Anyone else think Sponebob is not as good as it used to be?

ever since the movie, the episodes haven’t been as good as the first 3 seasons. I read that the creacter left and the show got new writers. heres what i have seen that has changed.

Spongebobs voice is higher
Spongebob is more of a rectangle
Patrick got dummer
Squidward has more bad luck
Spongebob and Patrick cry more.
Both act more like children.(I think there adults)
Spongebob likes his job to much
Spongebob and Patrick act sorta like there in love with each other.

I still like the show but it has very gone down hill. But i don’t want it to get cancelled.

Indeed, there are times were you sit and kinda go… “eh?” I mean don’t get me wrong I still love the show and all, but yeah it’s gotten quite, akward lately.

But if there’s a few things thats a little wrong is that, things seems to repeat themselves.

Well let’s take this for instance, they keep making too many dang episodes of Plankton trying to steal the formula, and in the end you know, he never gets it. It’s like they’ve thought of every single way not to get the secret formla right? I understand that the villan never wins but geez D: Why so many times?

Another thing that’s been repeated far too many times is what you said, about Squidward getting hurt all the time, but he gets hurt almost every episode now! That or shown off by Spongebob, in one way or another.

I don’t see how most of that is different from the old shows, but yeah, the writing’s gone downhill. xD;

I think Spongebob’s reign of popularity is really coming to an end now. Whenever I see it on Nick I just get the feeling that they’re milking the cash cow dry while letting the show suffer a slow and painful death, and I don’t think having a ton of reruns excuses the poor writing of newer episodes either. Phineas and Ferb seems to be the new Spongebob now.

I’m amazed Spongebob has gone on for so long. Its popularity amazes me!

It’s sucked since after the movie came out. Even the show’s creator Stephen Hillenburg has supposedly said that the show was supposed to end after the 1st movie, but I guess that the execs at Nick wanted to milk it for all it’s worth.

The show just keep getting worse and worse, i dont laugh with sponge bob as i used to

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I hate that show, is so stupid, the humor is stupid and the plot is a non funny irreal joke

Really, cause I thought it was one of the best cartoons I’ve seen in a very long time (and one of the best ones for Disney too for that matter). thewisecookiesheet would probably be disappointed to hear that since I know she likes Phineas and Ferb.

the show has the potential to be great, but it has no…eh backstory? i mean, the guys know how to build things just because the writer sais so?and the humor is stupid sometimes, the only good thing here is perry

I loved seasons 1-3 and yah, think it def went down the tube after the movie. I just can’t seem to laugh at any thing on the show any more, yes SponeBob’s voice has gotten way more annoying than before >>

It does seem like Spongebob may finally be losing his popularity, I may not watch the show on a regular basis but my four year old brother does, I have watched a few episodes with him…it seems like they are simply repeats of what has been done before in older episodes…

I highly beg to differ.

The same criticism can be said for Spongebob also. All I see is two juveniles, one shaped like a domestic cleaning tool, the other, well, a weird spin-off of a starfish, running amok in an underwater city. I don’t see any backstory in a sponge manically laughing, nor with any other characters - a crab that seems to be obsessed with money (possible metaphor for Viacom in relation to Spongebob?) or a plankton-shaped villain trying to steal this one recipe (somwhat similar to Pokemon, where Team Rocket is supposedly “evil”, but all they do is just stalk this one kid for his Pikachu).

Whereas in Phineas & Ferb, it’s not meant to be slapstick - it’s filled with comedic irony, how all of Phineas & Ferb’s inventions “disappear” towards the end, and how their inventions get in the way of the villain, Dr. Doofensmirtz. It’s not meant to be “ha-ha” funny, and you’re completely missing the point. The show is as good as it is because of the repetitive irony and situations that the characters are faced with. And, by the way, that’s a good thing.

I find Phineas & Ferb highly entertaining, and I find it the return of good, wholesome cartoon shows. The humour is not “stupid”, actually, au contraire - if there was any more “stupid” humour, it would be Spongebob, because there isn’t any smart, ironic humour in it. It’s just a sponge being “stupid”. That is to say, I am not saying that Spongebob is not a good show, it was one of the best shows back before Viacom has gotten greedy and made the show a milk cow, making it “udderly” ridiculous (excuse the pun).

Spongebob used to be great, but if anyone knows how to milk the cow, it’s Viacom. Although, you can’t just end Spongebob, no doubt it would cause an upset, so I don’t expect it to go away any time soon. Although, re-runs of old episodes would be nice.

I think my favorite episode would have to be Band Geeks from one of the early seasons, and I haven’t seen it on tv within the past 2-3 years.

But yeah, the only things that I think get me about the new stuff is that Spongebob and Patrick act more like 4-year-olds and Spongebob’s voice is crazy high. x.x

I think Phileas put it very well. And yes, "because the writer says so?" Well, yeah. Isn't everything like that?

In all it's greatness and glory, it's not a show for everyone. I personally like the comic irony from Phineas and Ferb (and not to mention the catchy songs!).

I think one has to enjoy it's complicated simplicity to enjoy it. And I think that if there was any gray zone, you're the first person I know. I know people who really love it, or absolutely despise it.

I love the fact that there is no sense to spongebob, I find the randomness very entertaining. I think the earlier episodes were better, a few that spring to mind are the band geeks episode, the one where they sell choclate bars, the fry cook games one and the krusty krab training video.

I’ve never seen the Phineas and Ferb show that keeps getting mentioned. I only have freeview now so no more nickleodeon for me :frowning:

Its not on Nick, its on Disney. Whenever you get your cable back or rent DVD’s, I suggest it highly. Even if the story has repeativeness, its humor is what catches my eye the most and its songs. Even at times the storylines can be different.

I think the old episodes used to be the best. Some of the new episodes get a couple of chuckles from me here and there, but I agree with everyone else that it’s been going downhill. And Spongebob and Patrick are getting a little too happy with each other, it’s disturbing sometimes.

I know that no one likes to read long entries but bear with me…

Spongebob was the BEST in its prime. (Pre-movie era) the humor was genius, yes silly but nontheless. However, After the movie (when it was NOT supposed to continue) the episodes went from bad to worse. As stated earlier, SB’s voice got so much higher and the humor was absent. I saw this coming because the movie was terrible.

After the first season after the movie, aside from being humor-less it just got to the point where it just was effortlessly put together and realeased on TV. It was a disgrace to the Real Spongebob.

THen after that, I noticed they started to repeat their old Ideas. (I’d name some examples if I didnt have a headache X( Spongebob ALSO got dumber which canceled the funny dumbness on Patricks part. I also noticed somewhat adult overtones as well (Which I’ve noticed in kids cartoons recently Chowder esp.)
I’m just saying Spongebob had its time and needs to just stop before it completely kills itself, even then it may be too late.

You can tell I’ve felt like this for a while

My thoughts exactly.

When did it move to disney?

St_Jons: Spongebob is Nick; Phineas and Ferb is Disney. Nobody switched. (:
