I saw the trailer, and I’m going to be honest here - yes, I’m looking forward to this, the emotional opening of Andy growing up is well done, and I was laughing at the whole back-and-forth banter between Rex, Buzz and the others about whether it was time to get hysterical - but I’m missing the usual sense of discovery that comes in the lead-up to the next Pixar film. First there’s a teaser that tells you, “OK, there’s a rat who loves food,” or “There’s a man who flies his house with balloons, hm, that sounds cute/interesting.” Then there’s the build up to the longer and longer trailers, until you start finding out about the main characters, and the bigger plot, and anticipating which characters will be your favorites, and sometimes being surprised… The first two Toy Storys are brilliant, and I expect to enjoy #3, and I know we’re getting some new supporting characters (I am looking forward to [spoil]Mr Pricklepants[/spoil]), but already being familiar with the main characters and their relationships has made the build up to this a little less exciting for me.
I know what you mean, karly05…I think there’ll still be a build up of excitement for Toy Story 3, but it’ll be different to the usual path of discovery that we experience for other original Pixar films, especially for someone as myself who tends not to know anything about a new Pixar film until I watch it, which means the first viewing is always a surprise. Of course there will be an element of this with Toy Story 3, but not to such an extent.
Well, I think the film is going to be really phenomenal and surprising honestly (not that you guys don’t feel the same way) after seeing the trailer. The first half of the trailer is what got me excited. Since falling into my now-deep fandom, I’ve really come to love the more serious themes in Pixar’s movies, so I think the whole deal with Andy is really gonna make the film much better. Not that the second half is bad, it’s hysterical!
I’m actually really surprised to see that kind of thing in an American trailer (just look at Up’s U.S. publicity, it didn’t even touch the serious side of the movie), it’s almost along the lines of what was in the Up Japanese trailer, which is GORGEOUS. It’s different in that it’s chock full of spoilers, but I think this new TS3 trailer has a perfect balance between entertainment, and emotion (except I think they lay the humor half on a bit thick, but that’s just me). The shock factor of seeing Andy grown up and his re-rendered younger self also contributes to my anticipation, hehe.
That.
Was.
the most amazing thing I have seen. In months.
I… I can’t even talk sense right now. I’ll have to write something that’s actually readable at a later date… omgdjfjasd I can’t wait for this movie more than ever. flails and dies
little chef
Guessing someone has already spotted this, but I noticed the batteries in Buzz’s back are by BnL (Buy N Large) xD
After my gruelling assignments, I treated myself to the viewing of the Toy Story 3 trailer. Overall, it’s cryptic enough not to give too much of the adventure away, but just enough to entice you. Actually, except for the bittersweet opening montage of Andy, the rest of the trailer didn’t exactly blow me away. Yes, I’m sure most of you are aware by now Pixar sucks at making trailers, but all the better since we go in with low-moderate expectations (well, unless you’re a massive Toy Story fan, in which case the trailer wouldn’t change your anticipation level anyway ), and come out duly impressed. Plus, like ffdude mentioned, it’s better to know less than to be totally ‘spoiled’ Japanese-trailer style. I expect Pixar to ‘wow’ me again. I loved the bit at the end where [spoil]Buzz got reset.[/spoil]
I really hope they release a second ‘meatier’ trailer like they did with Up and Wall-E… I expect they would also probably release a couple more featurettes as usual closer to the release so we can get a better sense of the plot.
I wonder what happens after [spoil]they get out of the daycare centre, if they ever manage to escape at all…[/spoil] I’m also looking forward to possible cameos by ‘bad guys’ Sid and Al, though I doubt that would be revisited here. And what happened to Buster?
If I’m not mistaken, the longer scene shown at D23 [spoil] included Woody attempting to ride an old Buster to rescue the other toys from a garbage truck, so he’s in there. [/spoil]
I’ve seen the trailer occasionally now for about a month and the more i see it the more i get that Incredibles feeling…when the Incredibles first came out on trailer i was so stoked…mostly because the original due date was Nov. 3 but that is beside the point…the point is i love the new trailer…[spoil]i think that the scenes they were showing us are making the film very interesting…i like how buzz changes back to his original self only ion Mexican…Jesse seems even more in love with him due to his language change…strange…i love how Woody comes back…i love how the speech for the toys is still the same as well…i give the trailer a 4.5/5…rather tough because it is a 3rd but the storyline has much potential…and i mean POTENTIAL…not instant sucess but absolute 90% potential.[/spoil]
Surprised this hasn’t been posted yet, but an international trailer thingy for TS3 has been out for about a week. It has 2 or 3 new shots from the movie that aren’t in the regular trailer.
WOW, I didn’t even know about the international trailer until Bryko614 posted it. Thanks so much!!
I absolutely cannot wait for this. I am very excited!
Oh my God Of Christ.
Bryko614… I love you. XD Thank you so much for finding this!
awesome. I like that their taking things slow with showing us new footage, so far we’re only seeing new shots, but mostly the same old lines. So we get a taste of something new, but I can watch without feeling like Im being more spoiled. I want to be kept in the dark as much as possible. (I have no will power to do it on my own)
Bryko614, thanks for finding this! It’s interesting how different the international trailer is compared to the American trailer. In the American trailer, it shows Andy playing with his toys in the past, but in this international trailer the toys’ past adventures are shown at the beginning. The few new shots are cool as well, especially the one you’re currently using as your signature.
I think It’s sad how Andy says " No ones gonna want these old toys"
I actually took that as Andy’s cover in a way for not donating them. Like trying to play it cool but he has enough of a sentimental attachment to them that he’s trying to make an excuse not to donate them.
Ah, so that’s where you got your new signature. Great find!
Here are my thoughts on the trailer:
[spoil] I love how older Andy looks, but the first time I saw the trailer it was kind of a shock seeing the improved designs for young Andy and his mom after being used to how they looked in Toy Story 2. I even thought the scene of Andy having his height measured made him look too much like Linguini from Ratatouille.
Slinky Dog was always the most major concern for me with Pixar making Toy Story 3 ever since Jim Varney died, but that one line I heard in the trailer from Blake Clark (“We ain’t ever getting played with!”) convinced me that it was all going to work out fine.
Bo Peep’s absence in the trailer is still a little worrisome, but Lee Unkrich did confirm on his Twitter account that she would be in the film so I’m just gonna take his word for it. I’m thinking the reason we haven’t seen too many of the minor characters could be because Andy and his mom had already gotten rid of some older toys as time passed by (but Andy still kept around the ones he was most attached to, which would be Woody and Buzz). It probably also explains why Mrs. Potato Head is missing her eye since some of the parts to your old toys tend to get missing the longer you have them.
If anyone recalls the original rumored storyline for Toy Story 3 that Disney had put together (which was Buzz malfunctioning and being shipped to Taiwan) I think the Spanish Buzz gag in the film may have been based somewhat on that. [/spoil]
And I haven’t seen any new characters yet like Mr. Pricklepants or Lotso the bear (who was seen in Up) but I did see that there will be a couple dinosaur toys in the day care that they go to. You think Rex may finally have some new dino friends?
Anyway, I am really looking forward to this! I just hope they continue to have a good balance between the emotional themes and the comedy, but then again this is Pixar I’m talking about.
As I am really really really excited to see this film (it’s been way overdue for me), I am a bit reluctant to see how it turns out. To me, this seems like the darkest of all the TS films. With Andy’s packing off for college and the toys somehow placed in this Toddler Hell of a daycare, it can’t possibly go well. Sure, they’ll try to “bust out of here”, but even if they do, where will they go? They’re homeless? I can’t imagine how this movie can possibly end happily for me.
However, I also thought I would hate WALL•E and PIXAR proved me wrong.
I’m super excited for this. I thought it was a interesting choice making Andy go to college. Think about it: say you were 5 when Toy Story first came out (1995), you’d be about 19 now. College age.
I dunno, found it interesting.
yep, that’s exactly how I am in a nutshell. It is interesting as Andy ages with us but the toys are cursed with immortality.
