Gotta love BB and Cyborg,
a perfect comedic duo!
But I like all the others also, they have their moments. Boo ya! ![]()

-cough- You wanna give those to me, Sam?
XD

I would LEND them to you if I could.
"I’m
only gonna say this once- Boo ya!" Yeah, once…! ![]()
My view on anime is a very very opinionative one.
I think it’s half and half,
the frame rate is extremelly poor, like 2/3 frames for someone turning round completely. I don’t know if this is
intentional cus I don’t know enough about it.
But I do know you must be very talented to draw it.
Mail them to me =3
Or better yet, just tell me where you bought them
haha.
.<
It was at a hobby
store. Some comic book stores have them too. Yes, you have to go into a geek store. XD
They arn’t cheap,
though. >.< Anime isn’t cheap.
Yes, you have to be very talented to draw it. Most anime is based
off of manga, which I prefer. XD I mean, it’s like anything else. They based most animes off of manga, so tehir
going to mess up some thing, especially when they start making the anime before the manga series is complete.
XD
Hahaha. I know what you mean. -__-; Those mangas are like 14 bucks.
I go into comic book stores all
the time. My mum gets discounts on comic books and mangas, because she is a teacher. Bahah ![]()
Here’s my favourite anime character of all
time!

Impmon from Digimon Tamers (third season). I bought the little guy off eBay. ![]()
I used
to watch Digimon XD I always thought it was a rip off of Pokemon…
I used to watch Digimon XD I always thought it was a rip off of
Pokemon…
I initially thought that as well, but Digimon easily has better characters
(and MUCH better storyline) than Pokemon. ![]()
I grew up watching anime, so there’s a lot of shows that are close to my
heart. I’m a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki’s work and I was thrilled to learn that John Lasseter and many Pixar
people are, too! In fact, I think anime can rejuvenate the stale Western TV cartoons. Most of the best shows now
are anime-hybrids made by Americans and Europeans. Teen Titans, Avatar: the Last Airbender, and the Boondocks are
all outstanding ‘pseudo-anime’ shows. They may have an Eastern look but they have a distinctly Western
flavor.
If I can’t get work at Pixar, I’d like to work on an anime-styled show. I’m glad I wouldn’t
have to move all the way to Japan to do it. ![]()

Well to be truthful, I
love all types of animation, but there’s something about some Japanese animation that I dislike. It’s really
hard to explain but I love the really really cartooney animation like chuck jones, or the incredible duo Ollie
johnson and Frank thomas that stayed true to acting. I like really beleveable chacthers even in the most zaney
situations, and I want to be able to turn the sound off and still be able to read there lips… you
just cant do that with japanese animation. I’ve watched some of the stuff my lil bro watches and
I really was starting to feel like I was being gyped out of some left out inbetweens.
But other than
that, I love it. In my own opinion Miyazaki RULES Japanese animation by a long shot… it’s incredible incredible
stuff, and for those who disagree, try and look at some of the art from that stuff… oh my god, it’s
insane!
LONG RANT BUT PLEASE FORGIVE ME ![]()
DISNEY, PIXAR ROCKS!!! Japanese Anime need to step it up a thousand fold
in terms of quality ANIMATION!!!
I’ve been a Disney (pixar)
fanatic all my life and only recently (i…e 2 years ago) somewhat of a fan of a small, limited, handful of
Japanese anime
SO SO TRUE!! The Lips just flap
repeatedly!!!..no variation…disgusting
Yep, the lips just flap
repeatedly in one motion (open, close, open close) seemingly as if they’re saying the same word over and over
again. That’s Japanese animation for you…WHICH IS RATHER UNFORTUNATE for the genre. But with any and all of
your “American Animation” (i.e. Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, Flintstones, Jetsons, etc),
you know the animator took time to perfect mouth movements that would be in tune
with the actual pronunciation of spoken words.
This is one big reason (there’s actually two reasons) why
it’s so difficult to simply watch an entire Japanese anime.
(1) In Japanese anime, the mouths don’t
move in a manner similar to what the characters actually say (yes I know there’s definitely a
discrepancy when English audio is superimposed over Japanese language, but then again, when japanese individuals
speak, there’s variation to the way their mouths are positioned…)
(2) In Japanese anime,
there are TOO MANY STILL-FRAMES
For me, I’m trying to concentrate on the story, but it’s just so darn
difficult to do so, especially when the Japanese character’s mouth “flaps” only one way AND PLUS THERE
IS TOO MANY STILL-FRAMES IN JAPANESE ANIME. Sometimes even Hayao Miyazaki’s character are guilty of such, but
fortunately his work is absolutely superb in story and especially in ANIMATION. I believe ALL Japanese animes
should strive to do what Miyazaki’s (Katsuhiro Otomo, Satoshi Kon, Shinichir? Watanabe: three
lesser known individuals to the American Public) does - which is obviously, tell a good story, but
more importantly ANIMATE THE DARN CHARACTERS - PLEASE !!!
BOTTON LINE: Miyazaki’s films are actually
“JAPANESE ANIMATION” while most other Japanese films are "JAPANESE
ANIME" Most Japanese anime consist of TOO MANY
STILL-FRAMES!!!.
Why Disney/Pixar and most if not all american
animation are WAY better than Japanese anime IN MY HONEST OPINION:
(1) When watching American
Animation, I don’t get distracted by STILL-Frames.
(2) When watching American Animation, I am paying 100%
attention to story instead of “criticising while watching” japanese anime for their lack of animation
skills, “flapping of lips” and too much still frames
(3) Bottom line: It’s easier to watch american
animation because I get to actually enjoy the story; with Japanese anime, it’s simply too difficult to focus on
the story when I’m more critical of the work (all aforementioned and will be mentiond
articles)
My view on anime is a very very opinionative one.
I
think it’s half and half, the frame rate is extremelly poor, like 2/3 frames for someone turning round
completely. I don’t know if this is intentional cus I don’t know enough about it.
But I do know you must
be very talented to draw it.
Japanese animators…can
you PLEASE PLEASE “ANIMATE” your characters…please STOP with the
STILL-FRAMES!!!
Yep. The Frame rates are extremely POOR for most Japanese
anime. I guess that’s why they’re called “ANIME” and NOT “ANIMATION.”…which is
unfortunate by the way.
Most of the time, I’m just like “would you please move” (referring to
Japanese characters that simply stand there in static images…Japanese animators, is it so difficult to
actually ANIMATED your characters?) I know it’s a budget thing, but COME ON’ NOW!!! If you don’t animated the
character, it simply turns me OFF!
If you had a split screen or two tv sets side by side and slap in any
American Animation versus a Japanese Anime, the quality (in terms of fluid moment) hands down American Animation
takes the edge. Just turn on any Disney DVD (even the worst ones) and the animated-fluid motion is drastically
better than Japanese anime.
The ideas depicted in some of the various anime titles are pretty
interesting, but in my opinion a large majority of Japanese anime just plain suck because they are NOT animated
properly (arggh, too much STILL FRAMES!!!). Put it up against any American cartoon animation, and the fluidity,
the moments (and yes, don’t forget when the characters speak…lips…the lips flap exactly alike all the time
in most if not all Japanese anime) are LIGHT YEARS ahead of Japanese
anime.
SUB versus DUB Japanese
anime:
For those of you… why do you like the SUB version
better than the DUB version???
(1) Here’s the thing, I don’t understand
why so many individuals choose to watch Anime in SUB format (i.e. subtitled) rather than DUB (i.e. English
Audio), especially for those that don’t comprehend Japanese.
(2) Well for me, when watching the SUBBED
version, I loose out on ENJOYING the actual animation. You just don’t see really what’s going on
animation-wise. Yes, reading the subtitles gives you an idea of what’s going on BUT you don’t get the full
effect as you would when you are WATCHING the animation and hearing the English AUDIO.
(3) For those that
enjoy SUBBED versions, wouldn’t it be better to simply read a MANGA BOOK??? Just a matter of
curiosity.
(4) Again, those that enjoy the sub may say the americanized vocals butcher the voices of the
characters, but I’ve seen a handful of Japanese anime and I think the English audio opinion just makes the
VIEWING EXPERIENCE SO MUCH BETTER. I’m using two senses (my ears and eyes) simultaneously…
Eyes = to
see the actual animation;
Ears = to listen to the english audio and what the character is
saying.
Japanese Anime that I think are good and come close to being
special: (note: I look mostly for quality ANIMATION, not still-frame!! I’m simply digusted with still frames!!!
)
How I determine which anime titles I
like:
/u they have to be animated (fluid character moments)
(B) NO Still FRAMES !!!
(unless still frames works with the MUSIC: the only examples of this EVER happening is with “NOIR” and
“Boogiepop Phantom” and “LAIN” )
(C) Good ARTwork does NOT equal good ANIMATION. They are
NOT synonyms!!!
(D) then finally storyline has to be there.
The following meets the
criteria: watch the following and you made start to like anime again or begin to like FABULOUS
anime.
(1) ANY of Hayao Miyazaki’s work is stellar, superb.
(2)
Metropolis; Osamu Tezuka’s Metropolis - something on par with Disney - absolutely
stunning animation! Yes, this is one Japanese title that’s very well animated.
(3) Petite
Cossette - I personally haven’t seen it yet, but from previews; it’s actually has HIGH POTENTIAL
in terms of animation quality. (run a search on www.youtube.com)
(3) Kakurenbo: Hide & Seek
DVD - haven’t seen it yet, but very much like I think (MONSTER HOUSE) great animation,
haunting.
(3) Gankutsuou - great piece of work like no other. Absolutely gorgeous
piece of work. I’m surprised it’s not more well known.
(3) Paranoia Agent -
has a disney like quality but remains true to the Japanese ANIMATION medium (yes, I’ll use the word animation
here, because the movements of the characters are fluid) AN incredible work by Satoshi
Kon (I would have to say his work is kind of like Hayao Miyazaki in that the ANIMATION is great as
well as the story line)
(4) Tokyo Godfather - unfortunately, only subtitled, no
english audio.
(5) Millenium Actress - unfortunately, only subtitled, no english
audio.
(6) Lain - Serial Experiments ( Geneon Entertainment )
(7)
Texhnolyze - ( Geneon Entertainment, many scenes could have been animated better
)
( 8 ) Haibane Renmei - ( Geneon Entertainment )
(9) Boogiepop
Phantom
(10) Requiem from the Darkness - the way the characters
are drawn do not resemble your traditional japanese anime; it’s a haunting, dark, chilling series.
(11)
Heat Guy J - animation is pretty good
(12) Kamichu -
I think Hayao Miyazaki had a great deal to do with this one. So the animation is pretty top notch compared to
most Japnaese series out there. Check it out on www.youtube.com and see if you like
the animation
(13) Samurai Champloo -
(14) Seven
Samurai -
(15) NOIR - a very slow type of anime, it has it’s
fair share of still-mation (I’ll use the word still-mation, and not still frame, because these still frames WORK
to the series ADVANTAGE
(16) Grave of the Fireflies
(17)
Akira - another great flick. I thought it was stupid until I saw it.
(19 )
Steamboy - absolutely MUST SEE (from the creator of AKIRA, Katsuhiro Otomo)
(20 )
Jin-Roh (there’s a scene that has a handful of still-frames, which was not cool,
but overall the film has a fluid-moment quality if I remember correctly)
(21 ) Ninja
Scroll - again one of these classics that anime fans love, now I know why (yes, it’s well
animated and story line was cool)
(22 ) Ghost in the Shell ??? - maybe, but from
what I did see, there were quite a handful of still-FRAMES, thus for the question marks [???]
I’ve noticed I have been viewing a lot of shows that are live action forms from their anime. Sailor Moon,
Prince of Tennis, and Jigoku are all examples.
You’ve voiced your pion, now I want to defend my side.
![]()
Most Japanese anime consist of TOO MANY STILL-FRAMES!!!.
Sometimes still-frames can be powerful for certain moments, but I do agree, like in
fight scenes where they just stand there. But, anime is also VERY detailed, as compared to many
“American” animated shows, so it would take longer to draw smaller, less important
movements.
I guess that’s why they’re called “ANIME” and NOT
“ANIMATION.”…which is unfortunate by the way.
Anime is the Japanese word
for animation, and there it applies to any form of animation. Here, though they use anime to describe animated
shows from Japan.
Here’s the thing, I don’t understand why so many individuals choose
to watch Anime in SUB format (i.e. subtitled) rather than DUB (i.e. English Audio), especially for those that
don’t comprehend Japanese.
Some people are interested in the langaue, perhaps becaus eteh
voice actors portray the chracters emotions better. And you do slowly start to pick up a little bit of Japanese.
And you get used to teh subtitles eventally.
- For those that enjoy SUBBED versions,
wouldn’t it be better to simply read a MANGA BOOK??? Just a matter of curiosity.
If you
are reading an action series, sometimes it’s pretty hard to follow battle scenes in book form

Just a few words in defense from a bit of an admitted Otaku. Heh. XD Maybe we’ll start a
debate. That could be fun. ![]()
