That’s awesome, Modeltrainman! It’s great to hear from you!
Since recently I’ve been spending more time on perfecting my art style I’ve found myself searching for Pixar concept art a lot more, just to look at it and admire it. It’s just so inspiring. So inspiring!
I’d love to get some more art books from 'em, but if only they weren’t so pricey! And if only they were widely distributed around my area. Sigh.
I did go to Pixar: 25 Years of Animation in Amsterdam Expo recently, and it was amazing. They had a lot of concept art on display and even some clay models!
I’ve learned so much that day from just being there.
I only actually have Art of Up and TS3 so far, but my dream is to someday have them all no matter what. They’re just so inspiring! Especially because the earlier books like Nemo have so many amazing pastels.
I have the Art of Finding Nemo and the Art of Cars and I really like both of them. They each have beautiful artwork and it gives me insight into their creative process, which is always something I appreciate.
Oh, guys, I got The Art Of MU for my birthday, and I spent like two or three hours reading it for the first time today! I’m so obsessed with it right now I don’t know where to begin! But man, I don’t think anyone could read this and not appreciate MU and Pixar even more! X3
I have The art of Toy Story 3, Up and Cars 2 i’m planning to buy more! I’ve been to the Amsterdam Expo as well and saw The Art of Pixar i want that one first! The Expo was amazing!
^ That’s really neat you went too! And yeah, the Expo was awesome, I thought so as well.
Anyway, I went to Amsterdam yesterday and bought The Art of Monsters University. Beautiful artwork, as I expected. This book will definitely inspire me as much as all my other art books.
I really should consider getting The Art of Monsters University.
For those of you who have “The Art of” Books, do you have a favorite? I really want to get one, but I can’t decide which one to get.
K9Girl: Doesn’t your profile say that your favorite Pixar film is up? And if you look at my profile, my favorite is WALL-E. Those are just 2 of my suggestions. But in fact, I like every Pixar film. Oh, and perhaps you’d find some of them in the Book Bin section of the online Disney store. However, I’ve also looked them up on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. (Fact is, I am always searching online for Pixar stuff because, the problem is, all I ever see within the stores around here is Cars and Toy Story these days. And the biggest reason for my constantly searching online for Pixar stuff in terms of all the films is because the warehouses are like a major source of leftover merchandise within the overstock–that is, plenty of leftovers from what was once in the stores, but in fact, are no longer found in stores. I even look the stuff up on eBay, for there are far more stuff there that I can find than what can be found on Craigslist.) By the way, if you really don’t want to look online, and you have a Barnes and Noble nearby, perhaps you’d go there 'cause I’d be suggesting The Art of Monsters University? (I mentioned that in my last post above yours. I thought it was a really great movie, and another one of Pixar’s finest achievements.)
Well, K9Girl, my recommendations are:
A. Starting off with one of the first in a film series, such as Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Cars, and now Finding Nemo.
B. Starting off with one of your top faves, like evspixarfan suggested.
C. Getting the most recent book (The Art of Monsters University)
D. Or getting a little bit of everything with The Art of Pixar 25th Anniversary
Or what I did was ask for a random Art book for my birthday, and I ended up with Finding Nemo as my first There’s no real science; whether it’s your first or you have them all (like the great modeltrainman ), they’re great!
I love The Art of Up most. Not just because it was my first one! It’s just got a lot of detailed background information on the movie and the characters, and they explain a lot of things and tricks they use, such as their so-called ‘simplexity’ technique and ‘chunkifying’ designs, and all the symbolism that’s hidden in every design (a lot, believe me.) Lots of things from the movie in its earlier states as well, and the story. Basically, lots of text and explaining accompanying the perfect artwork in so many different styles, even some of the photo references they used for comparison, and I love everything about it.
I just recently finished reading it and it was really excellent. I’d recommend it, good text and incredibly vivid art!
I still don’t have any of the art books for ‘earlier’ Pixar films, but I really want to, especially Finding Nemo for Ralph Eggleston’s pastel work.
Good news! The online Disney Store has recently added a Book Bin section–and the “Art of” books are there, too! (Yes, they cost $40 each–but I do want to study up on color scripts. )
Whoa, all of them?? Thanks for the tidbit, I’ll have to go and see!
Yes…I did notice individual Art of books for Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Brave, and Monsters University. Plus, there are 2 sets of Art of postcards. The first volume goes from Toy Story to Cars (1986-2006), while the second volume goes from Ratatouille to Brave (2007-2012), and they both also include concept art from the short films as well.
I’m seriously unsure what to ask for my birthday, so I think I might just go with a nice new Art Of-book… preferably one by Pixar.
Either Brave or Toy Story 3 or something, I dunno.
Are you sure you don’t already have the one I usually refer to as:
25th anniversary edition color scripts book (The Art of Pixar?)
Maybe you should get one for what your favorite movie is–if you have it on your profile.
That’s my suggestion, right there.
Thanks, but I’d rather have one of a specific movie. Dunno why, but I like that a bit better. And as for my favourite movie, Up - I already have that one, hehe
What about one of my favorite movie (as seen on my profile)?
Do you have that one?
Which ones do you not have?
Oh, and your profile says Monsters Inc.
