Haha, i’d say ![]()
I think with me it’s a lack of attention span. And by “lack of attention span” I mean I have the attention span of a goldfish with ADD. I can make macaroni and cheese from a box, but not without wandering off in the middle of it. I’m supposed to stand here for 8 - 10 minutes? Forget that. I’ll just set a timer and play the Sims for half an hour and come back to overcooked macaroni.
And that is why I will never cook anything that takes any significant amount of time.
kageri - Amen. I’m not going to go through all of that foolishness for a bowl of overcooked parsley that I didn’t even care about in the first place. Now, if chocolate chip cookies were on the menu then I might make an exception, and a very rare exception at that.
Wow. You, too? Gee whiz. And I thought I was the only adolescent with a short attention span…
Puh-ha! Been there; done that. ![]()

I baked myself some Halloween cookies today. I have to say that the cookies taste so heavenly when hot or warm. Once they get cold, they start to taste bad. I was like, oh well. Hope the kids love them.
For my Brit Lit class, we had a to do a chivalry project. Based on the knights we read about in the Arthurian Legends, we had to do several chivalrous deeds for the school staff, our parents, and a random stranger. For the one for my parent, I made dinner for my mom. Unfortunately, I was really busy and had to write her an IOU… but I made the dinner last weekend!
I made pot pie and oven baked sweet potato fries. ![]()
Both came out really well, but they were simple recipes. Pillsbury frozen pie dough is REALLY good. For the pot pie, I’m just thinking of skipping the thyme next time… it has a really strong taste.
The sweet potato fries were really yummy. If you’ve never tried them before, they are soooo good and healthier for you than normal fries. ![]()
Sounds like you guys had fun baking! You’re both making me hungry… ![]()

Aww, poor Mitch. But yeah, it was totally fun.
What did the kids think of them?
Mmm, those sound good.
Did you bake them from scratch, or were they the kind where you buy the frozen dough and bake them?
Hah, I totally know what you mean… that seems to happen a lot with cookies. Too bad they can’t stay nice and warm forever ![]()
I made them from scratch.
A friend of mine brought in some of that microwaveable popcorn to school today- now we’re in Sixth Form, we have this little mini kitchen area where you can heat up basic food and boil water. The thing is, the instructions on the back of the popcorn bag were about as vague as you can get! So she put the bag in the microwave for about five minutes, but as the bag got so big and full of popcorn, by the end of the five minutes it wasn’t actually able to rotate in the microwave.
The result? Some lovely bits of popcorn, some undercooked bits of popcorn, and a whole lot of burnt popcorn that smelt of plastic. ![]()
Wow lizardgirl. Intresting story. Good thing it didn’t explode in the microwave.
lizardgirl - Haha! That’s funny… ![]()
Have you ever tried sticking a marshmellow in a microwave and heating it up? Some friends of mine over at a local website I used to attend (www.councilofelrond.com) “advised” to perform this trick, so I gave it a shot one day. The result is…interesting. ![]()

I have tried it before Mitch. It gets really pumped up sorta speak. I am thinking, okay is this going to explode?
I think my sister has done that marshmallow thing when she made s’mores one time. (They don’t taste as good when done in the microwave, let me tell you…). Her’s went all gooey and runny. Heh.
Oh, wow. That was weird… after I read lizardgirl’s post, I was JUST about to ask the same exact question! ![]()
So as you’ve probably guessed, yes, I have tried it
I used to be a bit obsessed with putting marshmellows in the microwave for a long amount of time… my mom made me stop once the microwave overheated one day from me frying marshmellows for too long ![]()
Mitch- Lol, no, I’ve never tried that- we don’t have a microwave at home.
I might try it with the school one, though… ![]()
I do love warm marshmallows, though. I remember at a friends birthday party, we were roasting marshmallows over the dying cinders of a barbecue but we all kept shoving each other’s marshmallows into the ash and ended getting it all over ourselves. ![]()
The Star Swordsman - Yeah, it’s rather odd… (snigger)
rachel - Cha, microwaved marshmellows taste kinda weird. It is fun to watch them blow up like balloons, though. ![]()
LeBatEnRouge - Woah. What a coincidence! Heheh.
Puh-ha! That’s funny. I’ve only done it once myself, but I suppose I should give it a few more shots. I’ll have to watch the microwave so that it doesn’t overheat, though, now that you mentioned it. ![]()
lizardgirl - Haha. Yeah, it’s hilarious. Have fun doing it if you do get a chance to.
Oh yes, warm marshmellows are delicious. Best tasting things in the universe…
By the way, if you don’t have a microwave at home, then do you heat up everything over a stove or in the oven – the traditional way? If so, then that’s pretty cool! I probably wouldn’t be able to eat if there was no microwave in my house. I can’t cook to save my life. ![]()
– Mitch
Mitch- I don’t do any cooking.
But yep, nine times out of ten my mum will use the cooker, or if it’s one of those warm up meals that you can buy as a whole package, and we’re in a hurry, she uses this little mini-oven thing. It’s sweet, but very old and doesn’t work well. ![]()
Mitch: Yeah, but but they do taste incredibly good in the end after they are all fluffed up.
