Autographs and Acclamations

Greetings everyone,

Have you ever been presented with the opportunity to obtain a signature from someone you admire? Maybe you’ve been fortunate enough to shake the hand of, or converse with, an individual in the entertainment industry. Or perhaps you’ve simply crossed the path of a famous celebrity in Hollywood, or unknowingly tread past a star in your hometown. Whatever may be the case, here’s a place to share your stories with others!

Being the daughter of two parents who are in the animation industry, and living in close proximity to Los Angeles and Hollywood, I’ve met a fair few people, be it by chance or expectedly. Below is a list detailing some of those whom I’ve met over the course of twenty years. All names with an asterisk (*) beside them refer to people whom I’ve received an autograph from, and those with a cross (†) next to them indicate entities whom are in the art industry.

  • Brad Bird†*
  • Andrew Stanton†
  • Jim Cummings†* (voice of Winnie the Pooh, Taz, and many others)
  • Andreas Deja†
  • Joe Haidar †*
  • Geoff Johns†* (comic book artist)
  • William Shatner*
  • Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca; Star Wars)
  • Anthony Daniels* (C-3PO; Star Wars)
  • Jake Lloyd* (young Anakin Skywalker; Star Wars, Episode I)
  • Orli Shoshan (Shaak Ti in Star Wars, Episodes II and III)
  • Dylan and Cole Sprouse (Zack and Cody)

I’m met tons of other artists in the industry, but I can’t remember their names. Either way, there’s a lot missing from the list. I’ve certainly seen some people that I haven’t met, including Pete Docter, John Lasseter, Peter Sohn, Ollie Johnston (I almost met him but decided not to because I didn’t want to bother him; of course, I’m hitting myself now), Billy Dee Williams, several other Star Wars actors and actresses, Ed Asner, and Chris Sanders. As far as autographs go, I also have Patton Oswalt’s autograph, but it was my dad who got it for me, so I didn’t actually get to meet the guy, unfortunately.

Generally, I prefer to simply shake the hand of a well-known person instead of get their autograph, although there are exceptions, such as the times I met those Star Wars actors. There’s only so many chances you have to meet those people. Others just gave me their autograph without me asking them to, like Brad Bird. (Andrew Stanton was funny. I asked him if my sister and I could simply shake his hand and he was all, “Oh!”, as if he was hardly ever asked that.)

Oh, and, for the record, Jim Cummings is the nicest dude on the planet…

What about you guys? Show off your bragging rights!

Todd Helton Autographed Calender…yah its weird but i love Colorado, Baseball and Todd Helton so to me its a keeper all the way…

Other then that…

Luis Gonzalez Autograph

Oh, my older brother has the entire 2001 World Series Champion D-backs autographs on cards in a beautiful plack…its really a collectors item.

You’ve met some pretty cool people, Mitch! Can’t believe you almost met Ollie Johnston! So cool! I want to move to CA when I am done with school and get closer to the industry… and have the chance to meet amazing artists. I feel a bit isolated in the mid west!

Going to an art school, I get the opportunity to attend lectures by a variety of artists, one of the more famous being Judy Chicago. I’ve only personally met one of the visiting artists and that was Keith Cormier, Lighting Technical Director from Pixar. Really cool guy.

Other than that, the only celebrity I’ve seen is Jim Caviezel (Jesus in The Passion of the Christ) at a screening of the film during World Youth Day 2005 in Germany. He is a wonderful speaker. I unfortunately only got to see him from a distance. Oh, and Clarence Gilyard Jr. was there with him as well. He played Trivette in the TV show Walker, Texas Ranger.

I do have quite a few autographs though from various celebrities that I have obtained through the mail, mainly from the Harry Potter films. Two of my most cherished ones are from Pete Docter and Brad Bird though. If anyone cares to see any of the autographs, I can give you the link to my site.

Umm, I’ve met Alan Moore twice. And I have two books signed by him, there is no way i’m ever giving those away to anybody.

He’s a comic book writer.

Tomorrow I’m going to get an autograph by Jeff Smith, the author of the Bone graphic novels at a book signing and a film about him.

I don’t really have any autographs of particularly famous people. The two autographs that I have that come to mind are from Jake Wood (an actor in a British soap, Americans might know him as the old voice of the GEICO gecko) and a comedian I saw live, Dara O’Briein.

Uh, that’s about it really. My mum’s got quite a few from her old favourite actor, Yul Brynner, so they’re pretty cool.

You’ve got a lot of autographs, Mitch! What do you do with them all?

Anothony Daniels? William Shatner? That’s stunning xD

All of you have a pretty sweet collection of autographs!

Hannahmation - Thanks! And you have Daniel Radcliffe’s signature? The Daniel Radcliffe?! Dude…

Oh, and I’d love to see your collection!

TAMATER - I’m insanely jealous. I’ve always wanted Jeff Smith’s autograph.

lizardgirl - Ohhh, so he was the guy who did the original voice of the gecko? I like him more than this new guy they have now.

Wow. Yul Brynner? That’s incredible.

You know, I’m surprised you don’t have Steve Buscemi’s John Hancock. You admire him as an actor, right?

Ha! Most of the autographs I have are scattered throughout several of my sketchbooks, some of which are in storage. Others I have are either in my room or… in storage. (I kind of panicked when I realized that the signature I got from Brad Bird was in storage. I still have to go back and get it…)

Luke - That’s what happens when you live right next to Hollywood. Heh.

I’ve got a WALL-E poster autographed by Jeremy Lasky, the director of photography.

Okay, I don’t mean to be rude… but I got seven autographs by Jeff Smith! :stuck_out_tongue: I even got a couple of pictures with him! The film I said I would go to, that’s about him was a four starer! And it was the world premere!  [/i][/b]

Edited. I added quote tags to the message of mine that you quoted. – Mitch

TAMATER- That made no sense. Plz explain :stuck_out_tongue:

TAMATER - Blast you! :stuck_out_tongue:

TS2 - Ha-ha. TAMATER was simply replying to one of my comments, except he didn’t use the quote tags in his message. I’ll fix that.

– Mitch

Well, the only person I can think of is John Cooper of the band Skillet. After a show I attended, I talked with him for about 10 or so minutes. Really nice guy!

And I almost got to meet Todd Palin, husband of Sarah Palin, but I didn’t know he’d be in town. What makes it worse was that he was appearing at a car dealer RIGHT down the road from me…And I blame it all on little_chef_eva for missing it. Thanks a lot. >=O

I do indeed! Authentic too! Wrote him a letter and sent a photo for him to sign when he was on Broadway.

My Autographs

JesusFreak - Wow. How cool!

Hannahmation - Oh my gosh. Ho-holy… smokes!! Gene Wilder!! J.K. Rowling!! John Williams!! Natalia Tena!! Son of a gun…

Thanks for the link!

(By the way, I love your “Supah Genius In-Training” title. Heheh.)

– Mitch

I’m male. That’s okay. Just no quote.

TAMATER - Oh, pfff. Dude, did I say that?! I’m terribly sorry. I meant to say he/she, since I didn’t know if you were a guy or a girl. I now stand corrected! Man, I’m so sorry about that. I’ll edit that quote. (heh)

– Mitch

Mitch:  I like to think the majority of them are real, besides the preprinted ones like Gene Wilder’s. JK Rowling’s was my biggest surprise so far. Didn’t think I’d ever get an authentic autograph from her!

Thanks! I like your ‘Wilderness Explorer’ title.

LOL

Edited. There is no need to quote the entire post. – Mitch[/b]

Hannahmation - It looks as if most of them are pretty darn authentic. You’ve got yourself a fine collection there.

You’re welcome, and thank you! My title isn’t as creative as yours, though.
