If you look closely you’ll also notice that part of the night stand’s hind legs also go into the wall a bit, leading me to believe that for some reason they had accidentally moved the room model itself along the z axis (toward the camera) without taking the furniture with it, so anything too close to the wall got clipped as well. I remembered thinking this shot looked off in the theaters but thought I was just seeing things. now that we can frame through it I know why.
I’d be so embarrassed if I were the one who let that slip through finalizing the movie. its one thing for clipping to occur every now and then for a couple frames here and there, but this is more blatant than usual. this sort of thing usually only happens with things in motion, not set pieces.
That’s even worse than the animation error at the end of Toy Story (the one where Andy’s fingers go straight through Buzz after he landed in the car).
It’s mind-boggling how apparently the mistake in which Mr. Potato Head’s foot was going through the garage floor in the trailer was corrected, but this was missed
Wow, that is bad. I mean, you have to think about how they look through and approve every shot in the movie. I just wonder why they would move the room model, and if they did it by accident why didn’t they undo it? That’s a pretty big screw-up.
Yeah,I just woke up and read his response. I can’t believe I was the first to notice this. I wonder if they’ll ever try to fix it in future prints of the movie? Maybe your current copies could be worth something. I guess thats doubtful, animation mistakes go uncorrected all the time, but now its all I can think about when I see this shot. Which is a shame, because its one of my favorites in the film.
Maybe they will. Maybe they don’t. As bad as the mistake is though, it’s not going to change anybody’s experience of watching it. This is still a great film from start to finish.
Goodness, this is a funny mistake! I didn’t notice it either times I saw the movie, because I was just trying to enjoy the film rather than notice all the details…
