Who else loves the singer who can satirize pretty much 20 years of
pop culture’s music? I just got his new album “Straight Outta Lynwood” and I must say that I find it
very cool. I must now go and find all of his old albums. Who else listens to “Weird Al” Yankovic?

He’s slowly growing
on me. I looooove his new ‘White and Nerdy’ video! I’ll probably get into the rest of his music later this
week.
I am not really familiar with him.

I met him in a swamp down in
Dagobah
Where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda
S-O-D-A soda
I saw the little runt
sitting there on a log
I asked him his name and in a raspy voice he said Yoda
Y-O-D-A Yoda
Yo yo yo yo
yo-dah…
Yeah, I greatly enjoy Weird Al. Specifically, his Star Wars parodies, for they are
brilliant.
I’m a casual fan of
him. I really like A Complicated Song, his parody of Avril Lavigne’s
Complicated. The Saga Begins (Summary of The Phantom
Menace’s plot to the tune of American Pie) meant I didn’t have to watch it!
Also known as my
personal theme song.
(Except for the math, tech, science, and Star Trek stuff- I’m more of a literary
nerd.
)
I love Weird Al. It cheers me up on sad days, it makes me laugh
any day - which is big for me; I try to laugh every day.
If people would like to see the "White and
Nerdy" video, you can see it here. Of course, it’s
YouTube, so while Al’s lyrics are just about 99.9% clean (I think one of his songs a few albums ago was at least
kind of dirty, at most creepy), the comments might not always be, so be forewarned.
What strikes me about
him (and I didn’t realize it until I heard his parody of “You’re Beautiful”) is that he’s a talented
singer… who else could mimic so many varied styles and do it well?

I’ve got some of his best stuff. But when I heard “ebay” I was in tears
laughing for hours, it was after I’d been an ebay user for a number of years, and every single word was
hilarious.
(with laughter)
Love his work & I’ve ordered (now gotta wait for it
to ship/get here) ‘Straight Outta Lynwood’ CD, I’ve already heard 2 of his new songs, (1 isn’t in the album)
‘You’re Pitiful’ - parodying ‘You’re Beautiful’ & (1 is from the album) 'Don’t Download This
Song’.
Also I have all his albums (except the TV 1…)

“You’re Pitiful” isn’t actually on the album- Atlantic Record
company decided not to let Al put it on the album. But since Blunt never said anything, Al still has it on his
MySpace. Another one of my favorites about him is his polka meadly parodies. Gotta love pop music set to
polka…
It’s not that Blunt never said
anything; after the Coolio debacle, Al has made it a point to ask each artist (in person if possible, I think) if
it’s okay to parody the song, even though I think the law allows Al to do it anyway… James Blunt loved the
idea, but Atlantic Records said he couldn’t put it on the album. So Al put it online. You might even still be
able to download it off his official page at http://www.weirdal.com.
If you look carefully at the
“White and Nerdy” video, when he gets to the part where he’s editing Wikipedia, it’s the Atlantic
Records page he’s editing…
I love the polka medleys too. “Polka Power” off the Running with
Scissors album is my favorite…

But seriously, if you use eBay, you HAVE to hear eBay song, it’s just unreal.
LOL.

Heh – I love Weird Al’.
My dad first played his The Saga Begins song for me when I was little. I
thought that the guy on the cover of the cd was a girl at first; however, I was laughing so hard at the melody
that I didn’t care.
So far, Running with Scissors is my Weird Al’ cd
of choice. The Saga Begins and Your Horoscope for Today
tracks are my absolute favorites.
Mitch, can I ask how old you are? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want
to, but I got curious when you said that you were listening to Running with Scissors
(also my favorite Weird Al album) when you were little; that album came out when I was in high school…

Oh sure; no problem!
I’m seventeen, Ms. Eleison. I’ll be turning
eighteen on the twenty-eighth of July. If you’re wondering whether or not I heard it when it came out, then
no…I didn’t. My dad just had an old cd of the thing, which he played for me when I was around…seven or
eight. Or maybe I was ten? Can’t remember.
I finally saw him. I absolutely adored “White and Nerdy”.

28th July eh? My 19th
b.day is just 2 days after yours…
Anyway, I also quite like ‘Running With Scissors’ CD but my fave
song has to be ‘Jerry Springer’, along with ‘A Complicated Song’, ‘Hardware Store’ & ‘eBay’

Mitch:

Ms. Eleison?
Whoa, no need to be that formal! Call me KE, everybody else
does.

Marty17: Really? Cool! It seems like my birthday is between everybody else’s:
Daniel Radcliffe: July 23
One of my aunts:
July 26
Mine: July 28
One of my uncles: July
29
Yours: July 30
Harry Potter: July
31
The interesting thing I find about this is that they’re all almost in perfect order, with the
exception of Daniel Racliffe’s and my aunt’s birthdays. Another weird thing is that Daniel Radcliffe is exactly
the same age as me: He was born July 23, 1989; I was born July 28, 1989. Cool, no? As an
added bonus, I find that I share many traits, similarities, and interests similar to
that of Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter. I wonder if I should be scared here…?

KE: Haha, sorry about that! I have this eagerness to please everyone, so I
tend to be rather over-formal when it comes to introducing myself and addressing other people. It makes a good
first impression though, doesn’t it?

Yeah, it’s fine - though
I was quite taken aback - nobody’s ever called me anything like that before…
