Anyone Collect "The Art Of" Books?

I’m not sure if there is another thread on this topic, I checked and didn’t find one, so if there is and I missed it, I apologize.

I was just wondering about this, because I am incredibly inspired by the production art that goes into these films. If I ever pursued a career at Pixar or another animation studio, I’d probably be apart of that front as apposed to the actual technical side of animation.

I have quite the lengthy wishlist compiling on Amazon, most of which are The Art Of books for my favorite Pixar a well as Disney animated features. But so far I have the Wall-E art book which I found for a steal at a used book store. I also have the Tangled art book… which I LOVE. Filled with Glen Keane sketches galore and well a beautiful paintings and designs by wonderful and creative artists…
My next purchases will probably be the following: Monsters Inc (because I love the art direction in that movie…) Monsters U, Finding Nemo, and the Incredibles. Also I’ll probably be getting the Wreck It Ralph one because I LOVE that film and the pieces that I’ve seen so far are really eye popping (I love excessively colorful artwork even though my own art tends to be drab and dismal).

Ok so tell me what you guys have/want! Any Pixar/animation art books you are eyeing? What do you already have? What do you recommend I add to my list?

Aaaaagghgh you have the Art of WALL-E, I’m completely jealous.

The only book I have is the Art of A Bug’s Life. Which my friend gave me, and is in a terrible state. Because I mainly use it to put between my laptop and stomach. XD

I’m actually on a quest to get The Art of Monsters University. I want to see if the bookstore has it, I’m going to check tommorrow.

I love ‘Art Of’ books! I have three, but only one Pixar-related one - The Art of Up. It’s just so inspiring to read about everything that went behind the movie. So much thought! So much details! So many hidden meanings! And the concept art is just really pretty as well. I read through the book a lot.

I’d buy more books, but they’re sadly really pricey because I have to get them imported or go to expensive import stores for them. D:

Now if only I wasn’t so lazy when it concerned earning money…

I definitely collect art books too! Now that I have a job, while I’m saving for a car (which I desperately need) I also like to spoil myself every so often with one of these. I don’t have very many so far… just the art of Ratatouille and WALL-E (my two favorite Pixars!!!) and also the art of Wreck-It Ralph (which is gorgeous… you’ll love it!). All are so very lovely but Ratatouille’s is my favorite. I would highly recommend getting that one too! ;u; I’m also probably going to pick up the art of MU here soon, quite possibly with my new paycheck in a few days.

Eventually I think I’d like to get my hands on the books for MI, Finding Nemo and either Up or The Incredibles as far as Pixar films are concerned. I’m still dying to have my own copy of the art of HtTYD, as well! ;o;

They are expensive, but it is worth it! Little Chef, I am so jealous that you have the Wreck-It Ralph one! I am getting that one next. But I’ll definitely add the Ratatouille one to my list! Unfortunately that is one Pixar movie that I have seen only a few times, so if I do get it I’m going to have to rewatch it. All the ones you mentioned are high on my list lol. Its hard to choose which one I want to most…
& the HTTYD one for sure! Love that movie  Its funny because every time I love an animated movie that wasn’t made by Pixar, I find out that one of the key people involved has Pixar roots, which is the case with HTTYD, Tangled, and Wreck-It-Ralph (in this case John Lasseter was a producer of both Tangled and Wreck-It-Ralph)

All of these posts make me want to get the Art of Books. I need them.

I know right?? I actually ended up ordering the Monsters Inc one yesterday… and as soon as I get paid I might go for the Wreck-It-Ralph one. Although I was seeing some great prices for some used Ratatouille, Incredibles and Finding Nemo ones… bites nails… get ALL THE ART BOOKS! (I wish xD)

Haha, right?? I’m so tempted to buy more than one whenever I browse around on Amazon, but then I realize I’d spend $60 or more in one fell swoop and have to remind myself to calm down.

Still haven’t ordered the art of MU but I might do that today, I’m not sure. Technically I don’t get paid until Monday and I’m not sure if I can wait that long!

Scarricature, for some reason I remember hearing the art of MI was harder to get a hold of… is that true? Was it more expensive as compared to other art books (which average at about $25)?

little chef

I’m not sure. Last time I checked there was a seller on Amazon that currently had them and they were the average price, about $20-$27 new. (Edit: Amazon’s price is $27.73 but the seller Bizeebordaz is selling them for $20.79 & SuperBookDeals is $24.75)

& I had to stop myself too xD I always remember that on Amazon you pay shipping for each item you buy since its from multiple sellers so that always stops me from buying more than one at once.

All I have is the 25th anniversary edition (just so you know, I had the back of the front cover signed by Michael Comet).

My Monsters Inc artbook came today!!! I love it! The only thing is that is bothering my OCD is that there is a small tear in the dust cover  but thats what I get for buying it used I guess. I’ll cope… The Wall-E dust cover wasn’t in perfect condition either. In fact one of the pages has a tear. Next time I’ll treat myself with a brand new one. Except that I bought Tangled new and the dust cover is getting worn, probably from looking at it constantly, so idk may be worth saving the money for a used one if it’ll get messed up anyways… New or used… that … is the question! dramatic

I ordered the Art of MU finally, it should be coming within the next few days. I’m super excited!

Scarry, I personally don’t mind buying used books as long as they are in good condition and don’t look too beat up. Wear to the dust cover is the least of my worries, because it’s what’s inside that matters, right?? heheh. I’d rather it get worn and torn from my loving and continued use than to buy it already that way from someone else, you know what I mean?

I believe the Art of MU that I ordered is a new book, since I bought it right off of Amazon. When I got the Art of Ratatouille however I bought a used copy, and the only imperfection was it had a little bit of marker on the bottom of the book but I think that’s something they do at bookstores for overstock or something, I’m not sure. A few of the used books that I’ve bought had that as well.

I discovered the existence of Art Of books last year, and I honestly don’t know how I never heard of them until then, and how I never got any until recently! I currently have Finding Nemo (my very first I got for my birthday last year), Wreck-It Ralph, and literally only a couple weeks ago, Monsters Inc. I also have The Toy Story Films: An Animated Journey (since there’s no Art Of TS and TS2, this is great for both tons of info and artwork!) I loooooooove them so mushhh X3 You learn so much from them and the art that Disney and Pixar deliver is always ahhhhmayzinggg! I hope to get all the other Pixar ones and the ones for my fave Disney films. Maybe some for DWA (HTTYD and Rise Of The Guardians) and Blue Sky (Robots and Epic, and any others I can find) if I like them enough. My next goal: The Art Of MU!

I do have one Pixar “The Art of” book, and that’s for WALL•E. Another art book I own is the one for Avatar: The Last Airbender.

oh man so the Art of MU came in yesterday and I’m so in love. ;__; It’s probably right next to Ratatouille in terms of my favorite art book so far. I mean WALL-E’s is really good too (all of them are in their own unique ways) but man this book is amazing. ;o; It’s gonna take me a while to digest all this amazing art. That’s what I love so much about the “art of” books… you can read them over and over and still find something new and different every single time.

little chef

Oh man… you are really tempting me!!! I still want to get the Wreck it Ralph one first, but the you’re making the MU one sound so awesome… hmm… I just got paid from both my jobs today too so… urg… bills gah… maybe one this time and another the next. But which??? D:

I really enjoy both but I think I got a lot more from the art of MU!! That could be because everything is MU to me right now but no I’d personally recommend getting that one first! Obviously it’s your call ultimately because Wreck-It Ralph has some seriously stunning things in it as well, but I think one of the things I enjoyed the most in the art of MU were the things written about it. It’s just so inspiring.

Man oh man, am I jealous!

I would LOVE to own any of the Art Of Pixar movies books. The only one I’ve read is The Art of Cars 2, because last time I checked it was the only one that my library had. :stuck_out_tongue: I’d especially like to get my hands on a copy of The Art of Up.

I own all of them.
