I haven’t seen a post on them yet, so I decided to start one!
I LOVE these guys, and I’m even excited about the upcoming movie, but I think only PixarVixen knows that. Do any of you like them?
Remember that this is NOT just about the movie but the old cartoons as well!
I vaguely remember the old TV show, but I’ve only seen a few posters of the new film, so I haven’t been able to judge whether it’s actually going to be any good or not. It’s pretty hard to tell if it’s gonna stay true to the original.
I loved the 80’s TV series as a kid, and I saw the 80’s animated movie The Chipmunk Adventure multiple times in theatres.
I have to say that from the trailer of the new movie, they have CGI-ized the chipmunks far better than I thought possible. They resemble real chipmunks a bit more, since the ones in the cartoon were basically short furry children with black noses, and I think that would have been a bit creepy in CGI mingling with live-action humans
.
However, in a very prominently featured scene from that same trailer, Alvin puts a piece of chipmunk poo in his mouth. The new film completely lost me at that point. Alvin, animated pop culture icon, is forced to stoop to this in order to capture the attention of today’s audiences?

It really makes me appreciate that, in a movie about rats who eat garbage and live in the sewer, Ratatouille avoided the gross-out humor. Though even the TV commercials for that film focused on “fun facts” about “gross” foods that were not mentioned in the movie.
I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks as a child! And ew… I’m not going to watch the new movie. Why must film industries keep making remakes of cartoons into CG?? (Garfield, TMNT, etc.) Can’t they think up new things? I don’t like how they look… they’re trying to give them attitude that is so unlike their characters. I was disgusted when I saw the trailer during The Simpsons movie.
makes herself feel better by listening to the Chipmunks Christmas song
I used to love this show, along with just about every other early '90s cartoon.
About the movie, though… I saw the trailer and the chipmunks do look cute in their CG form, but I’m not sure if I will see the movie. I’ll see what sort of reviews it gets but judging by the quality of kids’ films that come out these days it doesn’t look too promising.
And I can’t believe that Jason Lee can go from doing a fantastic job in The Incredibles, to Underdog, then this movie.
Oh I remember these three cute little critters. I love them! They are so cute and their voices are so adorable! I can’t wait for their movie to come out.
i loved watching the cartoon series. I admit i have the cartoon movie with them going all over the world. I even have the soundtrack.
as for the new movie coming out, i need to see more, from what i saw from the movie preview, it looks okay. They look different being computer animated.
I used to watch them on TV from time to time. One of my best friend’s absolutey LOVES The Chipmunks.
The October 26-28, 2007 USA WEEKEND magazine mentions a link to their “interview” with Alvin. Curiosity killed the chipmunk, and if anybody was unsure about the movie before, this is an eye-opener:

I used to watch the cartoons every morning before school when I was about seven. I loved them, but i’m not too excited about the new film. Movies that are made so long after the original cartoons almost always never turn out that great.
Actually this saddens me. I don’t understand why everyone has to new-a-lize (made up word) Everything…sometimes older is better. the cartoon is…well brilliant… I love the old cartoons, so much and too see they made into cgi chachters just gives me shivers and makes me cry. ha…
I’ve only seen a few episodes of that show. i was never that into the Chipmunks. I guess I felt they were a little too silly for me. I gotta say that after seeing a poster for the new chipmunks movie, they look kinda creepy. I dont know if they made them too real looking or what, but they dont look right.
Eh. I’m probably going to pass on this chipmunk. I never was interested in the tv show and books, so there’s a good chance that I won’t clean out my pockets for a film dealing with the subject.
As for that interview: I agree with PV. That was…disturbing… shudders

I actually loved the TV show. The voices got annoying, but they were just too cute. My favorite episode is where Alvin had to decide between the prize money or a mystery prize.
What happened to you, Jason Lee? You used to be cool!
I adored the cartoon as a kid. I used to watch The Chipmunk Adventure non-stop (viva la Chipettes!), but doing a CGI re-make now is just ruining the nostalgia for me. Making them hip-hop singers with the hoodies and bling isn’t clever or modern, it just makes them look cheesey. And what are they going to ‘revive’ next? Rainbow Brite as a super sexy manga girl? Carebears – the emo years? My Little Pony as… okay, I have nothing for that. But the point remains, all the 80s cartoons were terrific, but trying to update them for a modern audience is wrecking the very things people liked about them to begin with.
I can only assume they’re doing it now because the people who loved the shows back then are about the age they’re having children of their own, so the studios hoping they’ll try to introduce their own kids to the shows they loved via new films. But it’s silly really: if you liked the shows that much to begin with, you’d track them down on VHS or DVD to show your children, so they can see the real thing.
They sell Care Bears merchandise at Hot Topic. It’s only a matter of time. Heheh.

I know I will! All the best cartoons were on in the '80s/early '90s…
I’d HATE to see what they’d do if there was a Carebears live action revival! ![]()
