Cars or not, I will

always love Pixar.

When “Our Town” was

played, I was singing it quietly. And in the end, I was so close to crying too. It was so moving.

I’m

actually going to have to disagree with that statement. Or, to put it in a more accurate way, I’m going to

disagree based on my personal experiences. There have been many, many films with very uninteresting premises that

turned out to be my most favorite movies of all time. The fact that I used so many superlatives in that previous

sentence isn’t a coincidence - I’m simply trying to emphasize a point. Examples of such films are

Babe, Babe: Pig in the City, E.T.: The

Extra-Terrestrial, to name a few. (Ironically, those first two films were George Miller

projects.)

The problem with uninteresting premises and horrendous trailers, though, is that you wouldn’t

have any good reason to convince yourself to watch the movie. Thus, you would sometimes have to rely on curiosity

instead of interest. Nonetheless, it does not necessarily mean that you will not like the movie (I was going to

say “…that does not mean that the movie is bad,” but there really isn’t such a thing as an

inherently bad movie; it’s all based on each person’s opinion).

It turns out that the converse is true

as well, at least from my own experiences: A person might not like (or, even worse, hate) a movie whose premise

seems extremely interesting. In my opinion, The English Patient is one such

movie.

Again, as i’ve said before… The crew from happy feet said in an interview

that they were “too afraid” to animate humans.so they used live action, they also used motion capture

for the movie… that to me says “lack of confidence” “lack of skills” Think about it, how

many penquin movies are there … I mean COME ON!! pebble and the penquin, madagasgar, Surfs up, the list goes on

and on… So Cars goes agenst the grain and does Cars, not only did they do Cars but the animation went above and

beyond what people would think a car would do or act. The fist racing scene being a spectacular

example.

There is no hiding it or getting around it, Cars is indeed the winner even without the stupid

cup.

Cars a loser for not winning

Oscars. I think not.

See? We all

have so much to be thankful for.

crostskates - True, very true. :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you not realise how tiny the Animation industry is

down here!

IS NO ONE LISTENING TO ME!!!

Ever since the Disney studio in Sydney closed 2 years ago

the animation industry in Australia has pretty much died!

So what if Happy Feet used live-action, it added

that extra something that made you question some of the things that we do to animals for our enjoyment!
ALSO

Animal logic is TINY in comparison to Pixar. It’s like Luxembourg to Russia!

And please, having

anthromorphic Cars as a subject is original… did you not get the memo about the, oh 8 Herbie

movies

Furthermore- i’ve said it before and I will say it again… the Oscar would have meant nothing to

Pixar, just another notch in their animation belt- but for Animal Logic this is HUGE!

Just face it- Happy

Feet ownes Cars

No,not in my opinon. And you don’t have to yell. Cars was still a winner wether it won or

not.

Elastigirl, I understand your frustration, because people have also disagreed with

my opinions before (obviously). However, I don’t think it’s necessary to shout at the top of your lungs (which

is what your all caps statement is implying). Let’s try to make Pixar Planet as friendly an environment as

possible - debates (i.e., discussions in regards to what you liked/didn’t like about certain movies) are

absolutely fine as long as they don’t get out of hand. I’m not an administrator or anything, but I hope I’m

not just speaking for myself.

If other posters didn’t like Happy Feet,

and have seen it, then so be it. If other posters don’t like Happy Feet, despite

the fact that they haven’t seen it, then you’ve made your point (which I agree with) and that, I believe, is

enough. The same thing applies if a person doesn’t like Cars whether they’ve seen

it or not. From my experience, anger can make a person bash movies instead of making valid, respectable arguments

(Boy, I recall those foolish days when I bashed the Lord of the Rings movies just

because one of them won Best Picture and none of the Star Wars movies did… I wish

those days had never happened, even though I still hope at least one Star Wars movie

had won Best Picture, being the masterpieces that I think they are .)
