A Possible Contest???

Would you participate in Pixar Planet’s first ever Fan Video Creation Contest?

  • Absolutely!
  • Maybe!
  • I don’t think so!

I’m thinking of doing an exclusive Pixar Planet Fan Video creation contest. But before I make it official, I would need to know how many would participate and a what a possible prize would be.

The reason why I am thinking of starting a Fan Video Creation Contest is to make use of the Pixar Planet Usergroup and invite people who are in the group to participate in this contest.

I’d be interested, but I’ve never really made videos before, and have no clue how to. Nonetheless, I’d love to try it out!

If you want, I or thedriveintheatre can teach you. Just drop a PM.

Neat idea, TSS! Haven’t made a fan video in a while… and never made a Pixar fan video before. I say it’s about time I do! I’d participate.

I would participate, but I usually forget about my videos. ^^; Never good in a contest, huh?

I think that’s a great idea!! Sounds fun. I might participate once the prizes, due dates, rules, and categories are settled. I can’t do it if the due dates are too soon though- I’m multitasking on a lot right now and am not sure when I can finish my Pixar videos. But it’s worth a shot.

Well, I guess for people to participate, I guess I need to explain the details.

Tell me what you all think of it so far? I’m not going to reveal the themes just yet. But to give everyone a heads up, the contest starts on the last day of Augest.

Sounds great!
Just a question: If we uploaded and shared a video before the end of August, are we allowed to submit those when the contest begins?

Yes you are. But how coincidental it would be if the video you shared/submitted actually fit the theme of this contest.

I don’t know why so many voted the ‘on-the-fence’ option. :stuck_out_tongue: I chose the ‘Abso-freakin’-lutely’ option (although some of the more cheekier of you lot might argue there was no such option, only ‘Absolutely!’).
Anyway, I’m already in the Videos usergroup. Question: For the ‘Recut’ category, are trailer dubs (like Wallenator Salvation) or nonsense mash-ups (Pixar vs Dreamworks) accepted? The ones mentioned in the guidelines seem to imply that tribute trailers and TV spots are okay, but I just want to clarify (since I tend to make a mockery of the very films I love :stuck_out_tongue:).

Wait a minute TSS, I didn’t sign up for that! :open_mouth:
Nah, just kidding.
If you want to know how to video-edit, ffdude1906, it’s just a matter of cutting, copying and pasting. The only differentiator is how well you use the tools available to you and make sense of the lyrics/trailer dialogue to produce a well-thought-out piece. PM me if you need any assistance.

or me

TDIT: I editted the categories. Mash-ups are allowed. They fit in the Recut Category now.

Count me In! :sunglasses:

Quick question to all who plan to participate in this contest.

A while ago, I said that this contest would run for a two month span. I am considering that two months to submit one or two videos might be too long. But you also have to factor that with school starting again for the majority of us, that would mean our lives would get incredibly busy.

What do you all think? Should you all have one or two months to work on this contest?

So do you all want this contest to run one month or two months?

Well, I would love to do a music video. I have a song and footage in mind, but it’s for Up, and thus I have 2 issues: I can’t get the footage, and spoilers. I’m gonna have to opt out on this one, but I’d love to see some great fan vids! As for the contest lasting 1 or 2 months, I really have no clue what to say,… I think 1 month would be plenty, but I’ve never really done video work.

Sorry,…

Well, I had an amazing WALL-E music vid in the works a couple months back, but 1) I didn’t have a lot of time to work on it, because my mom was always using the computer it was on, and 2) that same computer crashed and we lost everything - including my unfinished video. I’m going to have to completely re-download a copy of WALL-E onto the computer in a file my video editing program can read, and start all over again. There’s no way that video would be done in a month - with school starting back up, my sibs are gonna need that comp, and I don’t have my own MacBook to work on it myself! :frowning:

And, not to be tooting my own horn, that music vid was sick. Like, I was super freakin’ proud of how it was turning out. It was intense, the timing was precise… aughhh everything was perfect…

But trust me - I would have totally entered this contest if it weren’t for the crappy situation I’m in. :unamused:

little chef

Well, I’m not really sure. I think 1 month would be good for some people, and we also get to go into different themes quicker, but some people (including me) might need extra time. 'Cause this summer, I thought I would be able to finish a load of videos with my spare time. I told classmates to look out for my videos over the summer. I was wrong (and also a little embarrassed) because even with all this time, I haven’t gotten a single video uploaded on YouTube yet. Me and my laziness…and my urge to multitask while being lazy…sigh.

I suppose I vote 2 months.

little_chef_eva09: Oh, that’s terrible! :frowning: The computer crash is like the virtual version of natural disasters. I kinda know how you feel, because I HATE it when I work hard and long on something and accidentally didn’t save it and it gets deleted, but I guess that’s not much compared to a computer crash wiping out everything uncontrollably. I’m so sorry- what happened to your hard work wasn’t fair. Hopefully, you can remember the order of clips to the music you chose, including effects and transitions. You could jot down notes on what you remember to help. I’m sure you can get the timing right again. I know it’ll take a lot more work and maybe stress you out a bit, but if you set your mind to it and persevere, you can show 'em who’s boss (well, you know what I mean by that)!

Aw, why not give it a go, ffdude1906? Nothing to it… Windows Movie Maker and iMovie are really easy to learn, it’s just a matter of how precise you can cut the footage and match it to the lyrics/dialogue to state your intent. All my fan vids were made using iMovie, nothing fancy, heheh. I really want to learn the more fancy ones like Final Cut or Sony Vegas when I have the time, though.

Aw, man, I feel ya pain, little_chef. My external WD hard disk (who I christened “Wall-E”, laugh out loud) crashed last year and I lost all my previous files from years ago overnight. Had to reformat the thing, cos’ it refused to be recognise by XP and it was not formatted to work with Mac (Now it works with both, using the FAT32 system or something). Thank goodness I had my all my fanvid iMovie project files on my Maxtor “Eve” disk! You can never have too many backups!

WIth regards to TSS’ query, I also vote two months. The next few months, in fact, I will be very busy, so I’ll pop here less often to cram for my final year project. I’ll make whatever time I can for my ‘fandom’, but no promises. :frowning:

Well, the vid I WANNA make isn’t really an option at the moment, I’ll have to wait for Up to get to DVD first, I can’t get the footage until then. Besides that, I haven’t really thought about doing a video. Once I can though, expect a nice vid to come your way, I think the song will go nicely with what I intend to put to it.
