Anyone up for MI2?

Seeing what has become of Randall, Yeti, and Big Foot (King Itchy?), I would

assume death actually came with the package. You don’t think whoever banished them would think about them

eventually getting caught by humans, and then getting killed?

I’m not 25 (yet) but I AM a minority, and yes, if had been given a FAIR

choice, I would have stuck with jail (though I am aware that jail isn’t one’s choice–that’s for the court to

decide). Kidnappers, murderers and the like? How’s that compared to a life of running and hiding from a species

that are considered even more dangerous than the convict sleeping on my top bunk? Jail is never a good situation.

That’s always a given. But think about Yeti and Big Foot. Think they would have preferred a life behind bars in

controlled environment versus spending a life banished from your own species in an

alien world and going insane like King Itchy?

I didn’t say she would forget him. I said that she would change as

she grew older.

I’m with you on this one, DoubleLatte.

As bad as jail is, at LEAST it is a protected environment, even for minorities(who actually make the MAJORITY in

the prison system, unfortunately). Inmates do get fed, do have a roof over their head with protection from the

elements and do have access to medical care, education, etc. I’d much prefer jail in my own world to being

thrown into a hostile, strange environment where most of the residents want to kill and EAT me!

pitbulllady

Then let me pose your question with another. What is

the need for banishment if it is supposedly death in it’s own right?

Heh heh tuche.
Through our Yeti

friend seems to enjoy his life.
Supposedly Yeti, AS, doesn’t seem to be the convict type. He seems rather

small minded to be one to commit a crime.

Yes I know. Through HOW she would change is unknown with the

experiences she had had.
For instance, she might have to be put into a metal clinic because she kept ranting

to her parents about the existance of the world behind the closet door.

Well heh…as for Jail. Before

even considering it, one would have to see a trial. And even if that’s something that will happen.

While we see that the Abobinable Snowman is a big marshmellow NOW, you

have to realize that if he’s not totally gone fishing, toys in the attic, a cup and saucer short of a full place

setting…INSANE, then he’s pretty darn close to it! I mean, do you actually KNOW what those “lemon”

snowcones were MADE of? MIKE obviously did! You cannot look at the actions of someone like that and try to

fathom what they might have been like or what they might have done before banishment. The whole point of showing

him, besides a laugh and a nod to the Frank Zappa fans(who know exactly where those yellow snowcones came from),

was to show that banished monsters gradually go off the proverbial deep end, IF they survive at all.

As

for Boo, I seriously doubt that her parents would have her locked up in a mental institution for telling them

about “Kitty” and “Mike Wakowski”(or however she pronounces it). Two words: IMAGINARY

FRIENDS. More than 75% of all children under the age of nine have at least one, and parents of a creative and

intelligent child like little Mary Gibbs should EXPECT it! Now, if things start to get out of hand, and their

daughter seems a bit obsessed with her uhm, companions, they might seek the advice of a child psychiatrist, but

unless a person is deemed a very serious threat to society or themselves, you cannot have them committed, and

that is doubly so for a child! Anyone who does not believe it’s very, very difficult to have a child committed

to a mental institution needs to visit my classroom! That is not to say that something cannot happen to alter

Mary’s outlook on life, and either make her bitter or make her forget her friends from the other side of the

closet, or make her more sympathetic towards Randall, if they ever meet again, but I don’t think that Pixar

would ever go for something as dark as a child being put away in a mental institution by her own parents, even if

it WERE easy to do so!

pitbulllady

Well preferrably it’s for debate…

Yes yes. But some parents DO take the wrong opinon of these things,

especially as their children get older.

I seem to be getting over yards here…

Concerning the fact that banished monsters, if they manage to survive, eventually loose their marbles anyway-

the sad thing is, is that Randall would have already been very, very close to the edge anyway. Banishment may

have just tipped him over.

Heh. Randall can be very stubborn to not fall into a

crazed fashion. However, a suggestive effect may be that Ran develops a split personality. One holding onto his

moral values, the other holding onto his bottled hate and frustration.
To keep it easy. Split in two, one

being the exhausted Randall we see when he comes out from scaring a child, and the ruthless one we see chasing

Sullivan and Wazowski.

You know what, I’m starting

to feel sorry for Randall more and more, which is saying something…

Here is how I see the whole

situation:

Had Randall been put on trial for his unforgettable actions, he may have had three options

considering his doomed future:

1)

Banishment
2) Imprisonment
3) The Death

Sentence

Now, believe you me, I do not, under any circumstances, believe that

Randall would receive that death sentence even if it was an option – he wasn’t

that bad – heh.

I believe that banishment would have been the judge’s

first choice anyway, even if Randall had been able to wiggle his way out of punishment. To tell you the truth, I

think that Randall may well have been saved from a crueler fate by being thrown out of the monster world by

Sullivan and Mike. Yes, it was a relentless fate, but it could have been worse: he could have been

killed/murdered in some way (though, like I said before, I highly doubt that).

And yes, imprisonment,

when compared to banishment, isn’t so bad when you think about it. At least he’d get the full

service…heh…

Mitch: I’m not sure about the death sentence. It is too hash for a Pixar character. And too

harsh for kids as well.

I think that banishment IS the Monster World’s

equivalent of the death sentence, since it’s basically intended for a banished monster to either die physically

or mentally/emotionally, at some point soon after being banished. This is especially true given that monsters

believed that human children were toxic, so what would they have thought about human ADULTS?

If Randall

had gotten a fair trial(operative word here: FAIR), I’m not sure that things would have gone as bad as it would

seem. For one, Randall would not have been the trophy that the prosecution would have been really after; THAT

would have been Henry J. Waternoose. Randall was just a flunky, a Nobody, in terms of importance. DA’s make

their careers by putting away the really big hitters, by bringing down mob bosses and CEO’s of major

corporations, not by busting some guy no one has ever heard of, who makes minimum wage and is not(to them)worth

the money, time and effort to really go after. Besides, Randall would have been of far greater value to them as

a “hostile witness” against the defendant, and since there appeared to be no love lost whatsoever

between him and the former CEO, I doubt that Randall would hesitate to turn state’s witness against Waternoose

in exchange for a lighter or even suspended sentence. Also working in Randall’s favor would be what Lizardgirl

stated in an earlier post-due to the enormous stresses, physical, mental and emotional-that he’d been under,

Randall probably was not too far from “going over the edge” by the time of the movie. I doubt that any

psychiatrist who’d had the chance to examine him say, about two days before the whole mess went down would have

found him to be in a normal and healthy state of mind, that’s for sure! Sleep deprivation alone will make a

person temporarily insane, to the point that they are impossible to distinquish from a full-blown case of

schitzophrenia, hearing voices, the whole nine yards, and you can be sure that in the final months of work on the

Scream Extractor, a good night’s sleep was something that Randall had pretty much forgotten. He was basically

operating in “fight/flight” mode by that point, fueled on nothing but endorphins and caffeine. That

would have been one case in which the “Temporary Insanity Card” probably would have been a pretty

acurate one to play.

pitbulllady

I always DID think he was

similer to the Cheshire cat.

Banishment is not to be taken lightly ladies and gentlemen.
It is the harshest punishment for a

monster.

Think about it. How relentless of a punishment that it could very well be a risk to Monster

society. If a banished monster was to be caught, they would very well be experiment on rather than peaceful

relations.
Of course some very famous banished monsters either had made some peacful relationship with those

it lives around or are, more presumebly, just really evasive.

Banishment and Death Penalty are two

different punishments. The Death Penalty is a one-way execution.
Now Banishment. Not only will the person be

put through hell basically, they are not the only ones affected. Think of, if so, the families of the banished

monsters.
Imagine thinking everyday that your son, daughter, grandson, what have you…is out in an

unforgiveable world. A world, in which you a taught, is filled with toxins that would kill the person.
Did

they die quickly? Or slow and painfully? Or were they captured? Experimented on? Cut up into tiny portions so

that humanity can kill to study…
Imagine that…

Fair trials in a segregated world are hard to come

by. Seeing as the Monster World’s soceity is the equivilant of the Civil Rights movement of our world, we’re

likely to see a Mocking Bird trial here.

Heh. Reminds me of a South Park joke pitbulllady. "No point

in putting another poor black person in jail" no offense, I am not a racist.

Not neccesarily a nobody

Pitbulllady. Randall was once Top Scarer at one of Scare Co.'s most productive scream collection facilities.

That can affect the trial…
One question to ask…is how much influence Waternoose would have in court behind

the scenes…

pitbulllady - Wow – you sure can make a complicated, detailed, and accurate post.

I have no choice but to agree with you on the matters of which you spoke. Yes, Randall was probably on

the point of insanity. Yes, he may have wiggled his way out of an unfair sentence in court. And, if I may say so,

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him…

Should Pixar ever decide to

begin development on a second Monsters Inc. film, would we find that Randall had

caused quite a bit of chaos in the human world? Perhaps…but that is just random speculation. The thing is,

Randall already knows now that humans – at least, human children – are non-toxic

and rather harmless (unless armed with a baseball bat). Would he take advantage of this after being flung out of

his world and into ours? I cannot answer that honestly…

On the other hand, it would be quite simple

for Randall to just find another closet door and jump through there into the monster world. It’s not like he was

banished for good, because he – in a sense – wasn’t banished. Sulley and Mike

didn’t have the power to do that; they just kicked him out for the time being. And unless Randall got knocked

dead with that shovel (which is highly unlikely), then we’ll keep asking, “What’s next?”…

Pitbulllady has had allot of experiences. All

should value her wisdom heh.

Not seen the last of him? That’s relatively the same now.

I think it

would honestly leave Randall to question the situation Mitch. He had been taught, but I don’t neccesarily

believed HE thought, that humans were toxic.
Why teach that humans are toxic?
I honestly think Randall

would question those things.
However, above all, I know Randall would want to find out how the heck to get out

of the situation he is and SURVIVE.

That’s a good question Mitch.
And I SINCERLY THANK YOU in saying

Randall WAS NOT banished. He was, in terms, exhiled.
Randall recieved a rather harsh beating. Already with a

tired body, it would be similiar to beating an old man with ply hammer.

However, Ran would escape one way

or another.
Now…his bashing would leave him at a disadvantage to other banished monsters.
Not to mention

no one has any idea if the beating screwed up his ability to blend.

What’s next? Isn’t it simple?

That’s what a sequel is for…not to mention fanfics of course.

Finding one’s way from the Human World into the Monster World is not

as easy as it sounds. You have to have an open connection, or an open “wormhole” as it were.

Apparently, the monsters somehow possess technology which we don’t, and that is something which allows them to

open and close the portals between our two worlds at will. Therefore, while THEY can enter OUR world whenever

they chose, by simply “activating” a kid’s closet door from the Scare Floor, the technology to be able

to do that does not exist(not that WE know of, anyway)on this side of the closet door, otherwise any kid who

opened his/her closet in the Human World would instantly gain access to the Monster World. The only reason that

Mike, Sulley and Randall were able to move freely back and forth between the Monster World and the Human World

during that Door Vault sequence is because the power of Boo’s laughter and screams had simultaneously activated

every single door in the vault. Once that activation shut down, that connection was closed. For Randall to be

able to gain access back to his world via a child’s closet door, he’d either have to have impeccable timing and

just happen to be in that kid’s room when a Comic gained entry from the other side to make the kid laugh, or

he’d have to be able to get ahold of the exact same technology in the Human World that allows monsters to

manipulate the portals from their world, and both scenarios seem very unlikely. Randall can’t stay

“blended” forever, IF he is still able to do that at all, following what must have been some pretty

nasty blunt-force head trauma, so he’d pretty much have to be able to gain the trust of a child(AND that

child’s parents)in order to have any chance of being in place when the kid’s door was activated. Even so, he

would be taking a big chance that the kid in question even still had an “active” door, and had not had

the corresponsing door in the factory shredded(you have to remember that Randall would have no way of knowing

that the factory had switched from Scream to Laugh energy in his absence). It COULD, on the other hand, make for

a very interesting plot-line for a sequel to see a real bond gradually develope between this former fierce Scarer

and this kid and family whom he’d basically started out “using”, in order to get back home, and to

have Randall eventually have to question exactly where “home” was-the world into which he was born, or

a world in which he’d found someone who actually gives a rat’s behind(no offense, Mitch)about HIM, and, little

by little, vice versa.

pitbulllady

touch?.

Yeti “enjoying” his life?

Anyway, I’ve nothing left to say. Pitbulllady answered your questions (including Yeti’s “happy” life)

quite accurately and nicely. Now that’s uber touch?. :3

I

was not asking any questions, merely stating facts.
And in so stating facts, I was not caring at the moment

for grammical incorrections. No offense of intended of course…

In terms of the rift door technology,

it’s a very difficult process. Though it had been recently harnassed in the…1800’s if I recall…
I’m

no scientist and am not a specialist in the field, but the rift doors and the conversion of Scream into energy is

a scientific phenomena for humans…

I recall several fanfiction stories with Randall using a child to get

back.
Personally I think it may be easier for Randall if Scaring Files had information.
Remember that

specific kids are matched up to a specific employee to get maximum results. In such, research probably had to be

done. And it could be said locations are included in the files.
Seeing as Jerry mentions the scaring area at

the beginning of each session, Randall may be in luck if he finds a world map, finding out his location. And if

Monsters Inc. follows a “scare area schedule” and repeats, Randall would know that

schedule.

This is of course speculation given the fact that Randall isn’t seen a year later in the

film…at least…not SEEN…

Yeah, but Jerry mentions like an entire section

of a continent, the eastern seaboard of North America. Now, that includes everything from extreme northeastern

Canada down to the Florida Keys. Do you have any idea just how many children live in this area! Anybody want to

try to calculate Randall’s odds of finding an active closet door within an entire region of a continent? On top

of that, even if Randall IS able to recall specific children he was assigned to scare, and where they lived, and

in which part of the country, all that information would be useless now the factory has switched from Scream to

Laugh. Children most likely to be AFRAID of monsters would make the poorest candidates for the Comics; THEY

would have had to re-build the doors of the kids who were NOT afraid of monsters, since those most likely would

have provided the best laughter. It’s still unlikely, with survival being first and foremost on his mind, that

Randall would be able to recall any specific child’s address, AND find it. The Scare “schedule”

probably varied from shift to shift, as well, making it even more difficult. The odds of Randall simply being in

the right place at the right time, without literally moving in with a kid who was known to have a still-active

door and be getting visits from Comics from time-to-time, would be far greater than those of me winning

Powerball, that’s for certain!

pitbulllady

You said yourself that Randall didn’t know about the

switch heh.
The switch itself might actually have no effect. Seeing as how Sullivan is, the doors for Scarers

would still be used. If not by his order, then by Scare Co.

As said, speculation.

Randall DOESN’T know about the switch, but that

switch from Scream to Laugh HAS to have some impact on which kids are now being visited. Take that kid who tried

to touch “Claws”, for example, and caused the poor guy to break down in hysterics. That kid obviously

wasn’t afraid of monsters, but that doesn’t mean that she didn’t have a sense of humor. She was, after all,

only six at the time, and a sure-fire way to make a six-year-old laugh is for someone to belch, pass gas, fall on

their face, make somebody else fall on THEIR face…in other words, anything silly and slapstick. On the other

hand, a kid who would go into hissy fits at the mere mention of a monster is probably still not going to be a

good candidate for Laugh collection, so the kids who were the best Scream collection candidates, would make the

worse audience for the Comics.

Even if the factory DID still use Scream Energy, though, the chances of

Randall just happening to be in a kid’s room when that closet door opened would be infinitesimally small.

Physical addresses in this world would probably mean very little to him, other than to narrow down a particular

part of the country. State names, and city names, would not be the same as in the Monster World’s corresponding

part of the continent, even if the cultures and dialects were similar. Randall would have to find some means of

locating a particular address, IF he could even remember any, and I would wager than given the choice between

finding something to eat, and isn’t gonna eat HIM first, and locating a particular kid’s address-well, I know

which choice I would make in that situation! The only real chance he’d have would be to find some kid who

reveals that he/she is visited by a monster from the closet on some nights, and then befriend that kid AND the

rest of the family, and basically assimilate himself into their routine, while he waits for that closet door to

open. Given that Randall has probably not had a family in a long, long time, and does not understand family

dynamics, and has issues putting his own trust in others, that’s easier said than done. It would make for a

really great sequal plot to see him try, though, and who knows? Maybe he’ll learn enough in the meantime to

realize which things are really important to him-having a family who will stand by him and offer their

friendship, a family he can trust and vice versa, or making it back to a world which clearly didn’t care for

him, anyway, just so he can have some brief retribution.
